JOKER (2019) Discussion Thread Starring Joaquin Phoenix (Update 9/12/19) Leaked Footage.. GOOD GAWD

I'm not gonna watch this shit in theaters, you got a link to what you read??
I read it on Reddit but here's the info on the wiki:
Arthur wanders through Gotham and encounters Lee outside his old apartment, but she rejects him for renouncing his Joker persona and admits that her pregnancy was another lie before she leaves. The police apprehend Arthur and return him to Arkham. The next day, a patient approaches Arthur and begins to tell him a joke before repeatedly stabbing Arthur in the stomach. As Arthur bleeds to death, the young patient carves a smile into his face while laughing

Apparently, the REAL Joker is some other mental patient in Arkham Asylum :hmm:

Joker was [retry much a scorcese film with joker in it.

yeah I definitely got "Taxi driver/The King of Comedy" vibes...

The director was heavily influenced by those two flicks. Wife and I saw that one in the theatre and enjoyed it.

Initially seeing that Lady Gaga was playing Harlequinn had me optimistic for this jawn but after hearing the reviews and the plot I'm probably gonna skip this

I'm confused how Warner Brothers allowed this. They should have just gotten a different director. He sabotaged this movie and franchise. They'll never ask me to do another.

Because they never could do it alone in the first place. Everyone forgot that they didn't have faith in the first one so they spread the costs among Bron and Village Roadshow, despite it being a relatively cheap film to make. Those companies likely had enough say to keep the original from becoming another train wreck, and while it brought in a billion dollars WB didn't like having to split it.
So, this was typical WB, with no guardrails, and still not understanding why most of their other DC films failed.

More and more they are becoming the modern RKO Pictures.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a more pointless movie.

Basically, none of this shit ever happen

It never happened? What you mean?

It is. Horrible.

I can't really comment yet.

I never finished the first one. But I will try to watch both of these this week.

But what I don't understand is why the "fans" keep saying they FORCED the director to make this movie? They forced him by giving him and Phoenix a blank check and huge pay day?

If he didn't WANT TO MAKE IT? He could have said no. He took the money WHY deliberately make a bad movie that could potentially hurt his career and reputation permanently?

I remember when the incels embraced this movie and the shootings were attached that Phillips AND Phoenix hated both hated what they had created because that wasn't their intention. So without seeing either movie I understand the theme was the deconstruction of the first movie and character.

And didn't the writer ALSO say from jump this wasn't the REAL Joker? Wasn't Bruce 6 years old or something in this version?

I can't defend a movie I haven't seen but based on the response STORY WISE? every thing seems to make sense based on everything we know in front and behind the camera.

Nobody goes out to make a flop.

But apparently Philips did thus same thing essentially with the Hangover sequels.

So isn't this HOLLYWOOD STUDIO EXECUTIVES fault at the end of the day?

I'm sure there were dozens of talented directors and writers and performers especially of color who could have knocked this out the park. Instead of begging 2 white multi millionaires to do a bad sequel they never wanted to do in the first place.

Worst part?

Another studio will give them a few millions more to do anything they want a year from now.

So who is the Joke really on?

Shiiiiiiiiiit, I almost died

Todd Phillips' antihero musical starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga is the first Hollywood comic book pic in history to receive the failing grade.
