Offensive linemen are lining up to try to protect quarterback Shedeur Sanders in 2024.
The Buffaloes landed the nation's top ranked offensive tackle in the 2024 class this past Thursday, then Colorado added three new offensive line transfers on Saturday. Former UTEP offensive lineman Justin Mayers was the latest to make the announcement, joining former Houston offensive lineman Tyler Johnson and former UConn offensive lineman Yakiri Walker in making the call. The Buffs also picked up a new commitment from NC State receiver transfer Terrell Timmons Jr. on Saturday.
The 6-foot-3, 309-pound Mayers was a hot commodity once he hit the transfer portal this past week, drawing in 17 offers. Boston College, Louisville, Houston, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Texas, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Temple, Texas State, Texas Tech, UConn, USF, UTSA, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech also extended an offer to Mayers before he committed to Colorado on his official visit Saturday.
Mayers has played a total of 1,736 offensive snaps at the collegiate level, all at UTEP. He graded out at 77.9 as a starter in all 12 games at left guard this past season, per Pro Football Focus.
Originally from Frisco, Texas, Mayers will be a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.
