I read earlier on Dan Rafael's chat that Taylor was still concussed and taken to the hospital afterwards. Alternates are lined-up and it sounds like Alan Green will soon take his place. This should seal the deal for Taylor's career. It was an eventful run for him.

OKAY, finally got my internet and cable set up, Comcast took a week to come to my house:smh: Haven't been able to give this thread any attention. Anyway, thelast fight i saw was May vs MArquez and that shit was a masterpiece regardless if he was fighting a much smaller dude. I raslly don't see anyone beating Floyd. Only Shane has a chance and not a very big one. Funny that people are giving Cotto no chance to beat Pacman even tough Pac is going to be every bit as small and underpowered as MArquez was. I still don't like Floyd(the fighter/promoter) and don't think highly of him taking advantage of little fighters but he looked rididulously fit and hasn't lost a step regardless of whom he fought that night. Anyway, still have to see the opening tourney bouts. I bring gifts and offerings though, peace to ya'll and enjoy. BTW, anyone know where I can get a dog whistle, I bought a house right next to this motherfuckin Mexican who has six poodles in his backyard and they drive me nuts, i want a lil getback.

Yeah it was eventful alright...Two gifts against a hall of famer and look what that got him...three wins, four losses, and a draw (another loss) and those wins came against opponents that he was heavily favored against.

So much for that :smh:

On Sunday, October 18, Jermain Taylor was released from the Hospital in Berlin, Germany, having been given clearance by a team of Doctors to continue with a planned vacation in Europe. Taylor was admitted as a precautionary measure after suffering from concussion-like symptoms following his fight with Arthur Abraham on Saturday night.

"I want thank all my fans and those concerned and let everyone know I'm doing just fine and feeling good,” said Taylor. “I want to congratulate Arthur Abraham on his victory and wish him well in the tournament. Right now my plans are to relax and enjoy my vacation in Europe with my wife, Erica.”

Team Taylor is equally thankful for the outpouring of support shown by fans around the globe, and promises their number one goal is making sure their charge is fit and healthy.

"All of us at DiBella Entertainment are grateful that Jermain is feeling better after fighting his heart out on Saturday night,” said Lou DiBella, promoter of Taylor. “Jermain showed his warrior spirit after working tirelessly to approach the fight in the finest shape of his career. Happily, with the doctor’s blessing, he has been released from the Hospital and is presently relaxing in Europe. This is the best news we could’ve received."

Dirrel and Froch Quotes

WBC Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch on his points win over Andre Dirrell in their Super Six World Boxing Classic encounter:

“It was close but I had no doubt in my mind that I had won the fight. He’s a slick, fast, counter puncher and when you combine that with the negativity he showed in there it made it a very difficult night.

“I don’t know how he expected to come to the Champions hometown and take the WBC belt fighting like that. Nobody likes to see someone running and being negative and I think people recognoised that I was trying to make a fight of it but it takes two to tango. I like to stand there and have a fight and give the fans and the TV viewers a real show but Dirrell wasn’t interested in that kind of fight.

“I’m sure he’ll improve from that performance and it will have been a learning experience for him but at that kind of pace I could have gone 25 rounds.”

Froch on the 8,000 Cobra fans present in a sold out Trent FM Arena in Nottingham:

“The Nottingham fans really turned out for me so I’m a little disappointed that they didn’t get to see more of a fight. Their support is a privilege and an honour and I’m taken aback that 8,000 people would come out to support me at 2 in the morning.

“I feel sorry for the fans that it wasn’t a more exciting fight but I can only fight what’s in front of me. I’m satisfied to retain my title, I’ve just beaten one of the best boxers the U.S. has to offer and I didn’t get hit with anything that gave me any trouble at all. He felt quite fragile in there when we were in close. I felt twice as strong as him and he didn’t really have any physical presence. I think he felt my strength in there too and that’s why he was so negative and tried to disrupt the rhythm of the fight.”

On his next fight in the Super Six tournament, a mouth watering showdown with Mikkel Kessler:

“I know that Kessler will bring a war and the fans will have a real fight to look forward to there. That’s a fight I’m relishing. Hopefully he’ll beat Andre Ward in their fight next month so both the WBC and WBA belt’s will be on the line in our fight.

"I think he will, so far the tournaments gone as I expected. Jermain Taylor got knocked out again in the last round against Arthur Abraham so Taylor must be jinxed because it was exactly the same time in the same round that I knocked him out. I expected Abraham to beat him and obviously I expected to beat Dirrell so it’s all gone as I thought it would so far."

Andre Dirrell on the split decision verdict and the point deduction:

“I know I could have done more in there but I believe I definitely did enough to win the fight. I’m still clueless as to why the referee took the point. The points should have been taken from Froch, I thought he was the one pulling and holding and he was rough all night. He was the one using the dirty tactics."

Dirrell on the lessons learned from the defeat:

“I definitely learned some things tonight. I know I can go all twelve rounds at this level and I proved that I’m a warrior in there. It’s a loss and it hurts but it will only motivate me and make me work harder in the gym. This tournament has only just started and I still believe I’ll be there at the end of it.”

J.M. Lopez turns attention to future after narrow win.

10225202_36_2.jpg

Every second must have been like an eternity for Juan Manuel Lopez.

The WBO super bantamweight champion was expected to easily dispatch Rogers Mtagwa on Saturday night, continuing his ascension into boxing's upper echelon.

Juan Manuel Lopez definitely lost some luster on Saturday. (Gregory Payan / Associated Press)

It didn't turn out that way.

After building a big early lead, Lopez suddenly found himself in survival mode against the hardheaded, Tanzania-born journeyman. The final three rounds went by so slowly that the 24-year-old champ was stealing glances at the clock, almost willing the seconds to tick away, his legs rubber and his face swelling up under Mtagwa's relentless attack.

"A lot of people think I'm Superman. I get hurt just like everybody else," said Lopez, who survived for a unanimous decision. "I guess that answers the question when something in the ring happens to me. I showed you tonight, I was resilient."

Resilient, yes, but the fight provided as many questions as answers.

Lopez had been on a steep trajectory since knocking out Daniel Ponce de Leon in the first round to win the title less than two years ago. Puerto Rico's 2008 Fighter of the Year hadn't gone the distance in more than three years, and with a crowd-pleasing style and winning personality, promoter Top Rank had him earmarked for much bigger things.

The plan was for Lopez (27-0, 24 KOs) to make another defense of his 122-pound belt early next year, perhaps against fellow titleholder Celestino Caballero, before moving up in weight for a megafight with Cuban knockout artist Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Top Rank chief Bob Arum believes that's still feasible, although even he was screaming at ringside as Lopez struggled to hang on against Mtagwa.

"(Mtagwa) stayed in there, he didn't get discouraged, and at the end he had Juanma reeling, so you have to give him all the props," Arum said. "But Juanma didn't have to make it that difficult."

Caballero has been calling out Lopez for weeks, but the two sides are far apart on money, which means Lopez could instead move up in weight immediately to face featherweight titlists Steven Luevano or Elio Rojas. Either way, Lopez is expected to fight on Jan. 23.

"Caballero is being very, very difficult — his people are being very, very difficult — as to the amount of money he wants for the fight," Arum said. "We've offered him $150,000, and if he doesn't want it, that's fine. I got no problem with that. Maybe he's worth more."

As for Gamboa, who stopped Whyber Garcia in the fourth round Saturday night, Arum hopes that he'll fight Lopez in June — likely on the eve of the national Puerto Rican Day parade, a date that has traditionally gone to Lopez's countryman Miguel Cotto.

Gamboa, a former Olympic gold medalist who defected a few years ago, was downright indignant after his brutally efficient victory. Gamboa (16-0, 14 KOs) believed he should have received top billing on the card instead of Lopez, pointing to his sterling amateur record and his rapid rise since joining the professional ranks.

"I want to prove I am the best in the world," Gamboa said, when asked about facing Lopez. "Whoever thinks they are better than me, I want to fight them."

Gamboa is co-promoted by Top Rank and Germany-based Arena Box, which signed him after he fled Cuba with amateur teammates Odlanier Solis and Yan Barthelemy. That means a fight against Lopez would be easy to make.

"There have been discussions about fighting Juan Manuel Lopez," said Arena Box chief executive Ahmet Oner. "Why not? We'll take him."

Solis (15-0, 11 KOs) also appeared on the card Saturday night and made quick work of former heavyweight contender Monte Barrett, knocking him out in the second round. Arum sounded giddy about the future of the three-time world amateur and 2004 Olympic gold medalist, who came in at a rotund 271 pounds but looked sprightly on his feet.

"I'd be willing to put him in with anybody right now," said Arum, who has generally ignored boxing's most visible division over the years.

"I'm back in the heavyweight business," he added.

Thanks Merce ,I still havent been able to pick the winner of this fight yet

should be a great fight

I'll be rooting for Cotto, but who knows. I think all these so-called distractions that Pacs team keeps making public is a bunch of bullshit. Cotto's gotta make Pac respect him and pay for every shot he lands early in the fight, and he has a great jab so...jab,jab, and jab. Should be a FOTY candidate and much more competitive than the Floyd/JMM fight.

I only saw him live here in the States once, he put on a training exhibition in the Bronx a few days before he fought Judah. I've seen him a few times in the gym in Caguas PR, while visiting my sister.

Speaking of Cotto.....

wpaf22a26c.jpg

Margarito became the scourge of the boxing world at his last fight, a KO loss to Shane Mosley, when he was busted for cheating. Hardened plaster-like substances were found in his hand wraps, an extremely unethical, classless, and dirty action for the 3-time welterweight champ. Margarito was suspended for a year as a result. But that year is coming to a close.

The suspension is over come January 23rd and then Antonio plans to reapply for his boxing license. He then plans to make his return in either February or March.

Margarito is calling out Miguel Cotto for a rematch if Cotto can get past p4p #1 Manny Pacquiao on November 14th. Cotto has only lost once in his whole career, a submission to Margarito when his corner threw in the towel.

"I'd give Cotto a rematch. I think that fight will be good. The only loss he has is to me, and if he wants to remove that thorn from his side, then I will give him a second defeat," Margarito snidely said.

At the same time, Antonio made all new excuses for his loss to Mosley. According to him it's not because Mosley is a better fighter. And it's not because he didn't have the concrete in his gloves to hurt Shane with. "I had three or four pounds left to go, and then I was stuck. I struggled to make the weight. I trained like I always do, but ... what really messed me up was the weight," he has said is the real reason for his blowout loss to current welter champ Mosley.

Of course, there are still a few apologists out there who side with Antonio. They claim it was all his trainer's fault. They say that Margarito, a professional, shouldn't necessarily have known what was being put on his hands and in his gloves for one of the most important fights of his career. Then there others... many others... who say Margarito doesn't deserve to come back.

They believe the cheating against Mosley is proof of cheating in the past, most likely against Cotto. And they say Cotto should be the first guy to refuse ever fighting Margarito again, if for nothing else than to keep him from a payday. (I agree. Without those hand wraps, Margarito does not stop Cotto or break his face up completely and Cotto wins on points. Where was that devastating power against Daniel Santos? It wasn't 'til the Cintron fight that Margacheato suddenly became Earnie Shavers.:smh:)

The drama is about to start up all over again, so brace yourselves for hosts of articles and commentators going both ways on this issue. Come January 23rd Margarito will be all over the boxing news again, for better or for worse. The question is... what's next for Antonio "Cement Wraps" Margarito?

Fuck Margarito - Ban him for LIFE.

Berto Insults Mosley Via Twitter

wp3e92513e.jpg

"Shane Mosley Boy I will shread yo ass up. U poppin smack at the wrong one I am not floyd"

This was just one of the statements made by WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto who insulted current WBO champion Sugar Shane Mosley via his twitter account. He also said:

"His ol lady had the pants in the realationship now she's gone so he's startin to speak up like a big boy ha ha I see u Shane Mosley"

"U know what I don't even think I want to fight Shane Mosley u know he's know for takin them steroids prolly got some in his pocket now"

Now whether this is intended to create hype for a possible January fight with Shane or whether he really was annoyed at some of the comments made by Mosley concerning him are unclear.

Maybe he just wants to get under Mosley's skin in and hope he might abandon his gameplan come fight night.

In January Berto was ready to step in if Margarito pulled out of his bout with Mosley, now nearly a year on Berto has the chance to really make a name for himself by beating a big name in what is arguably the toughest weight division should the fight take place.

Agbeko Promises KO On Saturday

wpfca72ce2.jpg

Saturday night, live on Showtime, comes a card from Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas featuring in the main event Joseph 'King Kong' Agbeko (27-1-0, 22KOs) making the third defence of his IBF bantamweight championship against the undefeated Yonnhy Perez (19-0-0, 14KOs).

The card, co-promoted by Don King and Gary Shaw, also includes an interim WBC lightweight showdown between Antonio De Marco and Jose Alfaro and former undisputed welterweight champion Cory Spinks is back in action after almost seven months away from the ring.

'King Kong' Agbeko, a Ghanaian based in the Bronx, NY, is on a hot streak culminating in his recent victory, possibly the best win in his career so far, over former super-flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan. In what was a tight unanimous decision win for Agbeko, he outhustled and outlasted Darchinyan to upset the odds and keep hold of his title in what many viewed as an upset.

Agbeko won his title from Luis Alberto Perez over two years ago in September '07, forcing the Nicaraguan to quit after receiving some hefty punishment. Since then Agbeko has only fought twice - a hotly contested majority decision over another Nicaraguan William Gonzalez in December '08 and the aforementioned Darchinyan bout earlier this year, so will now be looking to get some momentum going and Perez could be just the opponent.

"When I make a promise I deliver" said Agbeko, "and I promise a knockout."

Perez, a native of Colombia but now living in California, earned his shot at the title by winning an elimination bout with South African Silence Mabuza. In what was a true show of grit, Perez travelled to South Africa and TKO'd the hometown fighter in the twelfth and final round in what was a huge ask for the Colombian. Now he travels to Vegas in what appears another huge test for his very first world title opportunity at the grand old age of 30, which is quite old for a lower weight fighter. Perez would probably argue that he doesnt have too many miles on the clock however, and with his undefeated record and relatively small number of fights he could be right.

As for what to expect - both men have an attacking mentality and neither lacks confidence, having proved everyone wrong in the past, so we should be in for an exciting fight between two of the top boxers in our sport, and rightly one of them should go on to even bigger and better things should they win.

wp3a798b8f.jpg

As already mentioned, in the chief supporting bout of the night Showtime regular Antonio De Marco (22-1-1, 16KOs) gets what many people would consider a somewhat undeserved shot at the interim WBC lightweight title.

The real champ, Edwin Valero, fights in only six weeks against Hector Velazquez so quite why they need an interim champ is unknown, but as we all know when it comes to sanctioning bodies, money overrules logic. We musnt let this detract from a potentially good fight however, although Alfaro, (23-4-0, 20KO's) has yet to fight in the United States so is somewhat of an unknown quantity, and again can't really lay any claim to a title shot. Barring a huge surprise De Marco should come through victorious.

Unlikely to make TV are several fighters worth watching, including Cory Spinks (37-5-0, 11KOs) making the first defence of his IBF title against Mexico's Carlos Molina (17-4-1, 5KOs), in what most would consider something of an in-between bout despite the title being on the line. Also, undefeated prospect James De La Rosa (19-0-0, 12KOs) facesLenin Arroyo (20-10-1, 4KOs) in what should be a relatively easy night for De La Rosa, and finally, a battle of two heavyweights with a combined age of 79, as DaVarryl Williamson and Ray Austin collide in a twelve round bout.

The card airs on Showtime Sports on Saturday October 31 at 9PM ET/PT.

I thought Direll beat Froch...Most of Froch's big punches did not put Andre in a bad position and Carl was easily frustrated by his style...While it may have been a bit sloppy, Direll looked more impressive than Froch. Plus, he shouldn't have gotten a point taken away since Froch was doing the same thing...

As far as it being a Euro showcase, it might be because two of the three on that side have the wins so far and Kessler is going against Ward in two weeks. IMO, Kessler and Abraham are the best in the bunch
