I hate to see classics remade just to make a buck. Remaking Coming to America is as blasphemous as redoing the original A Raisin In the Sun.
Phylicia Rashad in the Claudia McNeil role and Sean "Puffy" Combs in the part played by Sidney Poitier??? C'mon... :smh:

Damn near every anti-African sterotype was presented in their full glory. Once i saw McDowell's out in the middle of a pasture, i was done. Silly Dictators. Silly clothing. Silly hypersexualized customs. Silly 24/7 pomp and circumstance.

How they came with this AFTER Black Panther is beyond me.

While I find the plot complaints silly (first one's plot wasn't some great believable thing either), there is one question I have to ask...does the palace have guards? Wesley and his team walked up in that joint so many times I thought Nextdooria had already conquered them
Its a comedy bruh. Little stuff like that is not important. Thats why I laughed when someone said the CGI effects where wack. Im like what level of effects are you looking for in a comedy? Should Eddie have gotten the same team that does Marvel special effects to do the elephant? :hmm:

Got the kids in bed and poured up some pappy/had a few edibles with the wife expecting some Tyler Perry shit based on the reviews on here. :smh:

Shit is not the Godfather but neither was the original. Only cac in the film was Louis Anderson and he was in the original. Some of you motherfuckers are just haters man. It is ok for some shit not to be Kafkaesque. I damn near didn't watch the shit based on the reviews on here...:smh::lol:

Colin Jost from SNL is also in it. He interviews Akeem's son.

Motherfuckers on here had me thinking this shit was going to be awful to the point I had to get drunk have a few edibles with the wife beforehand. Cameos and focus on Black people with no cacs was enough for me to give it a favorable rating for what it is. Had this been some hood shit with Luenell and Michael Blackson motherfuckers would be calling this a classic...

You know both Lunelle and Michael Blackson are in it, right? How high did you get while watching it? o_O:giggle:

But I agree with your overall point. This movie isn't as bad as some in here are acting. Saw someone say it's Eddies worst movie which is one of the most ridiculous things to ever be typed. He must've only seen 3 or 4 Eddie flicks lol.

The biggest thing I noticed after giving it some thought was that they Disneyfied this movie. The score, the cameras, the feel, everything was reminiscent of a Disney musical, rather than just a proper comedy. Had they done without it and kept it regular, this might’ve faired better.

That being said, I think they should’ve let the original stand alone. This sequel wasn’t needed.

They better not try this with Trading Places.

You're a miserable ass mothafucka so of course.

You accidentally posted that on BGOL rather than saying it into a mirror.

I read the thread after I posted and four chuckles plus a laugh was one of the kinder reviews!

You would like this movie-- You're the McFlurbie of BGOL posters.

You know what...

I almost feel like this would have worked better as a “Queens” maybe focus on Soul Glo , Fastfood Business and the barbershop in this new world.

They could have looked at how Soul Glo ... lost it’s way with black businesses and needed their help to get back in touch with their roots..

If Eriq Laselle would have agreed to be the lead this could have lead to him needed to go to Africa to meet with Akeem with the hope of him willing to invest in the New Soul Glo.

Do the Cobra Kai treatment with this and focus on the downfall and redemption of his character.

That would have been cool and shit and very interesting... basically make Akeem and Semmi side characters

It was good nostalgia wise, but not sure if it was a good movie. The first half was a lot better than the second half. I laughed during the first half.

I felt Tracy Morgan and Leslie Jones could have been used better. It had too many people in the cast.

Wesley was the star

Shame on cats that liked this garbage and are defending it.
My apologies for offending your sensitivities but I found it entertaining and sometimes hilarious. I enjoyed the salutes to some of our icons both living and deceased. That jab that McDowell's took at McDonald's... :roflmao: dead. (Ice cream machine that actually works). Sexual chocolate..them my ninjas right there. Snipes with the throwback dance moves... On the whole it was more than I " EXPECTED " and I will watch it again. And once again, my apologies for offending you...... uppity bitch say whut?

C’mon guys! Really. Okay, let’s have Eddie not employ black folks and try not to make something out of 30 year old movie. Let’s just go home suck our own dicks! You’ve got to be kidding me with all this RogerEbert shit y’all talkin. The movie cost $$$. To bring this type of film to fruition is major. Why not have an appreciation for the effort. The story was not garbage. Stand up for somebody who’s been in the game for quite some time and just be happy that we have black entertainment before somebody gentrifies your existence.
These niggas suck at talking movies. Matter of fact, dont discuss movies on forums. For some reason, nobody online likes the movie, but everybody offline likes it. These niggas swear they smarter than everybody.

Nah it definitely wasn’t Master P level and wasn’t a horrible movie. But I’ll tell you what my problem with the movie was.

I wasn’t expecting Coming to America 1 level of greatness, I wasn’t even expecting a great movie. I actually wasn’t expecting anything because I purposefully didn’t watch the long trailer. But I did hear what the story was gonna be.

First, I didn’t like Leslie’s character. She was basically her being her and as always it’s too much.

I didn’t like the son, he came off as corny and trying too hard and also just predictable.

Tracy was predictable and just him being him, that’s great if you find him funny. But he was just extra too.

Honestly they just came off as boring and bland stereotypes and that made it cringeworthy.

I’m not a movie critic and don’t wanna be one, I just want to watch a movie and enjoy it. But when a couple of the main characters make you upset or cringe every time they’re on the screen, it makes the experience bad.

Just my two cents...

Not a bad or horrible movie, it’s just the characters that ruined it for me.

Agree with this. The son, Leslie/Tracy were the weakest in the film.

 I was, in a very inarticulate drunk/high way, saying that people would be praising any film that had them but were criticizing this one despite them being in it.

This movie is called coming to America but the scene was mostly filmed in an African setting. If they wrote a movie about coming to America it would have been funny and good. This was superlatively awful.

Wesley was a fool :roflmao:
Wesley was one of the few highlights IMO. Leslie and Hustleman added nothing to the story IMO. All the good shit in the movie was really just the classic shit thats turned into quotable scenes. Barbershop, nasty preacher, and Randy Watson.

Yep. It is worth watching again for the Nasty Preacher, Barber shop scenes, and Wesley.
