Imdb score is down to 6.4.....

These hwhyte ppl are terrible.....

"Terrible music / soundtrack"
"Reggae music during a gunfight, a bad idea."

Not enough white people.......seriously a mfkr wrote that "westerns usually only have a few minorities as slaves, helpers or indentured servants.....

This film goes to the opposite extreme"

Just hating....this shit was great to me.....9 out of 10 maybe 10 out of 10 after I see it a 2nd time
They ignorant! They don't know shit about the real black cowboy. They only know what other cacs have shown them. :smh: IGN let a brotha review this movie and his review was points out how blacks have been portrayed.

no one else felt the movie credits should have at least thanked Melvin and Mario Van Peeples cuz there was ALOT of Posse in this flick

No dispute what Posse did and they were first but they are in two different spaces. in THTF, nobody white played any role of the hero, ran shit or cause the death of a black character. THTF regulated white people to being scared in the background and not being feared. I liked but not loved Posse because it lacked in way too many areas, where THTF got everything right from the actors, action, storytelling, music, direction, pacing, lighting, flow. Every character shined and we were rewarded with a great performance by all.

A Winning Wild West story

PRAISE: In Director Jeymes Samuel and Writer Boaz Yakin's story about an outlaw discovering his enemy is being released from prison, so he reunites his gang to seek revenge, their love for legendary black cowboys shines through. It's very stylish with a Quentin Tarantino like feel the stars of the film shine that include : Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield, RJ Cyler, Danielle Deadwyler, and Edi Gathegi.
As the salty lines from the script leapt from their mouths with a smoothness and intensity I found myself smiling as it is coupled with great presence and swagger. The action sequences are done well and are relentlessly intense. Some of the brutality may not be for the faint of heart.
There are great nods to some Hollywood icons that have sadly passed away. The atmosphere of the film is absolutely terrific from its opening to closing shots which made me recall several great westerns. This is definitely a fun, suspenseful and intense ride.

PROBLEMS: Some dwelling moments could have been shaved off the films over 2 hour running time. The script could have been a bit tighter

I hope the story continues and is linked more to how things played out for the people in the film in real life.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 9

"Lone gunman with a vendetta" is a tried and true trope of westerns. Can't give Posse credit for that at all.

That’s like expecting Marvel to thank Blankman and Meteor Man for paving the way lol.
Regina Kings film presence shitted all over Zazies presence. They just had her for eye candy.

Regina fine as hell too but yeah I’m sure that was a big part in why Zazie got casted. But I thought she did her thing. Regina character was written better IMO.

I think they needed a stronger actress for the role. One with better presence.

I think Danai Gurira would of been a better choice.

If Viola Davis was 10 yrs younger she would of been perfect for the role.

I guess I'm the only one here who
didn't give it a 9 or 10. It wasn't a
terrible movie, it just wasn't what
I expected i guess.
I expected more. :dunno:

Visually, casting and music were great to me. The story was weak. It's a good movie, but im not sure I'll care about it years from now.

For those who still have not seen it slight spoiler warning.

Some of the foreshadowing was kind of disappointing once it played out. They kind of hyped the fight between Bill and Jim. Based on the foreshadowing, we knew Jim was going to lose and potentially Cathay would avenge Jim. The actual events just feel flat. I don't even recall seeing Cathay skills before the final fight.

They mentioned Rufus wanting the money to buy the town. It would have been interesting to learn more of that backstory.

We also don't get to see much of either sides skill sets as far as gun fighting. Instead of having Mary go to the town (which made little sense to me) why not have her be taken in some sort of shot out between the two groups. It's not original but it would make more sense for Rufus to send his men to get the money back than Mary going to the town as a know associate of Nat. Clearly Nat could have went into the town to kill Rufus without Mary going first.

The clean up for robbing the bank seemed to easy. You're telling not one person would have asked to at least see one of the bodies. Regardless of Bass statement I can't see no one asking for at least one person's body as proof.

Finally I'm not sure about the twist ending. Why try to humanize the villain at the end.

Again, not a bad movie by any means but I would have liked to see the world and characters developed more. Maybe a prequel would help.

I think thats a might harsh homie considering you don't get THTF without the contributions of the Van Peeples to black cinema.
And no gay shit, finally
really?? you overlook Cuffee

we should not be worried about what white people think of our ow shit. we know they gonna hate so fuck em. Lets keep it 100% on this.
I'm supposed to care as if they don't recycle the same goddamn movie over and over again. Every rom-com, the main actress is a personal mess, clumsy, works at a marketing company, has a wacky fat friend, and falls for a bartender or corn husker.

Surprised so many liked it. Thought it was trash. The cinematography is like a music video smh could've been waaaaaay better. Regina King was wasted. Glad y'all liked it, I guess but it's a 6 outta 10 for me personally. I love old west shit too but this was damn neat unwatchable. Fucking Zazie was a horrible Stagecoach Mary and the singing bit in The club.... Nah son, not my style. Posse was light-years ahead of this

granted but if you ran both those movies side by side I get the feeling theres more similarities than not...especially stylistically and the black town ownership thing with both sheriffs selling out the black town a shoot out that essentially destroys the town and we just kinda over look that..

theres ALOT to criticize QT on..but use of the n-word isn't one of them particularly in a period piece.

Except Tarantino like dropping the word in all his movies. That's why Denzel chewed him out in front of the whole crew on Crimson Tide. Also if you take a look at that movie Inglorious Bastards, which was about Nazis, there's not one Jewish slur in that entire movie. Fuck Tarimtino.
