Marvel Movie Discussion: The Eternals f/ Angelina Jolie, Kit Harrington UPDATE: PART 2 COMING?

Count on it, bro.
As I understand it, feminism, LGBTQ representation and racial diversity are at the forefront of this film.
They've gone out of their way to change the gender, race and sexuality of many (if not most) of the main title characters.
You can expect to see the 1st gay (man on man) kiss/romance in this one, as well as the continued push for the "strong female character" arc.

Disney is pushing these agendas in ALL of their productions now.... :dunno:
I used to watch Spider-man and his Amazing friends and didn't realize all those years ago of watching Iceman on TV and reading about him in the X-men seeking his character flirt with women and have relationships with women that he was gay. I also didn't realize all those years that Tim Drake was Bi. They just happened to make him black in Titans. They'll probably make Iceman black when the make the X-men.

Nah, bro.
All those things you just mentioned were very RECENT changes to those characters.
In fact, all those particular "new revelations" only took place within the last 5 years in actual time.
For over 50 years Iceman has always been STRAIGHT.
- His recent sexual transformation only recently was retconned to appeal to the LGBTQ crowd.
- The same thing is true for Tim Drake as well, even though he's been around for a much shorter time period.

These companies rarely create NEW interesting characters for diversity and representation.
Their fear is that by creating new interesting characters like those, they won't sell to mass (White) audiences in general.
So, what they now do is take an existing character or IP and change them to fit current SJW/LGBTQ/Feminist/Racial identity politics.

Many people tend to think these are good examples of representation and racial diversity, but the sad truth is, it's often nothing more than gaslighting and pandering by entertainment corporations to manipulate folks into believing they really care about these things.

When in reality, they don't.... :smh:

Some of the critics comments are very interesting:

  • It's not exactly boring - there's always something new to behold - but nor it is particularly exciting, and it lacks the breezy wit of Marvel's best movies.
  • The weight of complicated exposition weakens the energy of Eternals a little too often. It's at its best when the focus is on the Eternals recreating their family -- the humor of it and the passion when they fight for each other and the things they love.
  • There are enough good elements here to warrant a fresh tomato, but wow did Chloe Zhao not understand the MCU assignment. Madden, Jolie, Nanjiani & Ridloff are the standouts.
  • It's constantly engaged in a kind of grit-toothed authenticity theatre, going out of its way to show you it's doing all the things proper cinema does, even though none of them bring any discernible benefit whatsoever to the film at hand.

There are a few positive comments as well. I am starting to think MCU has another Thor: The Dark World and Ironman 2 on its hands.

Still gonna see tho.

Nigga we braced ourselves months ago when they announced that bullshit.
Why the brother had to be gay?
I think the bigger story is how out of place he appears to be according to critics. Many critics state that Tyree is a great actor. Of course we love him in Atlanta, but not all roles are for everyone. This seems to be the case with him in Eternals. Gay or not.

BTW: I liked his cameo in Joker.

A comic head I'm cool with said something really interesting recently. He said he felt WB made great decision by pulling the Ava Duverney New Gods project. He said based off of her other works, it would have ended up similar to Eternals. The difference would have been, Ava and DC would have been crucified way worse than Zhao and Marvel. I agree.

And that's also a big thing. What people like is subjective. Critics don't always represent everyone. I have access to Black Widow via Disney, haven't watched it again since the release. I think The Eternals will be tge sane way. I will watch once and won't see it again until it's on TNT. Lol!! But, I thought the

Unfortunately, it's going to be hard for Marvel to repeat the Infinity Gauntlet Saga, because it is arguably the best Marvel storyline. The Eternals story is cool, but more thought provoking than action.

Fox fumbled three other top storylines. Days of Future Past should have been a saga. Dark Phoenix should have been a saga. Age of Apocalypse should have been a saga. The top storylines wasted on mediocre movies. Also, the Infinity Gauntlet Saga as presented by the MCU was centered around Ironman. Noone would have guessed that Ironman would have been so beloved and the standout Marvel character.

Nonetheless, Black Widow, Shang Chi, and now The Eternals are what they are. Spiderman and De. Strange will be good rebound movies and all the marvel fans would erase the later 3 titles from memory the same way they did the Hulk movie. Lol!!

BTW 20th Century Fox ain't all bad, Logan is in my top 5 greatest ever marvel comic movies.

Actually fans loved Shang Chi.

Why would any MCU fan try to erase it?

I think to say we "loved" Shang Chi is a tad strong. I think many of us thought it was cool. But not Captain America, Civil War, Ironman, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, The Avengers, etc. level cool. It's in the middle above Black Widow but below the aforementioned and a few others. It's cool tho.

But, maybe you loved it and thought it was better than those. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Im not talking about my personal opinion, Im talking about MCU fans and the critics.

The reviews for Shang Chi are literally better then Dr Strange, the 2 Ant Man movies, the first 2 Thor movies...

Im just wondering why you would think we would pretend it didnt exist.

Reviews are subjective. As an MCU fan, I just thought Shang Chi was just OK. Not horrible, but not great. To say we want to forget Shang Chi like some other releases is a stretch. I admit that. But comparatively, it's on par with Antman and the Wasp to me. Again, not horrible, but not "oh my God, this was amazing!"

But, The Eternals reference holds. Can't hit a homerun every time.

This is Phastos in the comic books. I don't know why they made him a fat gay dude in the movie. Oh wait I do know why.

Just got back from watching this...

I fucking loved this movie!

Just to get my self pat on the back out the way I nailed this:
The history of the black knight has been retconned a lot (think ancient knight revived in modern times) but, I suspect the majority of this movie and its story telling will take place and span thousands of years.
Mid credit scene was unexpected who they brought out, but great!

End credit I knew what was coming but well done. :bravo:

Thought it was good too. I didn't see the point of making Phastos gay, but I guess they had to fill the gay quota. That shit ruins movies for me.
so was that Strange or Blades voice at the end?[\spoiler]

I saw it on the Internet on Thursday morning!!..It was so so...It had some good storylines parts in the movie but overall it wasn't a movie you had to rush and see at the theaters!!..

Glad that I save my money once again!!...

Since it looks like Brian Tyree Henry is gay he probably asked to add that "aspect" to the movie. He way of coming out to the rest of the world.
