Man, that was a good-ass round.:) I wouldn't mind seeing a third fight. Holt rocked that kid beautifully, he didn't fight like no Derrick Gainer last noght, he should be more inclined to engage, he's got power and a questionable chin, thats a recipe for an exciting fighter. He's got all the ingredients to make some dough.

Didn't I say that Hatton/Pacquiao in 2009 was a possibility? :D

Hatton: "I Want De La Hoya or Pacquiao, Then Retire"
Posted by: Mark Vester on 07-04-2008

Ricky Hatton wants to end his career with a bang. He is pretty focused on facing IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in New York or Las Vegas in November, but if he wins, he wants to fight either WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao or former six-dvision champion Oscar De La Hoya in 2009. Hatton wants to have two more fights before retirement with the Pacquiao/De La Hoya bout being the last of his career.

"I don't want to go on forever and would have done everything I dreamed off, so two more fights and then I think I'm done," Hatton told BBC Sport. "I'll fight Paulie Malignaggi in November in Las Vegas again, so I'll be able to take my wonderful fans over there again and if I win that, then it'll be my eighth world title. In the New Year I'm hoping to fight either Manny Pacquiao or Oscar de la Hoya at Wembley Stadium in front of 100,000 people and after that I'll probably retire."

Pacquiao is probably returning in November against WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero, while De La Hoya is slated for the final bout of his career on December 6 in Las Vegas on HBO pay-per-view. De La Hoya is not expected to continue fighting beyond the December fight and had tried to secure Hatton for the date, but Manchester icon turned down the opportunity because he needed another fight to get ready for Oscar.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: For real!

I'd like to see a third fight tho, that first round had me seeing flashbacks of Hagler/Hearns. With that being said, Torres is an idiot, u got a 10-7 round going and you just lose it and go all out with zero defense - shit reminded me of Pavlik/Taylor 1. Yo Ready, what do u make of Floyd saying that the HBO announcing crew is mad biased toward white fighters, I'm feelin Flod for stepping up and saying it. I can't stand when they make these dudes out to be the next greatest fighter of their generation. As much as Floyd has let me down, I still have to say that nobody has been better in the last ten years of the sport. These announcers act like Pavlik is the next Hagler and that Calzaghe was better than RJ jr. in his prime, shit makes me sick.....that's why I loved Larry for this shit...

Couldn't agree with u more, since the early 1900's they've been searching for a great white hope, ever since Jack Johnson was whoopin those white boys asses and taunting the crowd. I respect Kelly much more than Joe because at least KP took on three real fighters last year and beat all three(Zartuche,Miranda,Taylor).

I mean but honestly, Calzaghe fought an unproven Lacy who showed that he didn't have as much potential as people thought, Kessler, who's never even fought in the States and gave a pretty good account of himself for a guy with a straight up European style, and sadly a B-Hop who just wasn't the same B-Hop who beat Winky and embarassed Tarver. To me Calzaghe is one of the most overrated fighters of the past ten years, now he wants to forgo a fight with Pavlik and head for old man Roy. Personally I think either Pavlik or Jermain Taylor(who i think everyone is sleeping on) would beat Calzaghe right now. He's a fast pittypat puncher who the White media has built up. This guy has never beaten an elite fighter in his prime. RJ jr. in his prime or James Toney in his prime would'v crushed this dude. Can u imagine him trying to pittypat James Toney to death, while Toney stuck his tongue out at him and used the ole' over the shoulder defense on him, it would've been pretty, or him trying to rush in on roy and getting caught with a bolt of lightening he never saw coming. Dude is overrated plain and simple. Other black boxers and boxers of other so-called minority groups should get behind what Floyd said because the man spoke truth.
I would also love to have the old man Merchant back in the booth as well, the old man called them like he saw them.

Pavlik is pretty good, but to base his skills on those three fighters is kind of sketchy...I did not see the Zartuche fight, but looking at his bouts against Miranda and Taylor, I had little to no doubt that he would lose to either fighter...IMO niether one of them has clearly won a significant fight in their careers yet...

:wepraise:

To this day, I scold myself for picking Lacy to beat Joe in his home turf...Jeff is still green when it comes to boxing skill...I should have saw that when I went to his fight against Robin Reid...Reid was overrated himself...

As far as I know, Joe's toughest fight was against Kessler and like you said, he's more of a linear fighter than most would see in other weight classes...Joe has been the only guy in the division who moves around the ring that has been in the title fights for that division. Bika, Bute, and Green haven't been in the forefront of the division, and Bute has the IBF title...Go figure...

And I still think that Calzaghe didn't do enough to beat the champ (B-Hop) to take his belt, but the prospect of Calzaghe-Jones was too big for the "money-makers" to pass up...I don't like Jones, but for once I would like to see him win this one.

For Floyd's comments, it would be interesting to watch his fights on HBO (ex. against Baldomir, Gatti, Bruseles, etc.) and check the commentary on that compared to Oscar's fights or Cotto (like his upcoming fight) or Arturo's and see what differeces occur. But in most cases it does not matter what color the fighter that's in the ring, it's who brings in the most money...

I agree with what u say about Kelly P, homie is not proven yet by any means, I'm just saying that his style of fighting and the way he was hurt in each of those three fights and came back to ko each dude was much more impressive than anything Calzaghe has done.

I don't know about Floyd's comments being based on the way HBO behaved during his fights. I think he was more or less trying to say that those white fighters get just as much praise or more than he and other great black fighters did and none of those guys can hold a candle to May on Floyds very worst day, the only guy that is in the process of proving that he might be on that level(but still has a lil' way to go) is Cotto because Pac still doesn't convince me, and they ain't white boy crakkas anyway. Now Oscar we know he makes so much money for everybody that their always going to kiss his ass. But I was watching some of Floyd's old fights on HBO and aside from the Hatton fight, they seemed to praise him as much as they could without sounding horribly biased. Larry Merchant seems to have the same attitude toward Floyd that I have. I think Larry believes that Floyd is one of the best he's seen but I also think Larry believes that Floyd doesn't want to fight the upper echelon welterweight becaue like Floyd said - he wants to retire from boxing and not have boxing retire him which in essence means he doesn't want to put himself in danger of blemishing his record, but he'll be back, when they throw enuff money out there.

As far as Calzaghe, he's never impressed me, I also think Kessler could've taken that fight, if u watch it again, anytime Mikkel started coming forward while throwing shots....Calzaghe retreated into a cocoon and stopped punching, Kessler just wasn't agressive enuff. I heard something about Tito possibly fighting Kessler at 168, ya'll know if there's any truth in that? That nigga Tito still trying to retire on a winning note.

So the big fight's only a couple weeks away ya'll, who ya'll leaning toward and why?

Well, Winky Wright agreed with him, which may give some type of validity to Floyd's statement. But something like that is pretty difficult to prove. I can't really compare the Pavlik/Lockett commentary to a Floyd/Baldomir one or a Hopkins/Eastman fight mainly because it takes a while to look at each of those...

Although I could do that for a weekend with all the footage that's out there and what I already have :D

For a while I thought Kessler had the upper hand (specifically from rd. 4 to rd. 7) but then Joe's dad told him to step up his activity, he did that and then Kessler's went down. That's when Joe took over the rest of the fight.

So the big fight's only a couple weeks away ya'll, who ya'll leaning toward and why?

While I think that Margarito can be more active in the clinch, I got Cotto in this one. To me the key to getting Cotto is to catch him dropping his guard to his body and getting some good head shots in, but you have to have some power behind it. Margs is a much better body puncher, and while he can do some damage to Cotto in the body, he doesn't have that chin-checker power to back Cotto up. On the latter side, Cotto does have that power. That's why I have Cotto...

Plus, if it goes to a decision, a Cotto/De La Hoya December card is too tantalizing to mess up :D:D:D

I c/s everything you said there tp, except for one thing, I'd say Cotto is the more effective body puncher over the long haul. He doesn't have that explosive power like Margarito or Tito who can just overwhelm your body or head with a couple blows, but I always look at the Quintana fight....I mean Carlos took the first couple rounds while Cotto studied him and got his game in order, but in a span of a round and a half, Cotto destroyed that ninjas body and face. Quintana looked like he'd been in a twelve round brawl after those two rounds. Cotto also has the advantage with boxing skills, though Margs has the reach and overall size advantage. It's gonna be a great fight. I too have Cotto in this one but I wouldn't be surprised or mad if Margs takes him. I agree, you have to check Cotto's chin, and watching his prior fights I think anybody who fights him is going to need to perfect their uppercut, the way Cotto guards his grill, it would be a very effective punch for either Antonio or Oscar. I think Cotto's boxing skills and jab are going to be the difference in the fight though. Yeah, I'd definitely rather see Cotto/Oscar than Oscar/Tito. If Cotto loses, do you think Oscar would be willing to fight Margarito? Or do u think he'll leave Margs alone and go after Tito at 165?

The Z-Man is coming

WBC #8-ranked super middleweight Fulgencio Zuniga (20-2-1, 17 KOs) will face former world title challenger Sebastien “Double Trouble” Demers (25-1, 9 KOs) - who is ranked #5 in the WBO, #12-IBF, and #14-WBA at middleweight - in the August 1st ESPN2 Friday Night Fights main event at Gare Windsor Salle des Pas Perdus in Montreal. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds in the super middleweight division and is promoted by Yvon Michel of GYM Promotions.

For Zuniga, this high-profile bout against Demers is overdue. In Oct 2005, Zuniga took on Kelly Pavlik, the current WBO\WBC middleweight champ. Zuniga floored Pavlik in the first round, but was eventually stopped on cuts in the ninth round. Pavlik has stated that Zuniga was his toughest opponent to date. After the Pavlik bout, Zuniga went on to beat hardcore veteran Jose Luis Zertuche (Sept 2006), former three-time world title challener Antwun Echols (June 2007), and in his last fight, he brutalized then-top contender Victor Oganov (Sept 2007). Oganov was a hot undefeated prospect with 26 wins and 26 knockouts before the “Z-Man” TKO’ed him in the ninth round. Zuniga has been unable to secure a big fight since his demolition of Oganov.

According to Alfredo Marchio, the promoter of Zuniga, other top contenders have been able to maneuver around his fighter. “Gary Lockett, Mahir Oral, Giovanni Lorenzo, and Jean Pascal all agreed to fight Fulgencio, but they pulled out for various reasons,” stated Marchio. Highly-ranked Jean Pascal was scheduled to fight Zuniga on June 6, but had to reschedule due to a shoulder injury. Pascal and Zuniga were to meet on the August 1 card, but Pascal opted to step aside and wait for a potential shot at the world title. “Yvon Michel made good on the agreement,” said Marchio. “I also give credit to Demers for stepping up and taking the fight. The Z-Man is coming!”

Klitschko-Thompson Update

A crowd of 3,000 spectators flocked to Karstadt Sports in Hamburg, Germany, yesterday to watch world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (50-3, 44 KO's) and challenger Tony Thompson (31-1, 19 KO's) in an open workout in Germany in a preview and final prep of Saturday night's world heavyweight championship. Thompson entered the ring first to a raucus atmosphere, and began a 15 minute workout. To the surprise of everyone in attendance, as Thompson's workout proceeded, Klitschko took a seat ringside to watch the challenger in the ring. Thompson said: "It's great to be back in Hamburg, a place that brings back great memories because I earned the biggest win of my career here last year against Luan Krasniqi. I won't go back to the states without the titles."

The heavyweight king was next, and the crowd roared in delight as Klitschko began his 30-minute regimen at Karstadt, the biggest dealer of sporting goods in Hamburg. Said Wladimir following his workout: "It feels great to fight in Hamburg again. This is the city where I started my career and now I come back as the champion. This is my second home and I won´t disappoint my fans on Saturday." The traditional weigh in will take place on Friday, also at Karstadt Sports (Mönckebergstr. 2, 20095 Hamburg, beginning at 12 pm (CET), and open to the public. HBO Sports will televise Klitschko vs. Thompson on Saturday, July 12, at 4:30 PM/ET, 1:30 PM/PT on World Championship Boxing.

Klitschko comments

World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko describes challenger Tony Thompson as a 'little bit special' as he prepares to defend of his IBF, WBO and IBO titles Saturday at the Color Arena in Hamburg. Speaking to Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour, the big Ukrainian said, "I will not underestimate this opponent. He hasn't lost in the last eight years. He's very confident. He's famous in Hamburg. He knocked out Luan Krasniqi spectacularly in their fight last year. He's an unorthodox fighter, he doesn't fight impressively, but he's very effective with his style. He is a southpaw fighter. I'll have to really adjust myself to his style."

Klitschko also commented on possible future foes David Haye and Alexander Povetkin. He described Haye as 'difficult to handle' and plans to teach him a lesson in 'behavior' should they meet in the ring. "I didn't know anything about this guy three months ago, then I got a chance to meet him in London. And that was a pleasant meeting but the guy is nuts." Meanwhile Klitschko said he was full of "respect" for Povetkin, but thinks he lacks experience. "He's Olympic champion, but not experienced enough to be in the professional ring," said Wlad. "But, of course, he is dangerous."

Although coming off a bad loss to Alfredo Angulo, Cortes insisted on returning against top opposition to see where he stands. A win over Julio, currently rated WBO #2, WBC/IBF #4, WBA #6, would get Cortes back into the title mix. "I have a month to train for this one," Cortes said. "I'll be ready."

"I just don't want a 'W,' I'd like it to be spectacular....I'll be ready for him." Plans call for Rahman to break his six-week camp on Sunday and head to Pechanga, three days prior to the fight. Toney, 39, has been training at the 360 Gym in Reseda, Calif. He has refused to take his usual profanity-laced shots at his opponent. "I'm not going to run my mouth," Toney insisted. "Just watch me in the ring. That is the only thing I will say to you."

The scheduled 12-round NABO heavyweight title bout -- presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions and Don King Productions, in association with Top Rank – will headline an FSN "Best Damn Fight Night" telecast (11PM ET/8PM PT) from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA. Tickets are $150, $100 and $50. Call 877-711-2WIN.

A few random things I heard today...

-Bob Arum may have a deal with Goosen for Kelly Pavlik to fight Paul Williams.

If that doesn't work out a second option for Pavlik would be to have Allan Green to move down to 160.

-Pacquiao's next fight will be on Nov 15 at the Planet Hollywood in Vegas

-On October 11, while HBO PPV will televise Mosley-Mayorga, Showtime will air Tarver-Dawson with a delay of Vitali-Klitschko also on the telecast.

-If Lacy gets by Mendoza in their upcoming fight, HBO will be pulling hard for a Lacy-Taylor matchup rather than the previously discussed Lacy-Froch bout.

That's it for now.

Cotto-Margarito Undercard

WBA #1 light flyweight Giovanni Segura (19-0-1, 15 KOs) and #2 Cesar Canchila (26-1, 21 KOs) will battle for the WBA interim light flyweight title on the July 26th Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito PPV card at the MGM Grand Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Abraham gets new belt

Three weeks after his IBF championship belt was stolen from his car at Miami International Airport following his impressive victory over Edison Miranda, manager Wilfried Sauerland surprised IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham with a special gift during a team dinner in Berlin, a new IBF belt. "I know how much the belt means to him so I tried very hard to get a new one," Sauerland said. "It's of big symbolic value to him. I was very impressed by his performance in Florida. I know he can beat every opponent everywhere." King Arthur was overwhelmed. "It is not the same to be world champion when you don’t have a belt. I spoke to Mr Sauerland a couple of days ago to find out when I could likely get a new one. He said that might take a while. Now I am really surprised and very happy about this special gift." Abraham also thanked his coach Ulli Wegner and all Team Sauerland members for their support. "It would have never been possible for me to clinch all those victories on my own. I am very grateful to have such a great team around me and thank everybody very much."
