What do you guys think of a Diaz vs Bradley fight? Both guys come to swing and neither has big power, could be exciting. Or Malignaggi vs one of the Petersons?

A Diaz/Bradley fight might be good...would look to be an action filled fight with lots of punches...If that fight can't be made for Diaz, then look for him to fight Amir Khan...

Paulie could fight Anthony Peterson...Both brothers are good, but I think that Lamont would end up being a tougher fight for Paulie though

Golota vs Adamek a reality?

IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek has announced that he is to face former four-time heavyweight title challenger and fellow Pole Andrew Golota on October 24 in Lodz, Poland. There was speculation that the fight could take place, but names like Bernard Hopkins and Steve Cunningham have also been mentioned as (more realistic) potential foes for Adamek.
This move will come as something of a surprise to the boxing world, and if Golota wasn't getting a bit long in the tooth nobody would give the smaller man a chance, but as things stand this will be an intriguing fight and a huge event for Poland. Both men are heroes in their home country and it would surely be one of the biggest fights the country has ever staged.
“I’m glad I finally learned the date for this fight,” Adamek said. “I want to show some quality boxing. The spectators in Lodz will see that I am a true warrior when in the ring.”
“I’m currently discussing the tactics for the fight against Andrew with my coach, Andrzej Gmitruk,” said Adamek “I will do the training in the States, I’ll come to Poland with 12 to 14 days left to the fight.”

A press conference concerning the Adamek-Golota fight is scheduled for this Tuesday in Warsaw.

Klitschko out until next year....

WBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will not fight again until 2010. Following his June win over Ruslan Chagaev, Klitschko was expected to defend later this year against American 'Fast' Eddie Chambers, but due to a combination of injury and lack of TV dates the fight has been postponed.
Manager Bernd Boente told ESPN.com that Klitschko had "minor tendon surgery on his left shoulder six weeks ago. His rehab is going well and he's making good progress."
The injury was not revealed at the time, and it is only now we are finding out about the surgery. If HBO had dates available this year it is unknown whether Wladimir would have been able to fight, but it will have had a big bearing on his decision.
Klitschko has fought on HBO for quite a while now, and with the financial rewards it brings, would unlikely be willing to switch to another less lucrative network.
Klitschko is expected to return in the spring, depending on the "final healing process, arena availabilities and TV dates."

Diaz gets questionable decision over Malignaggi

Toyota Center, Houston, Texas, United States

In a fast paced light welterweight bout, home town fighter Juan Diaz 35-2(17) got the benefit of a close decision before a sold out home town crowd as he won a unanimous decision over Paulie Malignaggi 26-3(5). Paulie Malignaggi used ring general ship and a fast jab to control much of the twelve round bout, but the home town judges must have felt Juan Diaz' aggression and punching was the deciding factor and scored the fight in favor of the "Baby Bull" by the scores of 115-113, 116-112 and an unbelievable score of 118-110 by judge Gale Van Hoy. After the bout Malignaggi expressed his disappointment with the scoring. For Diaz it is his first fight back after being stopped by Juan M. Marquez in February and is his second win in his last four bouts.

In an entertaining undercard bout, two time IBF featherweight champion Robert Guerrero 25-1-1(17) won the IBF super featherweight title with a unanimous decision over South African and defending champion Malcolm Klassen 24-5-2(14). Guerrero used side to side movement and a high volume of punches to control the bout and bring home the title by the scores of 116-113, 116-112 & 117-111. Klassen applied pressure, especially in the middle rounds but Guerrero finshed the twelve rounder the stronger fighter. With the win Guerrero now has his third world title in two weight classes.

After the fight Guerrero gave praise to the Mosley team for helping him prepare while training at the Big Bear camp in California.

In the opening bout of the show which was televised by HBO, prospect Daniel Jacobs passed a test by outfighting the experianced Ishe Smith 21-4(9) over ten rounds in a middle bout. Smith had some moments and even got Jacob's attention with a few good punches but Jacobs kept his composure and stayed in control. The final scores were 100-89, and twice by 100-89 and 96-93 twice. Jacobs improved his record to 18-0(15) with the win.

Sharkie’s Machine: Malignaggi, Diaz, the Texas Judges and Boxing

Last February, Juan Manual Marquez managed to beat the young strong Diaz in Houston the only way you can win there…by KO. But how did Rocky Juarez score a Draw against Chris John there? Anyone who knows boxing knows Chris John out boxed Juarez most of the night. Rocky’s a scrappy fighter, but there’s no way that fight was a Draw. Saturday night, Malignaggi out boxed and out scored Diaz in most of the rounds but didn’t score a knockout, so he lost the decision.

Last Saturday at the Toyota Center in Houston Texas, Light Welterweight, Juan Diaz (35-2, 17 KO’s) faced Paulie Malignaggi (26-3, 5 KO’s) of Brooklyn NY, in a fight that featured two guys who lost their last two fights to top level opposition. This was a crossroads fight for both men. You’d think in the interest of fairness that a fight of this importance would at least happen at a neutral venue; but no, it was in Diaz backyard, where visiting fighters can only win by knockout, because you can’t win by points in a fight against a local name brand fighter in Houston..

The Diaz vs. Malignaggi fight started with Malignaggi having a great first round, where he danced circles around Diaz, popping him with that fly swatter jab and scoring far more than Diaz, who was aggressive but ineffective against the mobile target that was Malignaggi. But at the end of the first, Diaz landed a shot at the bell that opened a cut on Malignaggi’s left eye. Near the end of the second, Malignaggi landed a right cross that opened a nasty cut over Diaz left eye. Of course there were screams of “head butt!” from everyone except the referee, who didn’t see a head butt, since there was none. Diaz came on strong in the second and third rounds with good pressure that forced Malignaggi to play defense instead of offense. Though Diaz punches often, he’s not a big banger either.

In the fourth, it was evening up as both scored in turn and by the fifth, Malignaggi was in a groove, moving real well, popping his jab and little pity pat punches that were scoring. Malignaggi won rounds four through six, and then Diaz won the seventh with a few good shots that looked to stun Malignaggi a bit. Rounds eight through 11 saw Malignaggi with renewed energy, out boxing Diaz and frustrating him, as he landed his jab repeatedly and used his right hand with effectiveness. Diaz went all out in the 12th round, but it wasn’t enough to win the boxing match.

The official scores were had no bearing of what took place in the ring, as Gale Van Hoy had it 118-110, Raul Caiz had it 115-113 and the other Judge, Dave Sutherland scored it 116-112, all in favor of Juan Diaz. Amazing. HBO’s unofficial scorer, Harold Lederman had it seven rounds to five in favor of Malignaggi. How did the three Houston Judges see it so very differently than Lederman?

These Judges are inexcusably incompetent. There’s no excuse why any of those three should ever be allowed to judge a pro boxing match again. But we’ll see them again, doing the same thing, just watch.

It’s a crime committed against honest fighters that work hard and succeed in their quest, only to see their careers go into the toilet because of dishonest ‘official’ decisions. How is it that this garbage continues, year after year after year?

In the lead up to this fight, Malignaggi talked about the way the deck was stacked against him, with the small ring that favored Diaz and having Gale Van Hoy and Raul Caiz for Judges, who Malignaggi said are biased. Paulie said he wouldn’t get a fair shake in Houston and he was right. Now he knows how Herman N’Goudjo and Lovemore N’dou must’ve felt after fighting him.

After the official scores were announced, Malignaggi looked like a man would after he realized his wallet was stolen on payday.

After the decision was announced, Diaz was interviewed and he expressed gratitude to Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions and his fans, who wouldn’t give Malignaggi a round of applause, even when Diaz asked them to. It takes a lot of guts to even step into the ring but to go fight more than a thousand miles from home and then win the fight and then get robbed by the judges…and even the fans in the audience won’t give you any respect? I’m no big a fan of Malignaggi but he earned my respect after his epic battle against Miguel Cotto, where Cotto broke Paulie’s jaw but he fought through the pain and gave a respectable account of himself in the biggest fight of his life. This fight in Houston was an outright theft and Paulie called it before the first bell rang.

During the post fight interviews, Diaz complemented Malignaggi, saying he was a great fighter. He said he wants a rematch (with soon to be 37 years old) Juan Manual Marquez, who scored a TKO in nine over Diaz last February in Diaz backyard. I didn’t hear Diaz call out Nate Campbell though, who like himself, also fights at 140 pounds these days.

When Malignaggi was interviewed, he wasn’t shy about expressing his feelings. He immediately asked the interviewer, Max Kellerman, how HBO scored the fight and Kellerman said that Harold Lederman scored it seven rounds to five in favor of Malignaggi. Then Malignaggi said, “At least someone got the score right. (the crowd jeered while he spoke) I don’t know why Houston is booing me? I have nothing against you guys, you’re good fans, you made a lot of noise. I don’t blame the crowd but I had to go through a lot of politics. It’s ridiculous! Raul Caiz is Golden Boy’s go-fer—and HE had the closest scorecard! This state never gives a fair shake to anyone coming to fight here.”

Max tried to change the subject, posing another question, “Assuming you don’t get a rematch with Diaz…” and Malignaggi cut him off saying, “You KNOW I won’t get a rematch! Boxing is full of shit! Diaz can call out Marquez or Mayweather but I don’t have that luxury because I’m just an ‘opponent’ after losing this fight. I have to take whatever I can get, like to be the opponent of another hometown fighter in his backyard. Congratulations Houston, you have a great warrior champion but I won this fight.”

As HBO wrapped up the show, Bob Papas said he didn’t think Malignaggi did himself any favors by what he said in the ring. He said he felt for him but some things you just got to take. Maybe that’s true since boxing is one of the only sports where the athletes have no representation. It’s all about the Promoters. There is no boxer’s union, like other sports have. Who looks out for the fighters? You’d hope it would be the boxing media.

Papas then said he could see 115-113 for Diaz or Malignaggi, or even a Draw, either way. He casually accepted the robbery he just saw happen as being something normal. I like Papas but I disagree with his attitude. Anyone who cares about boxing should be pissed off with the direction things have been going in the last decade. It’s just not a very good product anymore. Too many predictable fights, phantom top contenders, bogus decisions, no accountability for refs or judges, no mandatory rematches for No Contest fights that ended due to injury, too many titlists that don’t fight each other, too many Pay Per Views that suck and have under cards that are so bad, you’re half asleep by the time the main event begins. What’s to like about this crap when boxing could and should be so much better? This was once the most popular sport in the World.

It would take a fighter with a big appeal and resources to create a Boxer’s Union or Association that protects the fighters. Because boxing is a global sport, there should just one, World Sanctioning body. I used to hope Oscar or Bernard would use their popularity and resources to do something to help fighters but instead, they’re big time promoters themselves now. DLH seems more powerful than Don King; his influence with HBO is unrivaled.

We, the fans are the reason they’re in business. In this information age, there’s no reason we fans don’t let the Promoters and Sanctioning bodies know that we’re tired of all their garbage. We don’t mind them making money, so long as they deliver an honest product. We want real competition, legitimate, merit based rankings, competent officials and one champ per division.

In the last few months, I’ve seen a few MMA fights and I can’t recall any incident of the judges robbing a fighter. The matches are entertaining because their not mismatches and there seems to be nothing but respect from all the combatants toward each other before, during and after the fights. How is it that MMA can do this and boxing can’t?

'Left-Hook Lounge': Vivek Wallace's mailbag feat. Malignaggi, Mayweather, Marquez, Khan, and more!

Sebastian L. (Chicago, IL): I thought Malignaggi fought well, but I wasn't quite sure that he won the fight either (in my opinion). What were your thoughts on the outcome of the Malignaggi/Diaz showdown?

Vivek W. (ESB): In the beginning of this year I can remember telling a fight fan that "despite a few minor wrinkles, 2007 and 2008 were such great years for boxing that I expect the sport to ride that wave, and the only thing I see that could steal that momentum would be a harsh string of robberies and integrity lacking results". Less than three weeks later, I quickly learned the power of words as the very first marquee televised card of the new year (Berto/Collazo) kicked that 'string' off, and unfortunately, it hasn't stopped yet. When you look at recent months in the sport...(Cotto/Clottey, Campbell/Bradley, Malignaggi/Diaz, and the list goes on)...it's just a very painful thing to see.. What boggles my mind even more is the fact that these judges apparently think that only the guys they favor need to eat, because they continue to deny various hard working contenders the right to better feed their families. It's fundamentally ciminal. I try not to belittle judges because it's hard to say a man didn't see what he thinks he saw, but in cases like this where it's obvious, I think those judges should be taught the valuable lesson of not being able to feed their families by stripping them of their duties and permanently taking their licenses in all states. I'm in the process of starting a movement because something needs to be done. Any fight fans reading this that wants to call out a specific referee or judge, email his name to me and sit back as this unfolds. It's time to start holding people accountable and since few others have taken this initiative, I guess it'll take a rebel like me with no political afffiliations to blow the whistle and make a few enemies - which I've never done in my life.

Hector V. (Miami Lakes, FL): What are your thoughts on this newly created WBC Diamond Belt?

Vivek W. (ESB): I've been very vocal about this Diamond belt and my thoughts haven't changed. I think it's a makeshift belt with a very intriguing philosophy behind it, and when you consider the trend of the world today - (bling bling) - it only makes sense. Who wouldn't want a belt today that blings harder than any other, and it's supposedly ONLY for the fighters who stand at the absolute top echelon in the sport? Yeah, in appearance and philosophy the WBC created a helluva way to build buzz about the strap and you can believe that when Pacquiao or Cotto win it, everyone else will want it. I think it's just another example of how badly this sport needs to shed all the alphabet straps and created self-fulfilling titles like 'pound for pound', and organize one governing body, with one set of rules and one real commission. By the way, I agree with the pound-for-pound philosophy, but I have no faith in the way it's used now days. It's a celebrity contest, and rather than using skills as the major focal point, ability to put cheeks-in-seats is the main agenda because it's all about star power. How Kelly Pavlik makes some list, yet Ivan Calderon or even Nonaito Donaire doesn't is far beyond me. Hell, they just starting adding Marquez, and we still don't see Chris John, so please, spare me!

Mario S. (Boca Raton, FL): I have been watching some of Marquez's fights lately, particularly the one against Diaz. I wanted to know how do you rate his chances against Floyd?

Vivek W. (ESB): I think he has a very good chance. Better than many think. Don't get me wrong, if the Mayweather that left the sport is the one that returns, it could be a long night for Marquez, but all things remaining equal, this will be a very good fight. Mayweather will have to shed rust rather quickly because he's in against a man who is a very good boxer. Pacquiao is considered the best in the sport, and we all saw Marquez get up off the ground 3x and overcome that deficit to get a draw in a fight many saw him winning. So, let that be your gauge. Mayweather not only has to get beyond ring rust, but a certain level of additional pressure is on him as well because he knows everyone is not only watching his return, but they're also watching to see if he can soundly defeat a man that Pacquiao still hasn't totally proven that he could defeat without lingering questions. Many are talking this fight down, but I'll be perfectly honest in saying that after watching the preview clips for the pending HBO 24/7 series with Mayweather, it was good to see that the sport once again has that one figure to collectively talk about because that's what we need, be it good, bad, or indifferent. There wasn't always great news to report on "Iron" Mike Tyson, but it kept people around the world (fans and non-fans) watching. Same with Mayweather. Mosley - (a good example of the opposite) - is nearly as talented and certainly a better style to watch (for some), but he never had that buzz surrounding his name and has since learned that a closed mouth stays hungry because it cant be fed. So, I think the fight will be great and I look forward to it with more anticipation than any fight this year - with Pacquiao/Cotto being the lone exception. To answer your question, Marquez does have a chance, but Mayweather's effetiveness will dictate it.

Antonio R. (Queens, NY): Rumors are circulating about a potential Malignaggi/Khan fight. Do you think Malignaggi has something for him after seeing the Diaz fight?

Vivek W. (ESB): Absolutely. Malignaggi gets ripped for not having power, but his talent is unquestionable. The guy is one helluva fighter and looks like the change in corner help did him some good. I don't get caught up into mainstream talks - where people think a guy is washed up because he underperforms in a few fights or flat out loses. How many of us have performed to perfection everyday at work? It's a weak proposition. Malignaggi is an amazing fighter and although Khan is evolving quite well, I've never seen him face a slick fighter with an outstanding jab like this, so I think it could go either way. Malignaggi has a chin, so if it goes the distance, a side of me actually likes him to outpoint Khan, but that's only one possibility. Khan could execute well and get a "W" too. Like any other fight, it just depends on who executes best that night and who won't be denied.

Robert S. (West Covina, CA): Wladimir Klitschko is hurt now and apparently the Chambers fight is off. Who would you like to see Chambers fight in his absense?

Vivek W. (ESB): Honestly, I don't think it matters who I'd like to see Chambers fight because the one guy who would be best for his career is the one guy who is no longer on the table. I think Chambers' style would have made a very interesting fight for Wladi-K, and I think Chambers - based on recent improvement - has enough skills to win on points. I think he has sufficient defense to avoid flush shots, and enough speed and accuracy to land some powershots that aren't exactly unexpected as well. I really wanted to see this fight. The only other fight that I truly want to see him in is against a guy like Haye. That would have been a great guage for both men. With both Haye and Klitshcko off the radar, I could care less who Chambers fights because as much as I like him, I hate the fact that it won't be a career enhancing victory like Wladi-K would have been had Chambers defeated him.

So now Roy Jones would beat Bernard Hopkins?

by Geoffrey Ciani - Roy Jones Junior looked absolutely sensational during his impressive victory over Jeff Lacy. Indeed, it was a turn-back-the-clock type of effort for the former pound-for-pound king. Jones was doing everything right, never allowing Lacy much of a chance to get into the fight. He showed tremendous hand speed and was able to put together multiple-punch combinations almost effortlessly. His left hook looked outstanding, and at times he was capable of throwing four, five, and even six consecutive hooks, all of which usually found the mark. Most devastating of all was the left hook to the body which landed frequently and visibly shook Lacy each time it landed..

It was a ‘vintage’ Roy Jones Junior performance. Or was it? In the aftermath of the one-sided beat down administered by Jones, many boxing fans are sold—Roy Jones Junior is back. According to some, he is capable of beating the best and re-solidifying his position as one of the best in the sport. Some fans have even gone so far to suggest that Roy’s recent performance is evidence that he could beat elite fighters like Bernard Hopkins or Chad Dawson. Unfortunately, these fans are delusional in thinking that ‘Roy is back’. Don’t buy it, he isn’t.

Jeff Lacy is nothing more than the latest in a line of carefully selected opponents intended to make Jones look good. There is no doubt that Roy Jones looked impressive against Jeff Lacy, but Lacy fits the mold of fighters who Roy Jones can still feast on, even at his advanced age. That mold largely consists of fighters who have mediocre skills, lack tremendous KO power, and are slow in terms of both hands and feet. These are the fighters Jones excels against during this embarrassing stage of his Hall-of-Fame career. In many ways, the fight against Lacy resembled the farce against Felix ‘Tito’ Trinidad—a man who had no business stepping into the ring against anyone at 175 pounds, let alone Roy Jones Junior.

Up next, Jones is rumored to face Australian pugilist Danny Green, who appeared on the under card This contest is rumored to take place on November 21, possibly in Australia (which would be ironic if Jones finally left the States for a fight now, when for all those years, he was never willing to go to Germany to take on Dariusz Michalczewski). Green is another fighter who represents the typical mold of a fighter Jones feasts on, and his fight with Green will probably look a lot like his fight with Lacy. Like Lacy, Green is too slow and lacks the skills to compete with Roy Jones.

So is the hype true? Can Roy Jones really still beat Bernard Hopkins? Absolutely, positively, not!

Sure, he still has good reflexes and blazing hand speed, but that would not help him against an elite fighter like Hopkins. Whenever Jones has stepped it up against elite opposition in recent years, he has been dominated. Hell, even when he has stepped it up against not-so-elite opposition, like Antonio Tarver and Glenn Johnson, he was still beaten and beaten badly. When he tried to face a truly elite fighter like Joe Calzaghe, he was thoroughly outclassed, having lost virtually every round of the contest. He can no longer compete against top level fighters, and he knows it. This is why he continues to feast on mid-level opposition, and in doing so, he is trying to portray the illusion that he is still the same old Roy.

Considering the fact that Roy was once widely viewed as the best boxer in the world, he should be embarrassed for even taking fights against the Jeff Lacys and the Danny Greens of the world. This should not come as a surprise, however. Throughout his career, Jones has always put business before legacy, and in the process, he has cheated the fans, the sport, and himself. Rather than daring to be great and consistently proving his worth against the best available opposition, he preferred taking the easier routes which largely involved minimum risk for maximum gain. I cannot fault him from a business perspective, for he was (and still is) a very shrewd and successful businessman, but from a fan’s point of view, he never became all he could have become and that is a major disappointment. He is perhaps the most athletic and physically gifted fighter to ever step inside the squared circle, but yet, he never tried to prove his greatness on a consistent basis like truly great pugilists from the past.

While Jones is busy pitching a charade to the boxing world, Bernard Hopkins is still fighting elite opposition. In his last three contests, he has faced Winky Wright, Joe Calzaghe, and Kelly Pavlik, all of whom were considered amongst the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport at the time Hopkins faced them. He went 2-1 in those fights, losing only a razor-thin, debatable split decision against Joe Calzaghe. Now, he apparently has his eyes set on the winner of the Glen Johnson versus Chad Dawson rematch. Assuming Dawson will win this fight (as most observers anticipate), Hopkins will once again be taking on an elite pound-for-pound talent, and in the less probable event that Dawson loses, there is still a chance he might take on another elite fighter in the form of cruiserweight champion, Tomasz Adamek. Meanwhile, Jones is preparing to challenge the unheralded Danny Green.

If they fought a rematch now, Hopkins would thoroughly outclass Jones, and Jones knows it. This is way Roy is carefully selecting opponents like Trinidad, Lacy, and now Green. At this stage of his career, Jones would rather avoid meaningful fights against the likes of Adamek, Dawson, or Hopkins—because he knows he would get beat and probably get beat badly. Instead, he prefers virtually meaningless fights against mediocre opposition that poses little challenge to him, even in the twilight of his career.

Manny Pacquiao And The "Great" Debate

By Michael R. Cumberbatch - Increasingly over the past year in interviews, articles and various references the word “great” and the phrase “all time great” and Manny Pacquiao have become synonymous. Speaking to many avid fight fans there seems to be a debate brewing whether the monikers of great and all- time great belongs alongside the Pac Mans name..

One important factor to discuss is opinion and relativity. One man may find one or two great fighters in a pool of one hundred whereas another another may deem twenty to be worthy of greatness. Some throw around the word “great” in every other sentence, while some reserve it for that fighter they get emotional speaking about.

When looking at the Pac man’s career, most will agree any fight prior to 2003 is not meaningful in making the determination if he truly is a great fighter. Even the staunchest Pac critics agree he has evolved into a better fighter since those early days but to be fair not all these post 2003 fighters have been in their prime. Let’s take it a step further; we can break this debate down to six fights:

Vs. Marco Antonio Barrera (I) a dominant performance culminating with an 11th round TKO. Many say Barrera was not the same fighter at this point having already gone through two brutal fights with Erik Morales.

Vs Juan Manuel Marquez (I) In this controversial draw that featured Marquez down in round one three times, many including this writer had Marquez winning a close decision. A fight that was very close neither side could argue much.

Vs. Erik Morales (I) A close loss for Pacquiao in their 2005 bout. What is important to point out is that Morales at this point is no longer the same fighter. His best days as a fighter are clearly behind him. Following this fight Morales goes on to lose 4 fights in a row including 2 KO losses to Pacquiao.

Vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (II) You would be hard press to find many boxing experts who thought Manny Pacquiao won this fight. Pac was busier, but Marquez was clearly the more accurate fighter.

Vs. Oscar De La Hoya No one should disagree that this was a dehydrated ODH that had not fought at welterweight since 2001 when he defeated the late Arturo Gatti. It was Pac’s trainer Freddie Roach who admitted seeing fresh needle marks on ODH, indicating he was hydrated in the dressing room prior to entering the ring. The question to ask is Manny vs. a Prime ODH; the answer is not the same result of this one sided affair.

Vs. Ricky Hatton Give Pac credit. Hatton didn’t have a chance no matter what game plan he followed or who his trainer was.

The most probable answer to the great debate is depending on how you use the word he may or may not be a great fighter in your eyes. At this point I certainly don’t consider him to be an all-time great. There are still some chapters to be written into Pac’s legacy. If we are to believe the recent comments saying he would fight only a couple more times after the Cotto fight , one this is for sure they will be against meaningful top level opponents giving credence to where his place is in boxing history.

I also liked what he said in his answer to his first question...Something does need to be done about these bitch ass judges...

Bradley-Campbell II? Maybe after this incident :yes::yes:

Bradley and Campbell in Near Brawl After CSAC Hearing

By Rick Reeno

BoxingScene.com was advised that following their Monday hearing with the California State Athletic Commission in Downtown, Los Angeles, WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and Nate Campbell were nearly involved in a non-sanctioned rematch on the street.

On August 1, Bradley scored a three-round TKO victory over Campbell, and on Monday afternoon the CSAC overturned the outcome and changed it to a no-decision. During the third round of their fight, there was a bad clash of heads that caused a cut to open up above Campbell's left eye. The fight was stopped after Campbell, between the third and fourth rounds, informed his corner that he was unable to see from his left eye. The referee, David Mendoza, said the cut was caused by a punch - after the clash of heads, and ruled the fight in favor of Bradley. After reviewing all of the evidence, the CSAC disagreed with Mendoza's ruling and changed the decision.

After speaking with numerous witnesses, BoxingScene.com was able to piece together the near-violent aftermath. From what I was made to understand, Bradley, his father and promoter Ken Thompson of Thompson Boxing were the first to leave. Campbell, manager Terry Trekas and attorney Josh Dubin left a few minutes later.

Bradley was walking about ten feet ahead of Campbell when - according to witnesses - he turned around and began to tell Campbell "you got away with quitting, you got away with quitting." At that point, both fighters exchanged some heavy language, which led to Campbell taking off his jacket and walking over to Bradley to settle the dispute with their fists.

Bradley's father jumped in front of his son before the scene would get violent. Trekas and Dubin tried to calm Campbell down, who was in the zone.

"You're a punk ass bitch hiding behind your daddy. [Speaking to Bradley's father] just let him go, he's grown, just let him come out here. You’re going to see me again. You might see me in the ring or you might see me on a sidewalk like this but you will see," Campbell was alleged to have said.

Both fighters continued to shout at each other until a member of the commission stepped out and scolded both fighters, and reminded them over and over - "you are both licensees, you are both licensees." Neither fighter was looking for a suspension and the drama came to an end.

Bradley was walking about ten feet ahead of Campbell when - according to witnesses - he turned around and began to tell Campbell "you got away with quitting, you got away with quitting." They both had good points - I can't kick the feeling that Bradley is right about Campbell getting away with quitting. Boxers get cut all the time, I've seen guys keep fighting with cuts over both eyes, badly swollen. Imo Nate wanted that fight stopped because he knew he wa going to lose and look bad doing it. Now on the other hand, the ruling was bullshit, that cut was caused by a headbutt and should have been ruled as such. Good drama though - hope to see a rematch.

Pacquiao Warned by Ex-trainer: Cotto is Dangerous

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

The American trainer who handled Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao when he won the WBC flyweight title with a spectacular 8th round knockout of highly-favored Chatchai Sasakul of Thailand in December 1998 warns Pacquiao that WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto is “definitely a dangerous opponent.”

In an interview for the top-rated weekly boxing show “The Main Event”, Rick Staheli said that despite the dangers posed by Cotto he expects Pacquiao to ultimately win the fight and a record seven world titles.

Staheli said “if Manny uses his hand speed, his foot speed and he boxes him (Cotto) I think he’s the better guy on that night. I think Cotto is going to have to catch him and knock him out to win that fight. I’m really looking forward to this fight.”

Staheli said that trainer Freddie Roach “knows the weaknesses and strengths of both fighters and he knows Manny strengths – using his foot speed, his hand speed, different angles and a lot of punches in bunches. And if he sticks to that game- plan and boxes him I think he’ll beat him.”

He said “at the end of the day I think Freddie (Roach) just wants him to win this fight and not get hit because he (Pacquiao) is venturing into dangerous waters when this guy (Cotto) is a 145 pounds.”

Australia’s new IBO welterweight champion Lovemore Ndou who gave Cotto a rough time before dropping a close twelve round decision in Las Vegas in 2004 believes Pacquiao has the speed to beat Cotto.

In an interview with the Australian boxing magazine “World of Boxing” Ndou predicted it would be a great fight but added “I believe Pacquiao could be fighting Cotto at the right time. C otto got beat up really bad by (Antonio) Margarito and he struggled against (Joshua) Clottey. Based on that it could be Pacquiao’s fight. Pac should be too quick.”’’

Staheli also told us he was looking forward to the comeback fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr against Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19 in Las Vegas in a fight that will be telecast “live” in the Philippines by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN.

The American trainer said “It will be a tough fight for him (Mayweather) will win that fight and I think everybody wants to see Manny against Floyd, the last two pound-for-pound kings in the world.”

Staheli said he watched a replay of Mayweather’s fight against Carlos Baldomir and I realized that Pacquiao “is faster and to me Floyd doesn’t throw enough punches. I actually think that Manny can beat Floyd.”

Staheli said that if Marquez never fights Pacquiao again “he’ll go to his grave actually cursing Pacquiao because in his mind he thinks he won both of those fights where he got a draw and lost a controversial split decision. He is very, very hungry and he definitely wants a rematch with Pacquiao.”

Roach: "Manny Pacquiao Will Expose Miguel Cotto"

By T.K. Stewart

While Manny Pacquiao plays the lead role in a movie currently being filmed in the Philippines, his opponent on Nov. 14th, WBO welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto, has already begun light training in his native Puerto Rico for the fight that is still over 11 weeks away.

Pacquiao won't begin his fight preparations for another few weeks, but exactly where he will do so is still a question that has yet to be answered. Pacquiao typically trains within the friendly confines of Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.

However, a complicated Internal Revenue Service rule known as the “substantial presence test” mandates that non-resident aliens can only spend a certain number of days in the United States. If a person exceeds that number of days in a three-year period, they are considered a resident for tax purposes and their income is taxed accordingly. Pacquiao is dangerously close to exceeding the number of days allowed and he can only spend another month in the United States this year – before it would cost him millions in additional income tax.

“The IRS rule says that Manny can only be here in America for another three weeks or so,” said his trainer Freddie Roach, speaking to BoxingScene.com from the Wild Card Gym. “I thought Bob [Arum] might find a way around it. But they tell me they can't, so we're going to have to go someplace else.”

For the past several weeks, where that “someplace else” will be has been the topic of great speculation. In total, Pacquiao is going to have an eight-week long training camp for the Cotto fight.

“The three weeks he's allowed here will be two weeks here at the Wild Card and another week in Las Vegas,” explained Roach. “I'm hearing the Philippines, maybe Vancouver [British Columbia, Canada] maybe Mexico. We'll find someplace, so be it.”

According to Roach, “Manny will have the final say” on the training location. Various reports emanating from the Pacquiao inner circle suggest he may head back to the Philippines after the American press tour for the fight concludes on Sept. 14th. Two cities in the Philippines being mentioned are Baguio and Cebu.

The vagabond nature of the training camp doesn't seem to be bothering Roach much. As usual he is supremely confident that Pacquiao will again be the winner when the dust settles.

“I'm expecting Cotto to be at his best,” said Roach. “But Pacquiao is at the top of his game right now. I'm expecting Cotto to be more resilient than Oscar and Hatton were, so he'll give us a better fight than those two guys did. The biggest thing with Cotto is that he's a strong guy, but Manny's not going to stand in front of him and trade. I feel that we'll be able to expose Cotto. His skills aren't quite where they used to be and we're going to expose him.”

Marquez May Have to Face Katsidis vs Escobedo Winner

By Mark Vester

During the WBO's convention in Budapest, Hungary, it was ruled that WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez would have to face the winner of Michael Katsidis vs Vicente Escobedo - if he loses to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Marquez challenges Mayweather at the catch-weight of 144-pounds on September 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Katsidis vs. Escobedo takes place on the undercard, with the WBO's interim-lightweight title on the line. If Marquez loses to Mayweather and fails to meet the winner of the that fight, the winner would become the full champion.

If Marquez beats Mayweather, the WBO would allow him to postpone his title defense in order to give him time to make another big fight.

"Marquez is one of the biggest world champions in the WBO. We have given him the status of super champion, and therefore, if he beats Mayweather, he will have clearance to continue looking for big fights without having to defend his crown. But if he loses, then the WBO will ask that he face the temporary world champion, and that person will arise from the encounter between Michael Katsidis and Vicente Escobedo," said WBO president Paco Valcarcel.

Mayweather Will Struggle With Marquez, Says Paco

By Mark Vester

During the recent WBO convention in Hungary, WBO president Paco Valcarcel predicted that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will have some struggles during his September 19 meeting with current WBO/WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez moves up by nearly two weight division to meet Mayweather at 144-pounds. Many see the fight as an easy night of work for Mayweather but not Paco. He predicts that Mayweather will have his hands full with making the weight. Mayweather has not fought below the welterweight limit for several years.

"I believe that Mayweather is going to have more problems than many expect by moving down to 144-pounds. When he accepted the fight, I knew that it wasn't going to be easy for him to make the negotiated weight. Another problem for Mayweather is being inactive for such a long time. He won't have his usual rhythm during the fight. Those two points can be vital in this battle," Paco told ESTO.

Paco believes that Marquez has more than enough tools to overcome Mayweather.

"Marquez, I consider him to be one of the most intelligent boxers that there is. He knows how to solve big problems in the ring and above all else, he is a warrior. He has a lot of tangibles and he elevates himself in big fights," Paco said.

Marquez: "I Will Try To Knock Floyd Mayweather Jr Out"

By Mark Vester

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya says Juan Manuel Marquez can put himself in position to be compared to the Mexican legend himself, Julio Cesar Chavez, if he manages to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. De La Hoya says Marquez has his entire future riding on this fight. He expects his fighter to beat the odds by beating Mayweather.

"If Juan Manuel wins this fight, everyone will want to fight him. I can say that Marquez winning this fight will have him mentioned in the same category as all of the big names from Mexico like Chavez - so this fight is very important for him," De La Hoya told The Record.

Marquez is obviously predicting victory. He doesn't just want any victory, he wants the knockout. He knows it won't come easy but it won't stop him from trying.

"Although I think it's going to be difficult to knock him out because of his defense, we are still going to try to do it and throw everything at him and you know that I always like to leave everything in the ring," Marquez said.

Mayweather Jr. vs Marquez: Taking The Path of Least Resistance

When former P4P numero uno and welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr (39-0-0) announced his sudden retirement after his last fight in 2007, it was met with criticism, and was seen as an eventual escape from facing real competition in a division littered with quality oppositions. His overall career, was actually widely criticized, even though it bannered a flawless record of no losses and world championship belts in three different classes.

For someone blessed with abundant talent, great boxing skills, and good pedigree, Mayweather, Jr. was perceived to have been only looking for easy money fights instead of fighting the best available opposition, especially during his stint at the welterweight division. Potential big fights with Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, and even Paul Williams were on the horizon after his victory versus Junior Welterweight champ Ricky Hatton, but as what happened, he retired prematurely.

His fight with Hatton, not surprisingly, only bolstered the negative perception about his supposed “soft” competition. He faced a fighter who was moving up to the welterweight division, and whose last fight (and his only other fight) in that division was a showcase of struggle. Ranged against a limited but legitimate welterweight in Luis Collazo (26-1-0 at that time), Hatton showed in that fight, and probably the boxing world as well, that his strengths and effectiveness at 147 were nowhere near or the same when he was at 140, where he held the IBF, WBA, and IBO belts since 2005. Although Hatton won in the end, it was a very disputable, controversial unanimous decision.

Less than a month from now, Mayweather, Jr. will be returning to the ring after almost a two-year hiatus, taking on the challenge of lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (50-4-1). And just like before his retirement, his return is also met with loud howls of criticism and the reasons are obviously plenty.

Because any way you look at it, the Mayweather, Jr.–Marquez fight is simply a case of one very skilled super featherweight fighter moving up to an uncharted division to battle one very skilled welterweight; a mismatch in terms of size. Mayweather has been fighting comfortably in the welterweight division for years now, while Marquez has gone up to lightweight just recently, which is two divisions down from welterweight, and though he looks stronger and gives impressive display of absolute heart, grit, and toughness there, he sometimes looked more vulnerable than ever, especially against his fight with former lightweight champion Juan Diaz, who bullied and pressured him effectively early on.

Aside from the size difference, Mayweather, Jr., like Marquez, is fundamentally sound offensively, and even has a significantly better defense overall. And for everything El Dinamita would bring to the table, Mayweather has them in aces: both are naturally accurate counterpunchers and technically well-rounded boxers, but Mayweather has all the physical advantages — faster, quicker, stronger, and more athletic. And let us not forget the age. Marquez, at 37, has been defying Father Time for some time now, and has been in bloody battles in almost all of his recent fights, most notably against Diaz, Casamayor, Pacquiao, and Barrera. Sooner or later, the wear and tear would pop out, and with him going up in weight once more, and against an equally elite boxer in Mayweather, Jr., who knows? There is a big chance this could be it.

The odds are very much stacked big-time against perhaps, and arguably, the best Mexican warrior since Julio Cesar Chavez in this match-up, and it will take a great combination of heart, skills, determination, and conditioning on his part to upset the heavily-favored Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Realistically, the only hope Marquez can hold on to is to have the Pretty Boy feel the effect of his ring inactivity and the reported injury he got from a sparring session leading to this fight, and wilt under his now-aggressive style of offensive attack. This will be a competitive fight, if only because Marquez’ toughness and skills will not allow it to become such a one-sided blow-out, but eventually, Mayweather’s equally elite boxing skills, considerable size advantage, and style shall prove to be decisive in this clash.

It is clear even before the announcement of this fight four months ago, that this is merely a tune-up for Mayweather, and whatever promotional gimmicks the spin doctors from Golden Boy Promotions and his own promotion would want us to believe, the fact remains that Mayweather is taking the path of least resistance here in his quest to land a huge showdown with the current P4P king, Manny Pacquiao.

Among the active boxers in his division, he could have faced the WBA world champion in Shane Mosley and regain back his belts. But Mosley, who pulverized his last two opponents, “Tijuana Tornado” Antonio Margarito in nine brutal rounds, and Fernando Mayorga in the 12th round, and who despite his age, is looking stronger than ever. Stylistically, and with his size advantage, Sugar Mosley should give Mayweather a really difficult fight. Another potential big fight for Mayweather that he could have chosen is a fight with Puerto Rican and WBO Welterweight title holder Miguel Cotto, who at this point, is at his prime and should be ready for any challenges. Unfortunately, it seems Mayweather, Jr., not unlike before he retired temporarily, has decided to take the criticisms once again than to take the best available fights and have the chance of forever silencing his detractors and critics alike.

MONEY MAY, GREEN WITH ENVY

A month from now, the apathetically anticipated boxing match between Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will be a reality.

Or is it?

Most boxing fans, pundits and talking heads have pretty much ignored and stayed away from discussing or being enthusiastic about this inappropriately titled boxing match; Number One-Numero Uno. Of course, it is the right description, if we are talking about whiners and not about the best pound for pound boxers.

Lil’ Floyd is so befuddled by the obvious lack of excitement about his fight while Pacquaio-Cotto’s Firepower is creating an incredible degree of anticipation even beyond the boxing world, that he is doing his arrogant best just to get some semblance of attention. He has injected the race card. He sparred with ESPN and anybody else who disagree with him. He has essentially proclaimed himself as boxing god to anybody who would listen. Sadly for him, nobody seemed to be really listening. His bloated ego is hurting enormously for the apparent snub.

It must be heart wrenching for Lil’ Floyd to accept that the only time he gets somebody to listen is when he talks about Pacquaio. During the Numero Uno-Number One press conferences, Pacquaio is mentioned so many times, one would think Pacquiao is the main protagonist. Poor Juan Manuel Marquez, he has become practically invisible during these promos.

For the past year, Freddie Roach has been pretending to be Carmac the Magnificent, accurately predicting that the great Oscar De La Hoya would succumb to Pacquaio in eight rounds and boldly sticking his neck out that Hatton would go down in three. OK, he was wrong. Hatton was sent to dreamland at the end of two. But are we going to be picky?

In one of his interviews, he thinks that the Numero Uno-Number One bout may end up canceled.

Mr. Freddie Roach may be on target once again. There are writings on the wall that point to an outright cancellation. Although Lil” Floyd is trying very hard to be at his obnoxious best and hype up the fight including falsely claiming he grew up in a ghetto and a guest appearance at WWE, still nobody seems to be interested. A potential criminal case involving one of Floyd’s employees in a shooting incident could also pose a problem.

Tickets have been on sale for more than 2 months now but sales remain as cold as the Alaskan Tundra, while Firepower almost sold out in less than 2 days.

Interestingly, there are reports that the 5,000 rooms at the MGM Hotel are all booked during the November 14 weekend, while there are plenty of rooms available during the weekend of September 19. What a contrast!

Juan Ma and Floyd fans, if you are out there, worry no more. The fight will go on.

Although maintaining a positive façade, massive jolt of reality has caught up with Lil Floyd and Golden Boy CEO. Mr. Schaefer. They finally recognized that Lil’ Floyd cannot draw boxing fans on his own. It is well known that Juan Ma cannot even get the Mexicans excited, so he is not even in the equation. Although it was a bitter pill to swallow, Junior is clever enough to make financial concessions to pack the under card with good and exciting fighters who on their own merits can be main event headliners.

Whiners: Numero Uno – Number One will be saved from box office disaster not by Juan Ma, not by Lil Floyd but by first-rate and marketable boxers fighting in the under card. It is well known that Katsidis, Chris John, Rocky Juarez, and Zab Judah have enough name recognition and fan base that Sept 19 will not end up a catastrophic failure. However, knowing that the mere addition of a good undercard, not seen in many years, may not be enough to attract a lot of paying fans, Schaefer is resorting to smart corporate sponsorship to drive up more revenue to help offset the projected substantial losses.

Regardless, Numero Uno-Number One will be a box office and PPV disappointment. 200,000 PPV buys will be an overly generous estimate. Golden Boy will be lucky to fill the arena with enough warm bodies even with tickets selling under face value.

What would this mean for Manny Pacquaio?

After successfully prevailing over Cotto in a thrilling and action packed fight with a blockbuster box office receipts and decent PPV numbers that would be in the vicinity of 700,000, he will definitely be in the driver’s seat in any future negotiations with Money May or Juan Ma.

Although a Manny vs. Money fight will generate obscene payday for both fighters, a Manny-Juan Ma bout would not be far behind. Either man Manny fights, the Filipino Pound for Pound King would not only win in the ring but also would amass a financial windfall.

Lil Floyd must really be crying inside seeing Pacquaio having the upper hand and getting all the attention.

Ok found something for you. Escobedo is kind of like a young Oscar(looks like him too) with less speed but more discipline. But he is going to have his hands full with Katsidis all out syle. He fights a lil too straight up. It'll either be a brawl if Mike can get Vicente to war with him or Katsidis will be outboxed like he was against Diaz. Check him out

Roy looked pretty good for 40, but I hope he's not geeked enough off this victory to step to B-Hop or Chad Dawson. Go to Australia, fight Green, and hope he doesn't knock you the fuck out, because he really did look like a new fighter on Sat. Lacy's performance was another excercise in futility.

HBO PPV Boxing: Oscar De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao

Two surefire Hall of Famers prepare for one of boxing's most intriguing bouts. The 35-year-old De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs) turned professional after winning the gold at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. A native of East Los Angeles, he has routinely set box-office records during his stellar career, ranging from the junior lightweight division to the middleweight ranks. A national hero in his native Philippines, the 29-year-old Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) is recognized by most boxing observers as the sport's unofficial pound-for-pound king. Demonstrating knockout power in four weight classes, he will now jump from the 135-pound lightweight division to the 147-pound welterweight ranks to battle De La Hoya.

merce: i guess the issue is that i'm looking for particular fights that aren't listed here, have dead links, or are passworded

for everyone's convenience (and because i've got some time on my hands), i'm going to consolidate all the video posts throughout the thread, starting waaaay back in 2007.

You still haven't told me which fights in particular you are searching for, if I can find the specific fight I'll post it. And don't bother with that boxing torrent site, I fucked with them for a while but the mods there overmanage everything, and half the time when you dl something, you can seed for weeks and still not reach even 100mb uploaded so they end up iving you warning after warning. Fightfranchise.com is the shit.

you're right about how trash the torrent site is, their whole stup is fucked up. they've got the dumbass "use your isp email" to register bullshit, there's nothing over a month old that's properly seeded, and that's just the beginning of it's problems. i just regged to fightfranchise.

the fights i'm actually looking for are as listed:

foreman/moorer

foreman/lyle

shavers/lyle

ali/norton

holmes/shavers

holmes/cooney

qawi/ ms muhammad

i'd appreciate it if you could hook me up with these.

Give me a litle time to look, I know Ive seen most of these posted on FF, WelshDevilRob and CircleInsideABox are two of the biggest boxing uploaders on the net and they're both mods on FF and they stay uploading rare shit. I should be able to find 90% of what you want no problem. I'll get back to you.

I think I'm going to have to piece Shavers/Holmes together round by rond, can't find it anywhere except Youtube, I'll rip it, convert it, and upload it. And gimme a little time to locate the Qawi fight. It's a little harder to get than the rest.
