What is your maintenance goal? What weight?

The point is to get down and then maintain by exercise and eating better.

For some getting down will take forever. This simplifies it, gets it down quick.

It's a small loan for 1 million dollars. From there you can do the rest on your own. But if you are busting your butt to make a million there are a lot of pitfalls keeping you from getting there so you are never able to do what you set out to do

White rice is not the devil like everyone thinks. Brown rice and white rice are essentially the same kinda problem.
Brown rice even has MORE calories. Same with whole wheat bread vs white bread.
Just eat what you like better.

It kills me when I see people eating brown rice thinking they are healthy. They aren't. Just skip rice completely and you are better off.

I gotta exercises more.

My thing is always should you exercise in the morning on an empty stomach or eat something first? And what?

I keep getting different answers
[/QUOT

it’s personal preference.
Me: I prefer an empty stomach. Core is essential for all movement especially exercise. Can’t utilize it efficiently feeling full. If you need something to get you going, an hr before you workout drink a protein shake. I’d suggest making your own because the store bought stuff has a lot of sugar and sugar alcohols. Something simple like an apple with peanut butter is good. Again, be wary of sugar. Peanut butter is notorious for being loaded with sugar. Get all natural or even better an organic kind. It don’t taste as good. Ima tell u that right now. But it’s way better for you. Almond butter is excellent as well. In a nutshell, a little bit of protein and a simple carb is enough to fuel you for a workout.

I just need to get to 200 and hopefully stay at or beneath that number as I get older.

I have sciatica, so my hope is my pain could be lessened by the reduced weight. I got as high as 265. The 233 I was at on New Years was still far too high.

While I got down to 216 yesterday, after surgery (colonoscopy) they gave me 3 fig newton's 2 OJs, 2 ginger ale (I asked for them) and it took my body out of Ketosis. I woke up this morning at 218 and that's all I ate.

So, back at it this morning with tea, shrimp, broccoli. Hopefully the crap I ate yesterday is out of my system so I can start losing again.

It's just that easy though. 1 day not even eating a full meal and 2 pounds come. When I get to 200 I'm gonna start a workout routine to keep me down

Ok. Good luck at getting to your 200lb target.
Once you do, I would kindly suggest you keep your calories at 2,000 per day.
Then slowly get into some cardio 30 mins every single day.
Not no 3 times a week bullshit. It is bullshit. 30 mins a day walk fast, jog, swim, bike, run ... whatever.

Then maybe lift 3-5 times a week. Lighter weights. No need to stress yourself.

With sciatica I know that might be hard but you got to try to move.

Good luck bro.

I think that 3 days a week thing or less is what I was doing earlier. Thanks for the reminder that that shit don't work

The key is definitely consistency. My mom’s gotten into the habit of walking alot. When she moved to the city she’s in now, she has always been walking distance from downtown / errands. She used to go to the YMCA frequently for free weights & core on the floor class. Still a part of her dragonboating team for 10+ years. When she walks it’s usually for a few miles, and with a small backpack to carry stuff.

I flat out told her in 2010 at 60yo that she looked her healthiest and could have passed for 50yo. Newly retired, more exercise and time for hobbies and social activities. When she broke her hip at 70yo in 2020, she fortunately took the rehab and PT seriously and has gotten back to her normal self. She also played in an over 40 women’s soccer league in the mid-90s. I am thankful that she’s kept up her movement over her lifetime ... the broken hip situation could have been much worse (sure glad it wasn’t for her).

I put the weight back on because I was lazy and didn't work out. Not necessarily because of the diet, but because I didn't correct my poor eating habits and what I learned later is to eat off of saucers not plates.
As @Helico-pterFunk said, it's about portion sizes. A saucer is closer to a correct portion size than a larger plate.

Most restaurants and fast food place give you much more than you should eat in one sitting.

Problem with that is, each time you eat more than you should, your stomach stretches to accommodate. Soon, the amount of food that would fill a saucer won't satiate you, now you are back to overeating.

You have to quasi-maintain smaller portion eating unless you are super working out hard. Most of us aren't, so all that food we eat goes right to the gut.

Once I get down this time I'm gonna keep on the weights and exercise

Part of the rebound in weight gain is the diet, regardless of how clean you may be eating, not so much being lazy…if your body isn’t getting enough fuel to perform basic bodily functions, it stores everything as fat. When you go into a caloric deficit, especially one as extreme as doing 800 calories a day, you have to reverse diet once you come out of the deficit, so that you slowly reintroduce your body to the caloric increase and it properly adapts to the increased calories…without a reverse, you’ll put the weight back on fast, and in the wrong way, due to metabolic damage/changes from being in an extreme calorie deficit. Extreme diets like this do work, but they’re not maintainable without damaging your metabolism…it can put your body in starvation mode and suppress your insulin and increase your glucose levels, which will stop weight loss, at the very least. Not knocking your hustle, I respect that you were able to get by on 800 a day, but be careful with that…that shit can be dangerous…

Caught up in a 211. I haven't progressed to eating two meals a day yet. I'm still eating small, and I should incorporate more vegetables in my diet.

The light weight training starts tomorrow for me.

Regarding servings / portion sizes ... I think what pisses me off the most is the UNREALISTIC expectation with "suggested servings". Especially as it pertains to stuff like snack foods, etc. When it says / recommends something like 3 - 4 chips, cookies, or crackers ... they know full well people are consuming way more than that. Especially with chips or crackers. Hell, an individual or personal size little bag of chips is easily polished off by a CHILD. Let alone a teenager or adult who can quickly eat the better part of a regular full-sized bag of chips.

And of course restaurant meals with their high sodium counts ... and customers wanting to get more bang for their buck (given the high costs nowadays too). When you dine out - you want to "feel full" - unless you're strict with your diet & have self-control.

Went out to dine with my dad and brother back in mid-December at a place called Anton's Pasta close to Vancouver. They're popular with everyone for their big portion sizes. Prices were still fair - hadn't been there in a few years. I deliberately didn't have lunch so I could save my appetite for later. Had some salad & a rotini pasta with pesto sauce & chicken. When she brought it out, I knew immediately I could only have a portion of it. I made a dent in the meal, but still had enough for 2 meals in leftovers. A teenaged me would have probably tried to devour the whole thing & then had serious bubbleguts that evening.

Took my aunt out for dinner (her birthday) this past week at a Japanese restaurant down the block from Anton's called Tentatsu. Good meal ... had been meaning to try it for awhile. Again - skipped lunch earlier that day to save my appetite. We tried a small assortment of stuff, and again I had leftovers to reheat the next day.

The best thing about cooking at home is that everyday folks know EXACTLY what they're consuming. Just have to be weary of sauces, condiments & other stuff they're adding to the meals. And hell ... smoothies are a great meal replacement. Especially when you can mix & match an assortment of ingredients ... fruits ... veggies ... whatever. See what the hell ingredients work better with others. When you should add more or less (water, etc) to water down or thicken something. And a great way to use up "clearance" items from the grocery or produce store. Nothing has to be magazine-fresh looking to use. It's all getting blasted in the blender anyway. Make up a big full blender of smoothie ... and you've got several additional drinks waiting for you in the fridge at a later point in time.

If you want to lose weight it is simple. You have to change your life style. If you ate fried chicken, ribs and Mac n cheese that was not flavored correctly, it would be disgusting. You would be like I hate eating that.

Take the same concept to healthy eating. Learn to properly season healthy foods and they will taste great. Most people go and grab some healthy food and eat it bland. That’s like eating fried chicken with no seasoning.

Eating healthy for me was easy when I took the time to season my food

Keep doing your meal portions like you’re doing, but at some point this week have a high calorie dirty meal…the refeed should help to kickstart your metabolism and get you back in weight loss mode; it’ll also replace some of the nutrients you’re missing from being in a calorie deficit…It may take 2 meals to do this. Once you get back into weight loss mode, refeed once every 10-14 days…it’ll keep your metabolism from stalling. Good luck, bruh…the discipline you’re practicing is rock solid!!!!

White rice and brown rice are not the same. Brown rice is a slow digesting carb, while white rice is a fast burning carb. Fast carbs cause your insulin levels to spike because of the rate that they’re digested, which also rapidly increases glycogen levels (blood sugar). Because insulin and blood sugar increase faster with white rice, the body has to secrete more insulin in order for the increased glycogen to be absorbed into the muscle and be used as energy, and not stored as fat. Increased blood sugar also results in an increase in A1c. Brown rice, being a slow burning carb, doesn’t generate the rapid insulin spike of white rice, therefore the body absorbs more of the resulting blood sugar over time, and as a result can reverse insulin resistance.
