7/10

I watched this last night on the road.

Again like the last film, it kicked Ass with action, fight sequences, car/motorcycle chases and SFX/VFX.

The film continues on from the last film revolving around “The Syndicate” plot. The original series had debuted the Syndicate in season one and they popped up periodically. I’m on Season 5 with the series and so far they haven’t gone in-depth on who they are and their agenda the way this and the last film portrayed them.

Paramount+ has the last film uploaded now. I plan on getting home later this afternoon/tonight, depending on traffic back to Vegas. I plan on watching the last film tomorrow Or Sunday at home on the big screen TV. Give my review after.

Synopsis

Ethan Hunt and the IMF team join forces with CIA assassin August Walker to prevent a disaster of epic proportions. Arms dealer John Lark and a group of terrorists known as the Apostles plan to use three plutonium cores for a simultaneous nuclear attack on the Vatican, Jerusalem and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. When the weapons go missing, Ethan and his crew find themselves in a desperate race against time to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

The Return of the Pink Panther
1975

7.5/10

I watched the first two Pink Panther films and reviewed them earlier this month. I watched the 3rd one tonight on the road on MAX.

This film is definitely a better film than the first two. Peter Sellers went all out with the physical humor and sight gags from beginning to end.

Comedy is done like a live-action cartoon. Thru-out the movie you can easily see how they copied from classic Looney Tunes cartoons.

This is the 2nd PP film revolving around the diamond. This film also does not show the flaw in the diamond with the Pink Panther as described in the films it has been in. The diamond is shown, but not the flaw.

One of things that is interesting is watching the other actors around Peter Sellers trying to keep a straight face when he does his bits, there is a couple of scenes where actors slightly hold back a grin. Actress Catherine Schell has two scenes with PS, the first she just busts out laughing and hides behind the door facing the camera laughing. She busts out laughing in a later scene. It’s obvious they did a large number of retakes with her and they just finally gave up and took the best ones for the film.

The film does a remix of the classic song in the opening credits. The closing credits has the Pink Panther interacting with a character from the film.

I was impressed with this flick.

Synopsis

After he lets a robbery transpire right under his nose, the ever-bumbling Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) is suspended by Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Herbert Lom). But, when the famed Pink Panther diamond is stolen from the National Museum in Lugash, the Shah requests Clouseau's assistance, and he's reinstated. Clouseau quickly concludes that the thief must be the infamous Phantom, against whom he has a grudge, but the inspector's instincts are, as usual, wrong.

I watched this one this evening. I had watched one of the earlier films on tubi I watched/reviewed and my recommendations showed this film and a sequel.

I never knew a sequel film had been made. Being I can’t remember when the last time I saw this flick and somewhat forgot what happened, I decided to watch it again to refresh before watching the sequel.

This is a sleeper cult classic. It’s a basic retelling of the children’s story “Little Red Robin Hood”. It’s done in a darker and somewhat comedic way for adults.

It does a good job of depicting people who are in the bottom levels of American society. Reese Witherspoon does a funny job of being a Ratchet White Girl.

If you enjoy films depicting White people with Fucked up lives, this is your film.

The original OG GILF pornstar Kitty Foxx has a small cameo.

For the militants, there is BM/WW interracial, all is shown is PDA.

Synopsis

Following the arrest of her mother, Ramona (Amanda Plummer), young Vanessa Lutz (Reese Witherspoon) decides to go in search of her estranged grandmother. On the way, she is given a ride by school counselor Bob Wolverton (Kiefer Sutherland). During the journey, Lutz begins to realize that Bob is the notorious I-5 Killer and manages to escape by shooting him several times. Wounded but still very much alive, Bob pursues Lutz across the state in this modern retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
2023

7.5/10

I watched this last night at home with my sons on Paramount+.

This film really impressed me with the action, thrills and suspense.

I liked how there was a straight 30+ minutes of action giving you a rush, then abruptly bringing the pace of the film down. It was like coming off a roller coaster.

The film gave a different spin on AI technology. They mainly took the plot from “Colossus: The Forbin Project” and modernized it.

Hopefully the next film debuts next year. I will rewatch this one before watching the next film.

Looking forward to it.

Synopsis

Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than the mission -- not even the lives of those he cares about most.

5.5/10

I watched this one this morning.

The premise of the film has been done routinely over the past 20 years, what makes this one different is it revolves around the Hasidic Jewish community. Majority of the time films like this revolves around Roman Catholic Christianity .

It’s loaded up with the predictable jump scares, nothing new there.

The Entity looks pretty decent from the quick shots we get of it.

The film left off for potential sequels, obviously. Going by the opening prelude, the Entity operates thru all religions/faiths. If there are sequels they should revolve around non-Christian faiths like Hindu, Islam and Buddhist. If Christianity is used, possibly do it under certain denominations like Mormon or Greek Orthodox.

Synopsis

The son of a Hasidic funeral director returns home with his pregnant wife in hopes of reconciling with his father. Little do they know that an ancient evil lurking inside a mysterious corpse has sinister plans for their unborn child.

Lolita

8.5/10

I just watched this film this afternoon on tubi.

This film is probably ranked in the top 10 controversial films of the 20th Century due to its subject matter. It’s a classic film based off a popular novel.

I looked into it and because of censorship standards of the US Motion Picture Association. they were unable to go as hardcore or even close as to what’s described in the book. Legendary director Stanley Kubrick directed and was involved with the screenplay.

Kubrick did an amazing job of handling the subject with light humor. He also uses a lot of dialogue and imagery/visuals that are not graphic to show how explicit scenes and the story are. The actors performance in some scenes give hints. Kubrick uses signage, like with the name of the girl’s SleepAway camp. He also has actors in the background in a number of scenes doing certain things in a sexual nature, but not explicit or graphic. See if you can spot them.

The book has the girl at 12 years old. Kubrick actually used a 14 year old actress who plays a 14 year old in the role of Lolita. She handles the role perfectly and does a good job for what her character has to do.

For the Foot Fiends, the opening credits roll will blow your mind. Make sure you are alone watching it. There also is a toenail painting scene with Lolita.

For the Pervs, the film has a subtle pervy tone to it in a number of scenes. Nothing is graphic, but if you are a Perv, you will get the references.

For the Thirsty, the actress playing Lolita looks similar to singer Billie Eilish (If Billie Eilish took the time to clean herself up and look like a lady).

Peter Sellers co-stars. There is a couple of scenes he does which clearly shows why Stanley Kubrick got him cast for “Dr. Strangelove” which came out two years later.

tubi has a clean, remastered copy.

Synopsis

With a screenplay penned by the author himself, Stanley Kubrick brings Vladimir Nabokov's controversial tale of forbidden love to the screen. Humbert Humbert (James Mason) is a European professor who relocates to an American suburb, renting a room from lonely widow Charlotte Haze (Shelley Winters). Humbert marries Charlotte, but only to nurture his obsession with her comely teenage daughter, Lolita (Sue Lyon). After Charlotte's sudden death, Humbert has Lolita all to himself -- or does he?

I watched this one this afternoon on the free streaming service PLEX.

It’s put out and made by legendary cult director Russ Meyers. Russ loved big natural boobs and he has them in this flick.

The plot is simple, acting is terrible, editing and continuity sucks.

What saves it are the scenes of big natural boob women bouncing around and topless. There’s lots of cleavage and limited full nudity.

Legendary 60s/70s model Uschi Digard is in it. We see her boobs fully exposed and she does simulated sex scenes. Christy Hartburg co-stars and she is built like a brick house. She is on the movie poster below. You may be familiar with Christy in a classic gif from this film, that has been posted on various message boards over the years. Richard Pryor’s ex wife Deborah Mcquire costars and does a simulated sex scene. Two other big boob models from the era co-star.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, two scenes showing a WM and BM dick. If you blink you will miss them.

If you are a fan of Russ Meyers, you will enjoy this film.

Synopsis

A man falsely accused of killing his wife encounters one busty babe after another until he meets a super siren.

The Book of Clarence

Farce & Faith

PRAISE: TBOC is part comedy and satire. The story about Clarence living in A.D. 33 Jerusalem who looks to capitalize on the rise of Jesus Christ, by claiming to be a new Messiah sent by God, in an attempt to free himself of debt and start a life of glory for himself borrows a bit from the movies Barabbas and History of the World. The cast that was assembled for this movie is impressive LaKeith Stanfield, Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Micheal Ward, Alfre Woodard, Teyana Taylor, Caleb McLaughlin, and Eric Kofi-Abrefa and there are good performances from the cast.
I started to quickly recall the classic sword and sandal epics the movie nicely nods to. Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield) is a con man and a gambler but I'm glad they didn't make his character a coward. I thought his personal problems connected to his brother and his romance with Varinia all tied to trying to reach his goals in life were well played.
The infusion of modern day themes and terminology works here and there in the movie and it's also very funny at times.
I did appreciate the films messages about unwarranted hate and having strong faith. The dramatic moments in the film worked well for me and for the most part were actually moving.

PROBLEMS: The fact that Clarence is such a well known con man and his friends are also well known waters down a certain turning point in the movie. As the movie entered its last thirty minutes I could start to see how the movie just had to many ingredients in its pot making it boil over and what remained loses its flavor. The shift in tones became more obvious and jarring. Some things that occur in the latter part of the film should have been placed in the middle to give the movie more impact.

Side note:
Did I think the movie was blasphemous?
Not at all. There is no actual narrative from the Bible in the movie. The focus is on a man who lacks FAITH but seeks to find purpose. It's nothing that I have not seen before and done in animation, graphic novels and other satirical media.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

Past Lives

Common Connections

PRAISE: I think a lot of people have been down the paths the characters in this movie go down and that's one of the reasons it's so good. The story is about Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrest apart after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea. Decades later, they are reunited. I thought the three leads were great.Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and Arthur John Magaro perfectly capture the emotions of a what could have been couple and a married couple. Director Celine Song knows how to capture the awkwardness of everything that happens in this movie. It's in the uncomfortable silences, the meet ups and a true third wheel moment. The connection of calling talking everyday but it's still not enough which leads to the long distance longing and the long distance why bother. Also well brought out is how life moves forward even though the love and care is there the realism of a person evolving and becoming a part of another country and even another person happens !!

PROBLEMS: The movie is dry and meanders here and there definitely should have better pacing

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8½

The Black Six
1974

4.5/10

I have been sitting on this saved on tubi for over a year and finally got around to watching it. I couldn’t remember why I saved it and got refreshed on it when I Googled it.

The film stars former big name Black NFL players and other athlete's from the 60s/70s, it’s why I had saved it.

The premise of the film is nothing new for the era. It’s full of bad acting, editing, sound and everything else that can make a movie bad.

The Black Six ride motorcycles too small for them, they should have been on Harley Davidson Fat Boys. Especially Joe Green’s huge Ass.

There is only 3 scenes that stand out. Not gonna spoil it but two are in the beginning at the farm (pay attention to the White Lady), when they stop at a truck stop and the last 10 minutes of the film.

Everything else is just a waste of time. The film could have been a classic if these cats just spent their time kicking Racist White Boyz Ass’ thru-out the South.

For the Militants, the film revolves around an interracial BM/WW couple, all that is shown is PDA.

This film definitely needs to be remade correctly with recent NFL retirees like Marshawn Lynch and Warren Sapp.

tubi has a grainy un-remastered copy.

Synopsis

Righteous biker Bubba (Gene Washington) and his five war buddies go south to avenge his slain brother.

Got a funny movie review for you. This one's from my dad on the phone. He watched it (or parts of it) with his GF over the weekend, lol.

To paraphrase him ...

"Yeah ... so we watched the movie Wander. I like both the lead actors. But after 10 - 20 mins it sort of felt like a cheap version of The X-Files. And you know me ... it's not really my thing. Science fiction and all that."

Me - "So did you just turn it off and watch something else?"

Dad - "Well shit ... we were already sort of invested. So I said let's just fast-forward to the last 20 minutes and see how it plays out. So we watched the first 20 mins. And the last 20 mins. Take it for what it's worth ..."
