Zazie is a recognizable face on a budget....

And given Jonathan Majors age they needed a Mary in that range......who else could Jeymes have gotten?

Tessa Thompson?....a little "too" famous (read $$$$)

Alisha Wainwright?....that chick ruined her career to be Justin Timberlakes side piece while filming a movie....so throwing her into an all black cast........

That chick from that one show........(too many to fucking name, but none as recognizable for the cheap like Zazie)

I wish Mary would have been more Brown Skin
*edit*
Mary was TDS!!

Damn they lightened Mary with Ms Badu

stagecoach-mary-fields.jpg

Damn....so that narrows the field...maybe have DeWanda as Mary instead of a brief cameo as the murdered wife......or Yaya Decosta.....?
Dudes mother should have played Mary

Tariq didn't make it up, terms been around since slavery. Also...so black women or black people don't sleep with their captives to advance? WAKE UP BOI
Huh? What captives do Black people have? Sounds like you're the one sleeping.

Again, during chattel slavery, women did not have a choice whether or not to give up pussy to their white kidnappers. So it's not like it would have been a bargaining tool.
The term "negro bed wench" was a Tariq creation. "Bed" and "wench" predated chattel slavery, of course.
Nbw? Not so. That term came into the popular vernacular of a segment of American-American culture in the last 6 or so years via Tariq. And neither you nor Tariq have presented any historical evidence to the contrary. Also I'm a man, not a boi, Blackman.

I agree with everything you said except nbw that term came into the popular conscious when Roots debuted back in the 70s

it woulod be one of the first more accurate depictions of how slavery in america went down that we would all see. tariq may have repopularized the term for his audience in recent years.

Now I expect movie shorts, packaged as a series, on each and every character.

They all deserve their own story.
Delroy really came across like that dude you REALLY don't want to fuck with.
As he does in every single one of his roles…?

It’s who he is.
Damn bro you sure right I forgot she was in there. Paperboy was too now that I remember it. Damn no wonder we can't get a Atlanta these muthafuckas work too much lol.

She was part of a ensemble here too. I actually forgot she was in Joker.
I found out in October that they are currently shooting Season 3.
Yep, the brownskinned sista that played his mother should had been cast for that role
I wanted Ruby from Lovecraft, but this suggestion is even better.
I recognized this about the sets as well

Sometimes as a cinephile I'll watch a movie just to look at the background

Something that happens very often and let's play Grand Theft Auto V, They'll have a shitload of buildings that you don't even have the access or ability to go into, but they'll have them there. And this movie they only seemed to build the set for the buildings that you had the ability to go in and I believe they should have built more, if only just to be fronts

So and that mind the set was a bit Bland. It could have been more. It didn't take away from the film as much as it could have added to the film.

Do you agree
I visited Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri as a kid.

Whenever we visited old Wester towns, they look like these sets.

The main drag looked like this…settlements.

Nobody really lived in town. They always commutes from cabins.
This is the routine now. Anything all Black- especially with principle Black heroes they automatically downgrade it and call it reverse racist, "woke culture", etc etc and rate it 1 out of 10. We need to start doing the same thing to those stupid ass James Bond and their other "white superman" movies.
This is a great idea. When do we start doing this as a collective?
no one else felt the movie credits should have at least thanked Melvin and Mario Van Peeples cuz there was ALOT of Posse in this flick

mgid:arc:content:bet.com:51fa5f38-48e0-11e7-a442-0e40cf2fc285

the loner gunman with a vendetta
the black town ownership scheme
black cowboy gangs running and gunning
mini musical interludes

Dont get me wrong THTF was good but Posse did it first :dunno:
Not really.

It was a concept unto itself on a continuum of there always being cowboys in our culture but not always having a pathway to support our art concerning it.
And no gay shit, finally
You must didn’t watch it all the way until the end?
Visually, casting and music were great to me. The story was weak. It's a good movie, but im not sure I'll care about it years from now.

For those who still have not seen it slight spoiler warning.

Some of the foreshadowing was kind of disappointing once it played out. They kind of hyped the fight between Bill and Jim. Based on the foreshadowing, we knew Jim was going to lose and potentially Cathay would avenge Jim. The actual events just feel flat. I don't even recall seeing Cathay skills before the final fight.

They mentioned Rufus wanting the money to buy the town. It would have been interesting to learn more of that backstory.

We also don't get to see much of either sides skill sets as far as gun fighting. Instead of having Mary go to the town (which made little sense to me) why not have her be taken in some sort of shot out between the two groups. It's not original but it would make more sense for Rufus to send his men to get the money back than Mary going to the town as a know associate of Nat. Clearly Nat could have went into the town to kill Rufus without Mary going first.

The clean up for robbing the bank seemed to easy. You're telling not one person would have asked to at least see one of the bodies. Regardless of Bass statement I can't see no one asking for at least one person's body as proof.

Finally I'm not sure about the twist ending. Why try to humanize the villain at the end.

Again, not a bad movie by any means but I would have liked to see the world and characters developed more. Maybe a prequel would help.
The prequel is on YouTube.
Bored here too. It was entertaining though. But it was every bit of predictable. Interesting gunfight but the gun handling inexperience showed. A whole lot of limp wrist shooting.
Concerning “limp wrist” shooting, what cinema is out there that would be an example of how the cast should have been wielding their firearms to make the movie more believable?

Yeah DeWanda might have been good....

She's coming off She's Gotta Have It being canceled abruptly by Netflix and then co-starring in Fatherhood with Kev Hart ..... on Netflix

So her stock is still on the rise.....

I hate 4K with a passion. Sucked the life out of this otherwise amazing film for me.

I get wanting to try something new but Samuels should’ve gone with 35mm film.
Even though I am a cinephile I was never taught the specifics of the genres of I enjoy watching. I do not understand film per se. I'm watching The Magnificent Seven right now and I can see the difference in the dirt and dustiness that the Harder They Fall is lacking

In comparison, it looks like The Harder They Fall was filmed on a perfect soundstage lacking the look of the Wild West The Magnificent Seven was able to capture

Is this what you mean?

If you watched the HBO series Watchman, she played Will Reeves' wife

I wouldn't say that was a DIRECT LGBTQ showing, but that was a long ass cheek kiss

But I am glad there were no efimate Black males in this movie

I don't think they were going for a gay character per say. Based of the real person's history, she pretended to be a man to join the military. Now they could have left her sexual preference open ended to appease certain groups, but the movie character does seem to mirror the real life person as far as dressing like a man.

They didn't do much with the character but it would be interesting to see a movie or series with her character especially for young girls. I never knew there was a black Mulan.

There were two significant pieces of foreshadowing in this movie and one of them included Cuffey

There was one where Cherokee Bill said, "I shoot people in the mouth who talk too much" - Cherokee Bill ended up shooting Jim beckwourth in the mouth

Cuffey told Jim beckwourth that she had seen faster draws. He asked where, and she said, "In the mirror" - she ended up quick drawing and killing Cherokee Bill

Also, word of mouth is growing. When the harder they fall was released on Netflix it started out at a 5.4 out of 10 on IMDb. It is currently rated 6.6, so the overwhelmingly good reviews are outweighing the negative reviews slowly but surely

I already alluded to what you stated about the foreshadowing for her character in an earlier post. In my opinion they still didn't do much with the character. To be fair, the same could be true with most of the characters. This probably could have been better as a mini series to give more details on the characters.

I could just be me and I don't believe I've seen anyone else saying it but I was impressed with RJ Cyler. I was also surprised by Deon Cole. I didn't even realize that was him until Double Toasted brought it to my attention.

It just makes me think about all the talent that doesn't get seen because the same actors and actresses are reused so often. Usually because they have a name or following. No disrespect but Will Smith, Kevin Hart, Denzel Washington and Dwayne Johnson are cool but typically they are injecting their personalities into the characters most if not all of the time. This isn't just a black thing but given that roles are more limited to black actors reusing the same talent hurts black actors more in my opinion.

I completely agree with you on the matter that they reuse the same Talent all the time

When Chadwick Boseman passed away there was no one of Merit capable of picking up a mantle and carrying it across the finish line because rarely do black actors get a chance to even shine a little bit so that we know that they are capable of something greater

It's like in the acting world black actors are 7th round draft picks or undrafted free agents that have to scrounge just to make the roster. They have no intention of ever putting us in the game so of course they don't know what we got and the talent we have

Are you saying no one of merit based of your statement black actors not getting an opportunity to shine or no one could do as good of a job? I'll be the ass, but I don't recall Chadwick Boseman being highly regarded until Black Panther and his unfortunate early death. He wasn't even considered of merit until we got to see what he could do on a large stage. He had leading roles before, but I don't recall him being a real name before Black Panther. It's similar to Jonathan Majors now. I've started to hear more about him since Loki and maybe Lovecraft Country, but im not sure I'd say Majors is a big name yet.

To me it's not that someone of merit can't be found for Black Panther. It's more so as you stated the talent is being overlooked and honestly it's a bad situation for the film series. I never went into the theard so I don't know the feeling on the board, but I felt they should have found someone to take over the role as Black Panther or just not have the movie. We've had two prof. Xaviers and three Peter Parkers with the last being seen as the best. Spartacus had the exact situation except on a smaller scale for a Stars TV series and the energy of how black people felt about seeing BP I'm a solo big production film. Unless Black Panthers role was pivotal to the current phase, Disney could have taken the time to find the right actor. At the same time they could claim they were showing respect by delaying the film.

Thx famo. Alot of people missed that shot of her at the end. Trudy is gonna go on a mf rampage.

I thought Trudy lived, without that bit at the end.....

But again Buck and Bill are gone. Beckwourth and Bill died. Bass Reeves recruited Cuffee to the Marshalls so they're out....

So what Trudy starts her own gang and hunts down Nat Love and Mary?

Eeehhh, maybe. I'd be glad to be proven wrong Jeymes does westerns well.
