I watched this one this afternoon on tubi. It’s the sequel to “Dolemite” that I reviewed earlier.

The movie plays out like the first and is just as funny. The last 20 minutes is an all out fight sequence with Dolemite against goons with him doing his fake Kung-Fu.

Synopsis

A fat rhymer (Rudy Ray Moore) flees to California, where he helps a madam (Lady Reed) and her female fighters battle a local gangster.

From what my sources have told me, his offspring said the key to a happy life is to go as RAW as possible with the baddest of heaux this world has to offer.

And apparently, on a completely unrelated note, Superman himself used to lurk on BGOL and WGOL and once knocked out Borski in a knockdown, bloody 12-round championship fight. They were fighting over the love of some Playboy Playmate, or Penthouse Pet, from what I understand.

Rest in peace, C. Reeve.

Friend or Foe

PRAISE: Giving this film a great foundation to work with and build on in a story about Tensions flaring in the near future aboard the International Space Station as a worldwide conflict breaks out on Earth was one of the great ideas the movie comes up with. The cast including Chris Messina, Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, and Tony winner John Gallagher, Jr. as the American crew, and Masha Mashkova (“For All Mankind”), Costa Ronin (“The Americans”), and Pilou Asbæk (“Game of Thrones”) as the Russian crew all do well in their roles, displaying tension, anger and frustration. Director: Gabriela Cowperthwaite does so well blending tension, panic and suspense, it's not only in the characters faces but the remote setting itself with the quiet coldness of space, and the confined spaces within the space station. The film plays with the word trust that sets things off balance just enough to keep the suspense alive. With a backdrop of an ever changing Earth it adds to the films tension and suspense. There is a haunting feel to the whole film especially when things really get going.

PROBLEMS: Due to its ninety minute run time there is not much character development and this definitely would have made me feel more for the characters. I did question something that happens in the films last thirty minutes. I sat there trying to make sense of it but in the end I concluded it just didn't fit into what a character did.

The Kitchen

Societal Sins

PRAISE: Actor Daniel Kaluuya and Kibwe Tavares, directorial debut The Kitchen paints a picture of a bleak dystopian future but also reflects what is happening presently in small portions around the world. The story about Izi close to escaping The Kitchen, one of London's last remaining housing estates. But when young Benji enters his life, things change. One of the best things about the story is about the bond that grows between Izi and Benji,it has its highs and lows and wavers at times. As Izi (Kane Robinson) and Benji (Jedaiah Bannerman) display plenty of raw emotion as they not only try to figure out where they stand with each other while battling and literally running from being pushed out of where they live. Another great thing is how reflective it is. I think of neighborhoods slowly fading away and are bogged down by towering condominiums and places of business and forcing the hands of those who live in the aforementioned neighborhoods as it is well displayed in a couple of the movies action sequences. Benji is pulled in different ways in the film, remain with a father figure he's not sure of or with someone going down a dangerous path who is overcome with anger. Kaluuya and Tavares do well displaying how people just want to live and do better for themselves. Even as Izi hustles at a new wave mausoleum I rooted for him because he is yearning for something better.

PROBLEMS: The pacing definitely could have been better as I felt the movie was to dwelling at times. Some portions of the movie are spelled out to a T and predictable. I think there were a couple of gaps in the story that needed to be filled especially when it came to a characters future, survival and path in life.

Mission: Impossible
1996

5.5/10

The last time I watched this flick was in the late 90s when it came on HBO. My two sons had seen 5 and 6 and were interested in seeing the recent one debuting on Paramount+ this Friday. So we started watching them last night. I left for the road and will watch the rest there while they watch them at home on Paramount+.

I had completely forgotten what the film was about and who was in it. I was surprised to see Emilio Estevez co-Star in it working with the IMF team.

The plot is nothing fantastic and fits in with all the other 80s/90s action flicks of the era. The one thing that made the story standout was seeing Tom Cruise “Ethan Hawke” transformation from a wisecracking jokester to a serious agent. That’s the main highlight of the film.

VFX/SFX is ok for the time period it came out.

I should get the other films done this week hopefully.

Synopsis

When U.S. government operative Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his mentor, Jim Phelps (Jon Voight), go on a covert assignment that takes a disastrous turn, Jim is killed, and Ethan becomes the prime murder suspect. Now a fugitive, Hunt recruits brilliant hacker Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and maverick pilot Franz Krieger (Jean Reno) to help him sneak into a heavily guarded CIA building to retrieve a confidential computer file that will prove his innocence.

Mission: Impossible 2
2000

5.5/10

I watched this last night on the road on Paramount+. I last saw it when it debuted on HBO back then.

Not much to the movie with the plot. Like the first, it runs similar to the 80s/90s action thrillers.

What stands out is actress Thandie Newton. I completely forgot how fine this bird was back then. There is one scene she is wearing a grey t-shirt and those perky C-Cup Titties are pointing straight out trying to bust thru that shirt. I had to pause and rewind to soak it in. HaHa!!!.

Not much for action in this flick either.

Synopsis

Tom Cruise returns to his role as Ethan Hunt in the second installment of "Mission: Impossible." This time Ethan Hunt leads his IMF team on a mission to capture a deadly German virus before it is released by terrorists. His mission is made impossible due to the fact that he is not the only person after samples of the disease. He must also contest with a gang of international terrorists headed by a turned bad former IMF agent who has already managed to steal the cure.

South to Black Power
2023

7.5/10

I watched this one this past weekend on MAX. It debuted last November on MAX.

What’s discussed in this documentary is a subject that has been brought up over the past 20 years about Blacks in America migrating back to the Southern Eastern States to establish political and economic power.

It’s created and hosted by NY Times Columnist Charles Blow.

The movie discusses the pros and some cons on the subject by the host and people from communities outside of the South and in the South. Good points are brought up.

The downside of this documentary is that it needs to be done in a short series going more in-depth on topics of politics, economics, education and other issues that need to be addressed before any action of migration could take place.

It’s an informative film and it does get you to think.

Synopsis

Author and columnist Charles M Blow advocates for a 'reverse Great Migration', calling for African Americans to move to the South to upend the political power structure and reclaim the land and culture they left behind.

Mission: Impossible III
2006

7/10

Watched this one this evening on Paramount+.

This one was way better than the first two combined. Lots of action, decent suspense.

Ethan gets married and is retired and training new IMF agents. But then he gets pulled back into duty.

The late Philip Seymour Hoffman does a good job as the Bad Guy.

Overall, this film was much entertaining and kept you glued to the screen.

Synopsis

Retired from active duty, and training recruits for the Impossible Mission Force, agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) faces the toughest foe of his career: Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), an international broker of arms and information, who is as cunning as he is ruthless. Davian emerges to threaten Hunt and all that he holds dear -- including the woman Hunt loves.

This is an action thriller I watched last night on Hulu.

The film is from Australia. Not much for action or suspense. I was expecting more being the main character is supposed to be ex-Special Forces. I wasn’t expecting “Rambo”, but more should have happened.

The premise has been done before, no surprises there. Dialogue is rough cuz of the actors heavy Australian accent.

Overall, it’s just something to watch. The trailer is what got me curious.

Also, Hulu seems to be a dumping ground for unreleased theatrical films put out by big studios. And the films are starring well known A-List and B-List actors. I’m surprised on how many films are uploaded on a weekly basis on Hulu.

Synopsis

A former Special Forces operative is thrust into the criminal underworld in a bid to prevent his only son from being taken from him.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
2011

7/10

I just finished watching this one this evening.

Like the first one, they kicked in with the action and thrills to keep you glued to the screen. It’s pretty clear they learned from the first 2 films.

They had a scene with Ethan in the Kremlin. I have been watching the original “Mission Impossible” series on Paramount+ and a recent episode I saw, they had used the same type of hologram device in the series as in this film. It was interesting seeing the difference on how they displayed the tech in the series from what you see in the film. If you are interested in seeing it is in Season 4 Episode 16 titled “The Falcon Part 3”.

VFX/SFX has improved from the first 3 films.

Overall it’s an entertaining film. The recent “Dead Reckoning” debuts tomorrow on Paramount+, I plan on being home Fri/Sat to reset my clock and watch it on the big screen TV. Looking forward to it after watching the next film in the series hopefully tomorrow.

Synopsis

Blamed for a terrorist attack on the Kremlin, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the entire IMF agency are disavowed by the U.S. government, while the president initiates the Ghost Protocol. Forced to go "off the grid" -- left without resources or backup -- Hunt must somehow clear the agency's name and prevent another attack. Complicating matters even more, Ethan must undertake the impossible mission with a group of fellow IMF fugitives whose actual motives are suspect.

Cult Killer

Boring to Bloody

PRAISE: I have to praise the movie for having that 90s find the Killer vibe
This story about Cassie Holt (Alice Eve) an alcoholic survivor of abuse who meets private eye Mikeal Tallini (Antonio Banderas) trained by him she then takes on case of her own has a better second half. Shelley Hennig and Olwen Fouéré have the most watchable and standout performances in the movie. They both breathe much needed life into the movie. In it's second half when sinister and sadistic characters are included, nice one liners and some gore are all blended in its really a fun and insane time. Eve and Banderas have a couple of good moments but I thought they were sidelined by the aforementioned actors.

PROBLEMS: The constant flashbacks just make the dull moments in the film even more boring. I think if the movie had been structured in a different way and taken a couple of characters on a more linear path the story would have been more interesting. When you take a movie that's supposed to be a thriller and you find the right mode it's better if you stay in that mode but this movie decides to keep halting the action and insane moments to drift back to parts of the story that are sleep inducing and then some. Part of the plot of this movie has been told better in T.V shows most recently in the series Crime on Britbox.

The entertaining Statham movie we haven't gotten lately.

Cool action, a good villain and a decent plot. Seems pretty simple and easy to make a entertaining if not good movie, but there seems to be more misses than hits.

I forgot it was Rated R, then you quickly learn. Nice opening to get you invested.

Cool to see Claire Huxtable.

To Catch a Killer
2023

6.5/10

I watched this last night on Hulu. This showed up on my recommendations recently and the trailer looked interesting.

The premise of this film has been done before, the difference is it has a female lead. It is done well with good performances by the actors.

This obviously was a film produced to be released in theaters. I say that because of how it is filmed. The film quality is way above what non-theatrical released films look like. Camera shots/angles look great and the overall film stands out visually.

For the Pervs, the lead actress has a scene of her sitting on the toilet taking a leak.

For the Thirsty, Shailene Woodley looks like shit thru-out the film, but her MAGA Ass still looks good for a Ol’ Fashioned Hate Fuck session.

For the Gay Agenda Trackers, Ben Mendelsohn is openly gay and married, nothing is shown.

Synopsis

A troubled police officer is recruited by the FBI's chief investigator to help profile and track down a disturbed individual terrorizing Baltimore, Maryland.
