Man this battle of Mariupol is very interesting…(if it’s not completely controlled by Russia)

seem like some ukraines/Azov fighters are surrounded in the center.

they trying to hold off the port access

Russia shooting leaflets missiles, telling the uk soldiers how to give up… how to place their weapons when giving up etc…

We have gone from:
the ship is fine
the ship is slightly damaged from an accident
the ship is burning
the ship is gone but it wasn't the Ukrainians.

I find it hard to believe there are no survivors so maybe 120 out of 500 like they claim is right. Who knows.

Was that ship really THAT important..?

The Russian navy's Black Sea flagship has been "seriously damaged" by Neptune missiles.
Fixed

Though a video posted by a Russian soldier on Telegram claimed he'd died fighting in Mariupol, Cesar Quintana, the father of a kidnapped two-year-old, says that he is alive in California.

"It's pure propaganda," Quintana told The Washington Post of the video, which spread on pro-Russian disinformation channels.

The video, which showed pictures of his US passport with written coordinates meant to be the location of his body, was posted by a Russian Army member who claimed Quintana had joined forces with Ukrainians and been killed.

"These are for his relatives, so they will be able to bury him after the fighting ends," the man said in
Russian, The Washington Post reported. "We are people, and we must remain as such."

Russian Bombers Just Carpet-Bombed Mariupol

Tu-22Ms drop unguided bombs on Syria.
Russian defense ministry photo

Russian air force Tu-22M bombers flew into Ukrainian air space Thursday and dropped unguided bombs on Ukrainian troops in the besieged city of Mariupol, on the Sea of Azov coast.

It was the first time the 120-ton, swing-wing, supersonic bombers directly have raided Ukraine since Russia widened its war on the country starting the night of Feb. 23. Before the Mariupol mission, the Tu-22Ms attacked Ukraine without leaving Russian air space—by firing long-range cruise missiles.

The bombing run, which was recorded by a Russian drone and later confirmed by Ukrainian officials, could indicate that the Kremlin is running low on cruise missiles.

It requires a certain amount of recklessness, or desperation, to fly the big bombers within range of enemy air-defenses. Georgian troops famously shot down a Tu-22M, killing its four crew members, during the Russian invasion of the Republic of Georgia in 2008.

The drone footage of the Tu-22M raid clearly depicts a stick of gravity bombs exploding on the campus of the Azovstal steel plant on the eastern outskirts of Mariupol.

Around 160,000 civilians are trapped in the ruins of Mariupol. Thousands more have died. “The humanitarian situation in the city is worsening,” the U.K. Defense Ministry warned. “Most of the 160,000 remaining residents have no light, communication, medicine, heat or water.”

Azovstal is an important strong-point in the city’s defense. Troops from the far-right Azov Battalion, the Ukrainian marine corps and the local territorial defense force have holed up in and around Azovstal’s industrial maze. A number of marines a few days ago broke out of an isolated defensive pocket in Mariupol in order to link up with the Azov Battalion.

Surrounded and all but cut off from the rest of the Ukrainian military except for occasional, high-risk helicopter supply runs, the Azovstal defenders for more than six weeks have managed to hold offa much larger force of Russian, Chechen and separatist troops.

“Ukraine’s continued defense of Mariupol is currently tying down significant numbers of Russian troops and equipment,” the U.K. Defense Ministry stated.

As battered Russian formations retreated from northern Ukraine earlier this month, the Kremlin has redoubled its efforts in the east and south, including around Mariupol. “Russian air activity is expected to increase in the south and east of Ukraine in support of this activity,” the ministry explained.

It makes military sense for Russia to bombard Azovstal. But it’s somewhat surprising that the Kremlin was willing to fly Tu-22Ms directly over the plant. It’s not for no reason that every previous Russian bomber sortie carefully avoided going anywhere near Ukraine.

Fifty days into the wider war, Kyiv’s air-defense system still mostly is intact. Ukrainian air-defenders so far have shot down at least 71 Russian aircraft that analysts can confirm. They’d surely love to add one of Russia’s 60 or so Tu-22Ms to their tally of kills.

It’s possible the Russians are running out of cruise missiles and, in order to keep up the pressure on Mariupol’s defenders, have no choice but to drop bombs.

A Pentagon official on March 25 told reporters the Kremlin’s stockpile of long-range precision munitions was down by half. “Air-launched cruise missiles in particular are the thing that they're the lowest on,” the unnamed official said. “And then we think that's one of the reasons why we're seeing them use more and more dumb bombs, if you will.”

The Tu-22Ms in the recent raid got lucky and apparently returned to their base undamaged. It’s unclear what carnage they left behind. “Russia’s continued reliance on unguided bombs decreases their ability to discriminate when targeting and conducting strikes while greatly increasing the risk of further civilian casualties,” the U.K. Defense Ministry stated.

If the Russians really are running low on cruise missiles, expect more bombers to fly directly over the war zone and drop more dumb bombs. Also expect the Ukrainians to take aim at the giant warplanes.

Ukrainian governor says Mariupol ‘has been wiped off the face of the earth’

imrs.php

Pavlo Kyrylenko, governor of the Donetsk region, sits on a bed in a bomb shelter in Kramatorsk, Ukraine, on March 29. (Wojciech Grzedzinski for The Washington Post) Are you on Telegram? Subscribe to our channel for the latest updates on Russia's war in Ukraine.

War in Ukraine: What you need to know
The latest: The weeks-long resistance in besieged Mariupol appeared to be cracking as Russian forces moved closer to capturing the seaside port city in southeastern Ukraine, with a Russian-imposed deadline for Ukrainian forces in the city to surrender passing early Sunday local time. Meanwhile, officials in the capital Kyiv and the western city of Lviv reported explosions Saturday. Moscow has withdrawn its forces from those regions to focus on eastern Ukraine, but airstrikes have continued.
The fight: Russian forces continue to mount sporadic attacks on civilian targets in a number of Ukrainian cities. Ukrainian prosecutors have been taking detailed testimony from victims to investigate Russian war crimes.
The weapons: Ukraine is making use of weapons such as Javelin antitank missilesand Switchblade “kamikaze” drones, provided by the United States and other allies. Russia has used an array of weapons against Ukraine, some of which have drawn the attention and concern of analysts.
In Russia: Putin has locked down the flow of information within Russia, where the war isn’t even being called a war. The last independent newsletter in Russia suspended its operations.
Photos: Post photographers have been on the ground from the very beginning of the war — here’s some of their most powerful work.

Independent journalist speaking to Mariupol resident, said the Ukrainian soldiers didn’t let medical workers leave the area. Also mention Azov soldiers fired upon the hospital before DPR soldiers got there.
(Comments saying this Russia propaganda stuff, while one guy vouch for the journalist as to being a solid guy. It is what it is)

 these people really are against each other

Zelensky: Russia killing Ukrainian forces in Mariupol could ‘put an end to any format of negotiations’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskywarned in an interview with Ukrainian media on Saturday that negotiations could come to an end if Moscow kills the country’s remaining forces in the besieged city of Mariupol.
“The destruction of all our guys in Mariupol — what they are doing now — can put an end to any format of negotiations. I think it is their big mistake to say that they really want to end the war,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president also noted that his country would be less likely to negotiate with Russia if Moscow continued to commit war crimes against Ukrainian civilians and soldiers, according to the Presidential Office of Ukraine.
“The stronger we are, the better the outcome of these talks will be. The more Borodianka-like cases appear, there will be no chance that negotiations will be held actually,” Zelensky said in his interview, referring to a town near Kyiv that was occupied for weeks by Russian forces.
The Ukrainian president said last week that the destruction uncovered in Borodianka was “much more horrific” even than the Russian atrocities reported in nearby Bucha.
Zelensky also noted on Saturday that the status of Crimea and the Donbas region needed to be discussed between Ukraine and Russia, but he said it is difficult to address those issues when Russia is actively trying to take Ukrainian territory.
“I think we need to talk about it,” Zelensky said of the areas’ statuses. “And find a model that may not give an answer to what to do with it today, but it will definitely allow everyone to become sober. At least them. When the fighting is over and the war is over, we can think of diplomacy.”
“And they want to resolve issues diplomatically when there is a war. This is very difficult. And that’s why they want to take away some of our territory, to occupy more to put pressure,” he continued. “Then it’s not about diplomacy. And why do we meet? Why should I meet if they want to occupy the whole territory?”
The development comes as the Russian defense ministry claimed in a statementon Saturday that, beyond a Ukrainian group of fighters still left, “the entire urban area of Mariupol is completely cleared.”
Pavlo Kyrylenko, governor of the Donetsk region, painted a grim picture of the situation in Mariupol in an interview with CNN on Friday, saying that the besieged port city “has been wiped off the face of the earth by the Russian Federation.”
