Legends of Tomorrow: Season 6 Character Could Set Up Green Lantern
Could Legends of Tomorrow season 6 be preparing to bring the Green Lanterns into the Arrowverse, with a new Legend destined to join the Corps?
BY MATT MORRISON3 HOURS AGO
Will Legends of Tomorrow formally introduce the Green Lantern Corps into the Arrowverse? While it might seem unlikely with a HBO Max Green Lantern series in the works and the finale of Arrow having teased John Diggle's destiny in the stars, there is some evidence that the time-traveling Legends may be the first to officially encounter the Green Lanterns in season 6 of their series.
Legends of Tomorrow season 5 ended on a cliffhanger, with team leader Sara Lance being abducted by aliens as the team left a London punk bar, circa 1977. Not much has been said about the central plot of Legends of Tomorrow season 6, beyond the fact that it will depict Sara's misadventures in space, as well as the efforts of the rest of the team to find her and bring her home. Unsurprisingly, the writers are planning to parody various classic science-fiction movies as part of the new season, but are also expected to draw upon the cosmic side of the DC Comics universe.

With the Legends heading into deep space chasing after their kidnapped captain, it seems only natural that they might run into the Green Lantern Corps; the most famous intergalactic peace-keeping organization in the DC Universe. Yet the only new character confirmed as part of the cast for Legends of Tomorrow season 6 is an original character named Esperanza "Spooner" Cruz. Despite this, there is reason to believe that Spooner might be an adaptation of another DC Comics character who became a Green Lantern, given some stunning similarities.

Who Is Esperanza "Spooner" Cruz?

Lisseth Chavez, who is best known for her portrayal of Vanessa Rojas on Chicago P.D. has been confirmed as a new addition to the Waverider crew in Legends of Tomorrow season 6. Chavez will be playing Esperanza "Spooner" Cruz, an expert on aliens and alien abductions. What sets Spooner apart from other conspiracy theorists, however, is that she has a special gift (or at least believes she does): the ability to telepathically identify aliens and communicate with them.
The description of the character from the original casting notice goes into further detail, describing Spooner as "tough and self-sufficient." She is the sort of person who believes in being prepared for anything, to the point that most people consider her paranoid. She also lives off the grid, despite being a talented mechanist and inventor, who has created some truly innovative technology for the purpose of detecting aliens and defending against them. This would seem to make Spooner a natural replacement for the Legends' team techie position, which has gone vacant since the departure of Ray Palmer.

RELATED:What To Expect From Legends Of Tomorrow Season 6
Some aspects of Spooner's character seem to have been lifted from the character of Jessica Cruz, a character formally introduced into the reality of DC Comics during Geoff Johns' run on the Justice League comic book. Apart from the shared surname, Jessica was similarly paranoid and driven to over-preparedness because of her fear of the unknown. Jessica's fears, however, had a wildly different catalyst than Spooner's abduction by aliens as a child.
Jessica Cruz: Comic Origins & Green Lantern Explanation

It is said that some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them. Jessica Cruz was one of the third category, being a reluctant villain who became an equally reluctant hero. Her name was first mentioned in a flash-forward in Green Lantern Vol. 5 #20 in July 2014, which teased the great destiny that lay ahead of her, before she first appeared in an active role one month later as the villainous Power Ring in Justice League Vol. 2 #31.

Originally, Jessica had been a cheerful young woman who lived an active lifestyle, loving hunting, fishing and camping with her friends. That changed after an unfortunate chance encounter during one camping trip, when she and her friends stumbled across two men burying a body deep in the woods. Jessica was the only one of her friends who survived what followed. Afterward, Jessica became a full-blown doomsday prepper, hoarding food and water in her apartment, too scared to hold down a job or even go to the grocery store.
This paranoia made Jessica Cruz an ideal host for the Ring of Volthoom: a cursed artifact containing a being which fed upon the fears of the ring's bearer, even as it forced them into dangerous and terrifying situations until their hearts finally gave out or the ring devoured them from the inside. Born of the twisted world of Earth-3 where all that was good was evil and vice-versa, the Ring of Volthoom was a sick parody of the rings of the Green Lantern Corps, which drew power from the will of their wielder to inspire them to greater things. The Ring of Volthoom had come to Prime Earth on the hand of the previous wielder: a villain called Power Ring, who was the Hal Jordan of Earth-3 and was as fearful and cowardly as his Prime Earth counterpart was fearless and noble.

RELATED:Doom Patrol's Diane Guerrero Wants To Play Jessica Cruz's Green Lantern
After being adopted by the Ring of Volthoom as a new host, Jessica Cruz was discovered by the Justice League, who tried to help her win free of the ring's corrupting power. Batman and Cyborg were eventually able to neutralize Volthoom's ability to influence Jessica, with The Flash and Green Lantern Hal Jordan helping her to control the ring's power on its own. Jessica would go on to sacrifice herself in an effort to save The Flash's life and free herself from Voltoom's curse, throwing herself between The Flash and the New God of Death, the Black Racer. To the surprise of everyone, the Black Racer wound up claiming Volthoom's soul instead of Barry Allen's or Jessica Cruz's, destroying the Ring of Volthoom once and for all. This act of bravery was enough to attract the attention of a Green Lantern ring seeking a new host, deciding that Jessica Cruz's ability to "overcome great fear" made her a worthy inductee into the Green Lantern Corps.

How Legends Of Tomorrow Could Introduce Green Lantern Corps

With a background built around fear and survivalist skills, Spooner Cruz seems suspiciously similar to Jessica Cruz. This wouldn't be the first time that Legends of Tomorrow took some liberties in adapting a DC Comics heroine for television. Zari Tomaz, who was introduced in Legends of Tomorrow season 3, was created as a more realistic version of Adriana Tomaz; a heroine from the comics who drew upon the power of the magical Amulet of Isis. It's also possible that Jessica Cruz might be brought into the show as a relative of Spooner Cruz, if the show isn't building toward Spooner becoming a Green Lantern on her own.

Even if this theory falls flat and Spooner isn't being set up to become a Green Lantern, it would be easy enough to introduce the Green Lantern Corps into Legends of Tomorrow season 6's storyline. The Legends have a long history of running afoul of authority figures and Green Lanterns could fill a role similar to that of the Time Bureau in seasons 3 and 4, playing the cops trying to maintain order as they clean up the messes left behind by the well-meaning but chaotic methods of the Legends. The only issue may be Warner Bros. allowing the Lanterns to be used outside of the upcoming HBO Max series, even in the name of cross-promotion.

Brandon Routh joins The Rookie as a 'polarizing' police officer

WHERE TO WATCH

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a veteran cop who's been described as polarizing...
Brandon Routh, former Superman and most recently The Atom on The CW's Legends of Tomorrow, has been cast in a four-episode arc on The Rookie. ABC confirmed that Routh will play Doug Stanton, an 11-year veteran of the LAPD, whose views prove to be polarizing at the Mid-Wilshire station.
Routh will first appear in the second episode of the third season, which kicks off in January. ABC notes there is also a possibility for additional episodes.
Season 3 finds Nathan Fillion's Officer Nolan facing his biggest challenges on the force yet. He's nearing the end of his training, but the end of season 2 found Nolan being framed by dirty cop Nick Armstrong (Harold Perrineau) for Armstrong's own crimes.

Creator Alexi Hawley previously told EW the season 3 premiere would pick up the right where the cliffhanger left off. "There's a lot of discussions about Nolan and not wanting him to be naive," Hawley said. "I do think that he's a realist. He's been through a lot. I just think that at the end of the day, he's a man who's chosen to see the world with the positive. That will be challenged here... this will shake him to his core, that somebody that he truly cared about betrayed him and what he thought they both believed in. But can he still come out of it feeling like people deserve the benefit of the doubt and all that kind of stuff? That's going to be his struggle in season 3. Just how do I retain my values and my worldview when they've been shaken to the core?"
The Rookie also faces the additional challenges of adapting in a changing media landscape, addressing the Black Lives Matter movement that exploded in the wake of the George Floyd murder in May of 2020. The show is poised to address these issues, as laid out in a panel "Scripted Police Series and Their Impact on Culture," which welcomed Hawley and Fillion, as well as other The Rookie producers and cast members alongside representatives from organizations Breaking Barriers United and Color of Change.

Though there aren't further details, it seems likely that Routh's new character could play a role in this aspect of storytelling, given his description as polarizing.
The Rookie returns Jan. 3 at 10 p.m on ABC.

what does nate need a new love interest?

He's a white male, it's required that he has a hot love interest! The writers know their base!

I gave up on the show when EVERYONE was getting action but Jackson. I tried to come back but hated that Vixen chose Nate over saving her people. I read she eventually went to save them but she hesitated, that's a red flag in my book.

Legends of Tomorrow cast picks the must-watch episodes for a quick binge

A Legends of Tomorrow binge-guide, courtesy of stars Caity Lotz, Jes Macallan, Olivia Swann, Adam Tsekhman, and co-showrunner Phil Klemmer.
By Chancellor Agard

Can you believe it's been almost a year since we last journeyed through the timeline with the lovable screw-ups of DC's Legends of Tomorrow? To celebrate the CW superhero dramedy's long-awaited return, EW is launching Six Days of Legends. For the rest of the week leading up to the season 6 premiere on May 2, we're debuting new content tied to the show — from an exclusive new trailer, to interviews with the cast and creators, and more. Now you may be asking yourself, "Why now? Is there some major milestone coming up this season?" Well, to that we say, "Why not?"

Getting into DC's Legends of Tomorrow can be rather daunting. For one, the timey-wimey Arrowverse spin-off already has five seasons under its belt with a sixth one premiering this Sunday, which is a lot of television to get through. More importantly, though, the show has evolved so much over the course of its run.

Starring Arrowverse alums like Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom), and Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heatwave), the show essentially began as a form of brand extension and followed this unlikely group of heroes, led by time-traveler Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), as they chased an immortal madman around the timeline. However, Legends abandoned that premise (and a few characters) after season 1 and quickly started transforming into the idiosyncratic, heartfelt, pop culture-devouring, and plushy beast that it is today. (Think Community meets Doctor Who.) Sure, Legends is still a show about screw-ups defending the timeline, but nowadays, they go about that in the weirdest and often most-absurd way possible. In other words, starting from the pilot may not necessarily be the best place to start if you want to fall in love with the show.

But don't worry, because the Legends are here to help you. In the video above, showrunner Phil Klemmer and stars Caity Lotz, Jes Macallan (who plays Ava Sharpe), Olivia Swann (Astra), and Adam Tsekhman (Gary) pick their must-watch episodes for a Legends of Tomorrow quick binge — and you can check out their picks below, too.

Credit: Robert Falconer/The CW

"Aruba-Con" (Season 3, Episode 1)
Lotz advises you skip the first two seasons and jump right to the the third season premiere, which finds the Legends disbanded and working civilian jobs because Rip replaced them with the bureaucratic and less chaotic Time Bureau. "It is a lot of fun, and it is the first time that Sara and Ava meet," says Lotz, hinting at Sara and Ava's eventual coupling.
Credit: Dean Buscher/The CW
"Beebo God of War" (Season 3, Episode 8)
Picking up after the Arrowverse's 2017 crossover "Crisis on Earth-X," "Beebo God of War" finds the team mourning the death of one of their own. But in classic Legends fashion, the situation is way more complicated and wackier than that. The Legends end up crossing paths with a younger version of their fallen friend after he accidentally time travels to 1000 AD and gets captured by vikings while trying to buy popular Tickle-Me Elmo-like toy named Beebo. Of course, the vikings are in awe of this advanced technology and start worshipping the animatronic toy as god — and thus Legends' adorable mascot was born.
"If you don't understand Beebo, then you don't understand Legends," says Macallan, with Lotz referring to Beebo as the "star of the show."

Credit: Jack Rowand/The CW
"The Curse of the Earth Totem" (Season 3, Episode 12)
"312, because Sara and Ava go on their first date, and there may or may not be a first kiss. And everyone loves a first kiss," says Lotz about this entry, which also features pirates!
Credit: Jack Rowand/The CW
"I, Ava" (Season 3, Episode 16)
"This is really fun episode where we travel to the future in Vancouver, British Columbia — where we shoot the show — and learn about Ava's past as a clone," says Tsekhman, "We meet lots of different Avas and we have a cool Ava-on-Ava-on-Ava-on-Ava-on-Ava fight scene, which is really wacky and really fun."
Credit: Jack Rowand/The CW
"The Good, The Bad and the Cuddly" (Season 3, Episode 18)
"Beebo returns. This time not as a cuddly plush toy, but as a massive, Godzilla-sized avatar of the Legends, who use these magical totems to create a love energy that manifests itself as this big, giant, furry Beebo guy who kills a demon," says Klemmer. "I'm sure that makes perfect sense. You feel like you've seen it already."
Credit: Dean Buscher/The CW
"The Virgin Gary" (Season 4, Episode 1)
"This episode, we travel to Woodstock in the '60s where we meet a unicorn, a hallucinogenic spewing unicorn from Hell who will eat your heart out," says Tsekhman.
Credit: Jack Rowand/The CW
"Legends of To-Meow-Meow" (Season 4, Episode 8)
Macallan, Tsekhman, and Klemmer all agree season 4's genre-hopping midseason finale is a must-watch. After Constantine (Matt Ryan) and Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) break the timeline and thus all of reality, each act of the episode explores what would've happen if Charlie never joined the Legends, leading to hilarious parodies of Charlie's Angels and The A-Team and the Legends as puppets.
Credit: Jeff Weddell/The CW
"Mortal Khanbat" (Season 5, Episode 5)
Directed by Lotz, "Mortal Khanbat" homages John Woo movies and pits the Legends against a resurrected Genghis Khan intent on conquering the world once again.
"We have Genghis Khan on a scooter in the '90s, bullet-time. There's Purgatory, there's Hell. It's action-packed, it's mad, it doesn't let up," says Swann.
Credit: Bettina Strauss/The CW
"Ship Broken" (Season 5, Episode 11)
"All of the Legends are trapped on a broken ship, there's a dog involved, people are dying," says Swann. "There's mystery, intrigue, whodunnit. They're on a ship in space. Again, madness and crazy."
Credit: Jack Rowand/The CW
"The One Where We're Trapped on TV" (Season 5, Episode 14))
After season 5's big bads rewrite history and create a dystopian Brazil-like world void of free will, the Legends find themselves trapped on various TV shows (parodies of Friends, Downton Abbey, and Star Trek). Come for the meta gags, but stay for the hour's very poignant climax. (EW named this one of the best episodes of 2020.)
"You've got three episodes of TV and one classic film all within one episode of television. Can you beat that? Of course, you can't beat that," says Tsekhman.
Credit: Dean Buscher/The CW

And if you loved those episodes, EW suggests you check out the following:
"Raiders of the Lost Art" (Season 2, Episode 9)
"Moonshot" (Season 2, Episode 14)
"Here I Go Again" (Season 3, Episode 11)
"Wet Hot American Bummer" (Season 4, Episode 4)
"Séance and Sensibility" (Season 4, Episode 11)
"Mr. Parker's Cul-de-Sac"/"Romeo v Juliet: Dawn of Justness" (Season 5, Episodes 6 and 7")
DC's Legends of Tomorrow returns Sunday at 8 p.m. on The CW.

I missed all of season 5. I stopped watching because a lot of people left. Besides Constantine, white canary and heatwave I don't know the rest of the team. Also they drug that Damian dark arc out too long that wpisode where he teamed up with reverse flash and vandal savage was dope though. I wish they didnt kill off captain cold and also they should've used him more in the flash.
