I trained with "Firearms Training Associates" here in Southern California... The instructors are made up of ex-policemen and military personnel. They go from hand guns all the way through 1000+ yard rifleman skills. The best money I've ever spent in my life.

True that! I'm looking for that kind of training.

Me personally I have no formal training, just picking up knowledge through reading, videos, and guys around me with some form or another of formal training. Any decent range will have some form of training that you can take part in.
Yeah, my range offers private training, but they're expensive. I'll have to save up and invest before the second round of lockdowns. :ssshhh:

Do it, you won't regret it. I was the only Black person in the class. All of the rest were white men and one Filipino. I didn't give a fuck. I learned what they were teaching, and now it's a skill that I own.

I learned about rifle selection, breath control, recoil management, caliber, stance, distance, maintenance etc... When you take a course like that, you learn how they think. You sit there, and you shut your mouth and let them MoFos talk. Meanwhile, you're taking it all in.

These are the main ones I use.
Ammo is low everywhere so if you see something you want to get that shit right away or it will be gone just like that.

This site is a little high right now.

Sorry this is a off topic, but...
Got a call from the lady at my LSG, 3 of the 4 regular employees tested positive for COVID. They are mostly frequented by LEO's, 1st responders, and EMT's. She says shit in FL (specifically central FL) is about to get funky part 2.
Mofos just suspended bar operations, a few hours ago.

I'm in S.FL and still furloughed. At this point, I'm just trying to stay in when possible and hope they extend unemployment beyond July 31.

This is a top notch post right here. I'm definitely going to invest, especially considering I want an AR15 to go with my pistols. I can handle range targets, but I'm trying to learn actual defensive tactics. Times are getting real strange out here.

DITTO !!!!! But,.....The number 1 thing you have to train is your mind
Yeah, but if you've never done it, you'll never get it. Since I had a combat MOS during the Cold War, I had to qualify on American and Russian weapons. Not only did I have to qualify with them, I had to learn how to break them down and put them back together again in under 3 minutes. From the Ma deuce and M240 coaxial machine gun, to the AK-47 and the Makarov .380 pistol. That was one of the reasons why I bought a Makarov .380 when I got out. At the time, the M1911 was a piece of shit, IMO.

I have my AR but haven't fired it yet. I just reached out to the range I frequent to see if there are any rifle/carbine classes to partake in

True, how much did you spend? I'm on gunbroker.com, and I'm seeing an average of 1k.
I have a Smith & Wesson MP Sport 2 with Crimson Tactical red dot scope. I copped it for about $700 in my local store. I've already added a 3x magnifier scope and front Magpul MBUS sight. I bought a m-lok quad rail on gunbroker last night and will attach a vertical grip to it when it arrives.

I'll definitely be consulting you and the knowledgeable board members before I pull the trigger (haha) in the AR15 and any mods to it. I'm still learning, as I'm new to the market.

You're right ! I was refering to people new to gun ownership . A lot of fear in handling and discharging of firearms. controlling that fear and having a WILLINGNESS to shoot when you are in danger cannot be emphasized enough .
