No, it means that people don’t know about setps and payoffs, not writing and characters on the nose, show don’t tell, the difference between internal and external motivations, etc have no idea what makes a good script. Just what they enjoy. Because they’re complaining about all the wrong things.

First off...I agree with your premise....you sayin what I been sayin. But....I disagree with the notion that people decided to stick around and see how it plays out. Most of the people that live in KL are poor as fuck....not like they can afford to just pick up and go. The civilians she killed were likely some of the most vulnerable people in the 7 kingdoms which is why what she did was so devastating. At the same time, any of them that survive that are exactly the kind of people who will tell the story for generations, so again, I agree with your premise.

Being poor doesn’t mean you cannot walk a few steps OUTSIDE of Kings Landing and go stand on a hill, (or sit on the beach somewhere) for a few hours... and wait for all the mayhem to end.
That requires ZERO money.

Personally, I think If Stannis had taken King’s Landing during the Battle or Blackwater.... a lot of innocent ‘poor folks’ would have died a very violent death also... simply because they did not leave the area. I still kinda take issue with that perspective. It aint like the people in Flea Bottom got Varys in they ear giving them the low down. They dont really know whats what. Their lives dont change for the most part when the ruler changes. I mean...it did with Cersei cuz she blew up the neighborhood park.....and this is definitely some climate change shit for them.....but I wouldnt think they are informed enough to make decisions like that at a high level.
What exactly about that line is so out of place in GoT? Dany usually uses threats like this so what about it rubbed you the wrong way and can you point to better lines from Dany in previous seasons where the writing was better to you?

And writing theory tells you that everyone is two people instead of one.
You are who you see yourself as.
And you are who you actually are.
The two are almost never the same.
A character’s actions should always be an attempt to be the person that character sees herself as i.e. “breaker of chains”
But in the end the person will always find themselves doing things that reinforce the reality of who they actually are i.e. “burning of king’s landing”
That’s character depth and allows a more interesting arc.
So along the way you see the writers showing both Daenerys’s. The one she wants to/sees herself as - freeing slaves, stopping people from being raped, locking up drogon for the death of a child..
And the one she actually is - crucifying dozens, burning any that defy her, demanding the bending of the knee.
In the end she burned the city to keep her enemies at bay by fear of burning, not because she snapped, but because that’s who she always actually was and not the person she saw herself as and or wanted to be.
I took a writing class where we discussed this duality. And you see the writers carry this out throughout the series then people who have no clue about writing theory or why the writers made that decision say that’s “bad writing” because they didn’t agree or didn’t enjoy it.
This duality is summed up perfectly by Jules in pulp fiction;

I kinda think they do (or did) know what’s what. But I think lots of them have (or had) the same attitude as Cersei does.... toward Dany... because they consider her “a foreign invader who is coming to kill them & rape their women.” (Just like Cersie and their Noble Lords think.)

(Granted, these footsoldiers & servants probably don’t go into specific detail about any strategies they may overhear... but if they heard that Dany had 3 full-grown Dragons... now THAT small tidbit of info would surely get around. Soldiers would warn / talk to their families & people they love. Or they would discuss it off-duty amongst themselves in local taverns & others would overhear it... or they would tell the Whores in the local Whorehouse... or whoever.)
The Nobles knew those Dragons were real. Randall Tarly did. And so did the rest of those folks in that room... which means many ‘small folk’ in their respective towns also knew...
Even the Prostitutes working in the KL Whorehouse knew / heard about the Dragons being real... (and it don’t get much more “Flea Bottom” than Prostitution
)....The Grand Maesters all the way across the sea in the Citadel knew Dany’s dragons were real.... and they didn’t want to tell Sam about his family getting burned up by Dragonfire at the end of this clip...
At the very start of this clip... the common folks in the local Tavern are talking about Dany’s dragons being real...
Even ‘the little birds’ heard the whispers about Dragons being real.
They told Varys back in season 2, at the end of this clip...But at the end of the day.... you hit the nail right on the head.
People ‘hear it’... but they just refuse to ‘believe it’.... until their crib is on FIRE.
