I think you're referring to the World Cup that was held in Qatar last year, that's w/ national teams, but there's also a competition called "The Club World Cup" held every year. Each Continental association(Europe, Africa, etc., all are represented) has a tournament to determine their champ. The champs of each continent then play in The Club World Cup, so there is actually a club that can boast that they're World Champs(currently Real Madrid.)
I agree w/ Noah. Until FIBA sets up a similar tournament, the NBA champion is just that, the champion of the NBA. That's all. Same w/ MLB.

The league is a national league that imports foriegn players to play for their NATIONAL TEAMS... the day the Los angeles lakers play the Shanghai Sharks in an IBA game (INTERNATIONAL Basketball Association) game ALong with other country's teams and they compete for the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS then we can talk....otherwise what he said was missed the point by a mile. Its wild that this is even a debate. A domestic league can't produce a world champion. Its a pretty simple concept. It doesnt matter if that domestic league champion is probably the best team in the world. Now Lyles didn't explain it in the best way, but it is pretty straightforward.

The NBA is composed of the best players in the world, making it the best league and best teams.
Those international teams wouldn't beat a NBA team. Those other teams are composed of old, washed up or players who weren't good enough for the NBA.
