Let's start a IT Come up thread strictly off youtube

Na i was on that street stuff for 20 years maybe more, i didn't take school seriously until I lost my hearing and it got real.

I'm not used to operating at this level of articulate, educated people at all. I'm used to the warehouse and labor stuff, not used to the office stuff. It gets deep, really deep
Its all about presentation. We all are actors in the office. You just have to put on a face. You should read Dale Carnegie's how to win friends and influence people. Here's the PDF:
https://www.rfpmm.org/pdf/how-to-win-friends-and-influence-people.pdf

Its all about how to interact with people.

well both of my jobs are in the health care industry...........one being a dental company.....so its one of the main tools we use.
my job paid for the course and the exam. it was like $1,000
What exactly is Epic?

If you don't like office shit, have you looked into any kind of networking technician training?

Good information but don't get caught up acquiring every certification known to man. IT Managers are looking for experience, people who can communicate and provide solutions under pressure. You currently have enough certification to get a six figure job in my area. I've hired guys with less and they were getting $90K+, what put them ahead of other candidates with more certs is people skills.
In a lot of fields nowadays communication and experience trumps education so your absolutely right.

hey - let me take a look at your resume -remove your personal info of course
resume lacks experience for my age, I fucked around a lot... honestly i won't even say I fucked around that was my environment for decades.

Resume is pretty bad a lot of low paying shit, I'll send it but I'll probably have to leave BGOL if I piss you off.

I will send it later today by Dropbox to you PM.

I need to leave and go to some small town and just live there.

Yeah It's pretty complicated but honestly quite sad I'm actually looking at any job with healthcare that pays at least 40k a year, I'm also trying to go to brandon, florida which is right outside tampa.

Have you thought about getting a customer service related job in the meantime? It’ll help with articulation and developing a corporate voice. There are remote jobs that pay well.

I'm applying for anything right now. My story is pretty sad so I won't go into detail but I'm interested in hotel jobs and so forth the education may or may not work at this older age.

But I do have speech impediment inao.

Lotta shit should have been done decades back I simply didn't know by law I'm considered disabled but never got SSI.

I'll leave it there.

Speech impediment is not a disability. It is very tough without a lawyer or consultant. Trust me you don't want be on it chances are you are in bad shape health wise.

SSI has strict asset limits and low pay, SSDI is the way to go. I got rejected for both and trying to work.

I got sickle cell so the people in reddit group tell me to apply so I did and still waiting, I hear SSDI ain't much maybe like 2200 a month but I don't know what will happen. I can use it because I'm always tired with back pains but whatever.

You can work part-time and collect SSDI. I don't know anything about sickle cell.

That is another thread anyways, this is about IT.

Keep trying my brother I'm been out of work for a while starred IT in 2021. I'm not giving up it can be draining. I kno eventually I get mines. It's more of a mental thing to keep going and I'm 44 so I reflect on more things because of the wisdom that comes with age but remain solid there's nothing that can stop you from being great

I started looking this week, my current job has 0 work life balance. The pay is good but 60 hour work weeks and constant travel (recently) is not for me, I need to spend time with my family. It fuels me and when I work like that my energy is off. I will spend the next few weeks sharping my skills, I recently passed the Azure AZ-700 it took about 6 months, I had very little time to study.
It will be tough but we have to keep moving forward.

Bro, your date of birth is not on your resume. Chill out with the age stuff man.

true, but if you have graduation/completion dates, that can be an age indicator.
These days you can just put in someones name on google and get your answer. Before that though there were subtle ways they can find out. Especially in tech jobs. Usually with questions around what OS you learned skills on/what computer you used to learn to code, ect.

Ageism is real in IT, but @totto isnt at that stage yet. Its a problem for an early 70's baby, not an early 80's baby.

Youtube can be a good side hustle if you win the lottery(having charisma, finding the right topic, at the right time, and being able to monetize) but that requires a lot of variables to line up at the right time. Even then its not the same as a solid 9-5....especially in tech.

Peep this,

In 2009 when I first started looking for Internships the company I now work for was trading for 20 bucks a share. Its over 400 today. If a kid born in 87 graduated that year and started working there with a 50k grant they gave new hires back then and didnt touch any of their stock that is over 600k today. That is if they never got a single other stock vest, which they would have if they survived the 4 years to get the full amount. In all honesty you are a millionaire this morning at 37. You get that working at a big public tech company, and that isnt even taking into account the companies which exploded the last year or so. Look at Nvidia. A kid who graduated in 2019 right before covid who got something like 90k over 4 years is now sitting at 3.1 million dollars. Imagine being 27 and being a multimillionaire just from a 9-5 you got out of undergrad?

Now these sound like lottery shots, but this has been a consistent way to a wealthy life and generational wealth for families for decades.
