Before the M'Baku fight he said no suit, no herb.

When he fought M'Baku they gave him the potion to depower him to make it an even fight then gave him the heart shaped herb after defeating him. So I'm pretty sure that he had been the Black Panther before the events of Civil War but wasn' crowned king yet to connect to the previous panthers.

Before the Killmonger fight they depowered him again.

I need to watch the flick again...I’m confusing the potion w/ the herb

1. In Captain America Civil War (CACW) how did T'Challa get the BP power and strength? In the Movie BP which takes place shortly afterwards, they show him becoming the king and receiving the power of the BP, via a special potion and some other ritualist moves, yet in CACW he was already the black panther without having to drink the special potion or go through the ritual. Did I miss something?

T'challa has the power of the black panther by birthright.

That is why to prove himself he has to drink the potion that TAKES AWAY HIS BLACK PANTHER abilities.

But... In order for him to assume his other role as king of the dead and regain his black panther abilities, he has to ingest the heart shaped herb.

I was the only one in the theater laughing @ that shit lmaooooooo

Me and the wife were dying at that. We were also the only ones laughing. Theater of mostly us but they were young. Jokes like this and colonizer went over their heads.

I found it brilliant as the cac's always portrayed us as savages and cannibals even though that was their history.

both were ehh...only “complaint” I have re: the movie
I thought the 2nd one with Bucky was cool....it made the Infinity War trailers make more sense cuz he goin hard right next to the Wakandan warriors. It seemed like there was something more than he just woke up and they was being invaded. Got me hyped all over again for Infinity War.

I'm not sure you're right here. Remember when he got his ass beat and the other guy was king?

When they were gonna fight again it was him who had to.dowm the potion to make it fair right? I have to watch it again

My thoughts on BP – Colin warning for all you ignorant ass no reading bastards!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Period point blank. My issues with the movies is this:

1. I believe that T'Challa was way Incredibly fierce, hard as hell and more focused in Captain America Civil War. I love how they introduce him and gave you a taste of what he was about which was straight up ass kicking!!! He held his own against everyone! And gave zero fucks about what the rest of the avengers had going on.

2. I loved how they showed an advanced Africa, its beautiful landscape, people and quality of life without any apologies!! We need more of that shit onscreen!!!

3. I loved how they showed black women as fierce, beautiful, smart and uncompromising. Did you notice, not a single woman needed to be rescued or was waiting for any of the men to define who they were!! That shit was nice as fuck to see. We need more of that shit also. The head general needs her own story. She was about her business.

With that said, this is what I didn't like about the movie Black Panther

2. In a straight up 1 on 1 fight without any special powers, he got his ass handed to him by Killmonger. So IMHO, BP wasn't really about that business without the special powers. He was strong but could & did easily get beat by someone simply stronger than him. Killmonger was fueled by pure hate, skills and wanted that #1 spot at any & all cost. Yet, despite T-challa kicking straight up ass in CACW, he got his ass kicked badly by killmonger. What’s up with that?

3. T-challa only beat Killmonger when they both had the BP power. Granted both their powers were in and out during the fight scene but somehow BP gets the best of Killmonger at the most opportune time, yet couldn't beat Killmonger without the power. Not going for that shit.

4. Killmonger died to quickly!!! For all that hate, rage, cunningness and desire, he went out way to quick. Remember he spent his whole life for his shot and lost it relatively quick. I'm not buying it. Like they gave Bucky a chance to live, I'm not buying Killmonger would rather be dead than to learn more about his people and perhaps live another day to try again to get that number one spot.
To answer ur first question he went back after his father was killed, got the powers and suit then because in BP at the ceremony they showed his powers get taken away FIRST, then restored afterwards, so u have to assume he already had the powers in the middle of civil war

Good point. But the Black Panther is the main "Protector of Wakanda"... And T'Chaka is already pretty old when CACW happens.
(He's definitely way too old to be STILL running around in a Panther Suit.... protecting his country. And fighting off Invaders & Colonizers.)

Safe to say, T'Chaka had already 'passed the mantle of the Black Panther' to T'Challa... awhile ago.

Especially if he didn't expect anyone to challenge him... since he assumed the biggest challenger to the throne (Killmonger) would never set foot in Wakanda, anytime soon. So, the 'official ceremony'.... was just a technicality.

Like a father who buys a new car for his son because he is graduating high school... but he gives it to him BEFORE he actually walks the aisle on Graduation Day.

Is this a 'plot hole'? :dunno: Maybe. Maybe not. It's debatable.
But if it is... it's just a small one,... that only requires a small amount of 'suspension of disbelief' to get past.

If you remember the Killmonger said he wanted to be BP AND King. So the two were separate roles. That means T'challa father was King and he was the BP.

Before he fought Man Ape, he took the potion which took away the powers. He drunk it again after to restore. Before he fought Killmonger he took it again, removing the power. Killmonger wins and then drinks the potion giving him the BP power. He never drinks again. BP is heeled with the last of the potion before their final fight, so now they both have the Spirit of BP in them.

Just to clarify there are two different potions at work here...the one removes the power of the princely heir black panther, so the challenge for the throne can be waged on equal footing.

The 2nd is the heart shaped herb, which restores the power back to the heir (now rightful king) or if the challenger has defeated the heir, the herb is the final test of the challenger of his worthiness.

If the challenger is worthy the heart shaped herb will endow him with the power of the black panther.

Just got back from seing it with the wife and kids. OUTSTANDING MOVIE.

My wife and kids gave it 10/10 I gave it a 9/10. I thought one or two parts were a little slow.

Lupita if so fine it hurts. Hell even the wife said she's fine.

Okoye was not to be fucked with. However I do like how she wasn't a hard ass, just focused.

W'Kabi almost got his ass kicked by his woman but he escaped the sunken place AGAIN and came to his senses.

M'Baku did have one of the funniest lines in the movie. Vegetarian.....hilarious.

And finally:

KILLMONGER WAS RIGHT!!!!

This...

Remember in Civil War T'Challa explains it perfectly...

"Your suit, it's vibranium?
"The Black Panther has been a protector of Wakanda for generations. A mantle passed from warrior to warrior. Now because your friend murdered my father, I also wear the mantle of king. So I ask you, as both warrior and king, how long do you think you can keep your friend safe from me?"

T'Challa wasn't born with power of the Black Panther - and it appears no one is given the heart shaped herb at birth...

at some point in this story his father and the priests had to find him worthy and gave it to him...

In the Marvel version - T'Challa didn't get the heart shaped herb or become Panther until he defeated his uncle during the challenge
