Well, it sure is funny how things are playing out now. With the studios shitting on 'hardcore' fans, shit is not going well at all. That is undeniable. You mention Spawn and Blade from over 2 decades ago and then diversity. As if diversity wasn't there otherwise you couldn't even mention those movies.

The issue isn’t viewership, it’s subscription.
Viewership is high for all these streaming services, but it doesn’t reflect on the company’s side.
For instance I have Disney+, when me, wife and 2 sons watched Thor:Ragnarok when it debuted. There are 4 people watching in my home at the same time.
From Disney point of view, all they see is one person my house hold under my account watching it, even though 4 people we’re watching it.
Another factor is the increasing cost of real estate in this country. Lots of families, friends and work colleagues were living independently and separate pre-pandemic. With what is happening with real estate, folks are now moving in with each other.
Eventually they do the math and realize once under one roof, why is everyone paying for a separate account when they can just consolidate it under one account.
That situation is adding for decreased subscription revenue…even though viewership is still high.
The technology is there to monitor who exactly is sitting in front of that screen. But the lunatic fringe MAGA Minions will be out on the street foaming in the mouth about this is the first step for The New World Order and Government monitoring.
So until they can develop the tech to not make monitoring non-intrusive, it will continue going the way it’s going.

I've watched Daredevil, Punisher and Luke Cage several times. I will never watch She-Hulk, Hawkeye, Loki or Wandavision again and I won't be purchasing any of the DVDs. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. There is room for both types of stories. Heroes save each other all the time, and some strengths can be more mental such as Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in science/inventor mode, but no woman wants to see a female superhero who has to get bailed out all the time.
As an aside, discussions regarding what is REALISTIC when taking about fictional characters with SUPER POWERS and non existent technology, worlds, species and races is hilarious to me. ABC shouldn't be able to do or save XYZ, yet interstellar space travel, the ability to fly, the chitauri and the Skrulls, a sentient tree and talking raccoon are TOTALLY within the realm of possibility.

Ideally I'd love to have a protector 24/7. I'm the woman who is not above calling my boyfriend at 3 am to kill a spider. I've called my brother as well. As I've gotten older tho I had to get over that fear and go for the vacuum or bug spray.
Many women live alone. They don't have anyone but themselves to check out noises or protect their kids. In my time doing customer service, I've also spoken with women who had protectors all their lives. The man controlled everything. Then he died. She knows nothing about the bills or the bank accounts or the debt. I've run into some men in that financial situation also, but far less.
Also, have you seen the comments around here? Many men don't want to be protector and provider or only wish to do so conditionally. No matter how willing you are to assume the role tho, you can't be there 24 hrs a day. Manga is more popular than Western comics because it's more socially acceptable for adults to read comics in Japan. This has nothing to do with film though. What was the last manga that became a hit film? Maybe Alita.
I brought up Spawn and Blade because you mentioned adhering to source material. Spawn was as loyal to the source material as any comic film ever made was but it didn't do it any good. Blade, meanwhile, was very loosely based on the source material and became a culturally significant film and a huge hit.
One way you know these fanboys don't know shit about movies is that none of them have made a single, successful film. They get online and complain about other people's work. They don't produce anything themselves.

Most of the people who watch Marvel aren't fanboys who've been reading Marvel comics for years and getting into arguments about how Jack Kirby is true genius rather than Stan Lee. They're people who may have read a few comics in childhood but want to see an entertaining movie they don't have to think about too much and can take their kids to.
In the gaming world, they'd be called "casual gamers." It's the people who don't take these films very seriously who makes them successful.
