I rewatched and reviewed the first film earlier in this thread. I watched this one last night on the road on Hulu.

I assumed I had seen this, but while watching it I realized I never saw this film for whatever reason.

The film moves at the same pace as the first. In this sequel we get some insight on Robert’s backstory.

The actor who recently played “RZA” in the recent Hulu Wu-Tang series. He basically does the same acting he used for RZA.

Not much for action except for the last 15 minutes of the film.

Netflix has the 3rd film, I will get to it…whenever…

Synopsis

If you have a problem and there is nowhere else to turn, the mysterious and elusive Robert McCall will deliver the vigilante justice you seek. This time, however, McCall's past cuts especially close to home when thugs kill Susan Plummer -- his best friend and former colleague. Now out for revenge, McCall must take on a crew of highly trained assassins who'll stop at nothing to destroy him.

Watched Miller's Girl a few days ago given all the poor reviews in recent weeks. Still trying to decipher if it was a "good bad movie" or not.

There were certain elements that I liked (or didn't mind). The friendship with Ortega and her classmate "Winnie". Martin Freeman and fellow teacher Bashir Salahuddin as "Boris Fillmore". Winnie had some of the funnier moments with her inappropriate comments.

The controversial scene about 2/3 the way through the movie doesn't amount to much, and is fairly cringe.

One of the most accurate lines in the movie is in the latter half when one character notes to be weary of teenage girls as they can be "dangerous" and "emotionally abusive".

Much of the dialogue doesn't feel natural though as it's too literature / academia-based. Felt more like an older college setting, as opposed to that of a high school.

Little back story on Ortega's character, and little to nothing about other students aside from Ortega as "Cairo Sweet" and Gideon Adlon as "Winnie".

I watched this for the first time at home tonight with my two sons on Disney+.

The film somewhat picks up from the after credit scene of the “Ms. Marvel” series.

Not going to go into detail being I’m the last person on the board who has seen this flick.

While watching it, it didn’t come off as a movie but more the 2nd season of “Ms. Marvel with how it was presented. Being there were 3 Marvels, they crammed their stories into this short film. A 9 episode series would have allowed more character development between the 3. Also, not enough time was given towards Dar-Been. The only thing good was showing her use the Ultimate Weapon unlike what they had done with Ronan the Accuser.

The 2 parts of the film that had me scratching my head was them arriving on that planet where everyone sings/dance. I was staring at the screen and me and my sons were sitting there with blank looks. The other was with the cats on the space station sucking up the workers to evacuate the facility. Me and sons were puzzled with that one too. All of that probably would have worked if it was a series, but for a movie…those scenes just didn’t work.

The Skrulls, they still were being depicted as a bunch of wimps in this film. I’m still not sure where they are going with them, especially now that the Fantastic Four is coming into the MCU and the Skrulls have a long history of dealing with them, especially with the Super Skrull.

The after credit scene looks to be bringing the X-Men into the MCU from the Multi-Verse.

Other than that, it was entertaining. It falls in the category of “See It Once, No Interest In Seeing It Again”.

Synopsis

Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. However, unintended consequences see her shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with two other superheroes to form the Marvels.

They didn't even try with this. The storyline is stupid. I know all the actresses were excited to get a comic book movie, but this ain't even Shazam where you're going to get at least one sequel. Don Johnson's daughters acting left a lot to be desired. She said the rent is due, and I need a check.

Anyone catch at the beginning they were eating cup of noodles with chopsticks out of the Chinese containers. I was like no these muthafuckas aren't

It was so many weird and funny scenes I was entertained. The girls dancing on the table in the middle of a restaurant. Acting all fast.

The chick becoming Professor X all of a sudden. I was like wait, what. Ya'll really went from 0 to 100. That chair cost more than her whole crib :smh:

They gave up and said fuck it. It is what it is. We're putting this out, no reshoots, fucked up editing and dialogue.

Checked out The Underdoggs yesterday evening and enjoyed it.

Some funny quotables throughout and had a modern day Bad News Bears sports movie feel to it.

The best moments in my opinion were the football drills, the unveiling of their uniforms with a great assortment of nicknames, pool scene, and the general banter between Snoop & the kids (Game of Thrones talk, insults, etc).

Looked like they had a fun time filming too. Liked seeing the end credits with lots of pictures showing Snoop's involvement in youth football dating back to the early-2000s too.

I watched this one yesterday afternoon at home on tubi.

If you are familiar with the cult classic “Cube” films (All 3 of them are on tubi), this movie follows a similar premise.

It kicks into gear about 5 minutes into the film with the woman trapped in the maze. She goes thru a bunch of obstacles trying to get out.

For the InCells, if you hate women and want to see a White Woman being tormented, tortured and abuse. You will enjoy this film.

For the Foot Fiends, plenty of shots of WW feet thru-out the movie.

The ending isn’t impressive, it’s one of those films where I think they left it to the viewers interpretation.

The film is from France. English is mainly spoken, when French is spoken, subtitles are used.

I just watched this film tonight.

This movie is basically a retelling of the classic novel. It doesn’t follow the original novel or movies that have been done in the past.

About the only thing that happens in the film is the astronaut trying to get acclimated to the planet he is stranded on. Thru-out the film are flashbacks giving insight on his character.

It’s a low budget B-Movie. VFX/SFX look like something from a film school project.

Synopsis

A simple fly-by soon turns into an emergency crash landing, leaving a man and his dog stranded on an unforgiving planet with impending death lurking all around them.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
2013

6/10

I watched this film last night on Paramount+ with my sons. We watched the first one earlier that I reviewed last week in this thread.

The film picks up from the final events that happened in the first film.

With the G.I. Joe characters, only Duke and Snake Eyes from the first film were in this one. The Rock took the lead role as Roadblock.

The film like the first had decent action sequences. VFX/SFX looked good.

The late Ray Stevenson co-stars as Firefly. RZA co-stars as some type of Black Asian Martial Arts master. He is more comical than intended.

Overall, it’s an entertaining film.

Synopsis

In the continuing adventures of the G.I. Joe team, Duke (Channing Tatum), second-in-command Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), and the rest of the Joes (D.J. Cotrona, Lee Byung-hun) face a two-fold threat. Not only is their mortal enemy COBRA rearing its ugly head again, but there is also a threat from within the U.S. government: There might be an impostor in the White House. Meanwhile, Snake Eyes (Ray Park) is on a search for inner peace but learns that his nemesis, Storm Shadow, is still alive.

I watched this last night with my sons on tubi.

It’s a low budget film about mainly about slavery and how young black people are unaware of it.

It’s not a hardcore film depicting the hardships of slavery on Blacks, but the film does a decent job of getting the point across. The only violent scenes are 2 whippings of Black men. The actual whipping is not shown, just the physical wounds after are shown.

If you looking for a decent PG-13 movie about slavery to watch with your children under the age of 10 where you don’t have to constantly hit pause and explain what is going on. This film will do.

Synopsis

A street-smart Detroit teenager (Phill Lewis) wakes up in 1822 South Carolina and is taken for a slave.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins
2021

5/10

I watched and reviewed the first 2 films in the movie thread. Me and my sons watched this one tonight.

The film gives the origin of Snake Eyes along with Storm Shadow. I’m kinda thrown off right now cuz in the first G.I. Joe film, they showed the two as young boys meeting up. This film has them meeting as adults. I looked into it and this film is the official reboot of the franchise. The first two films no longer count.

The movie mainly plays out like a thriller than a action/adventure. VFX/SFX are done well along with action and fight sequences.

The plot is nothing different from what you are familiar with from old school 70s Kung-Fu flicks.

The mid-credit scene officially introduces Cobra into the franchise. And with the after credits scene in the last Transformers film, at some point in the future they will be bringing them together.

Overall, it’s a entertaining film.

Synopsis

An ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage welcomes tenacious loner Snake Eyes after he saves the life of their heir apparent. Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach him the ways of the ninja warrior while also providing him something he's been longing for: a home. However, when secrets from Snake Eyes' past are revealed, his honor and allegiance get tested -- even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him.

The Zone of Interest

Oblivious Zone

PRAISE: This film about The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife, Hedwig, striving to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp is right up there with any other harrowing film, book graphic novel and documentary about The Holocaust I've ever watched or read.
Sandra Hüller, has the standout performance as Hedwig. She tries to be as oblivious as she can be as she indulges in the pleasures of her home even though horrific things are happening right next door. But in one telling scene visually you can see that she knows her casual attitude about everything happening around her is wrong. Her husband Rudolf (
Christian Friedel) is no better in a stunning and unnerving scene in which he talks about killing people to her as if he's making up a shopping list. There are several standout moments like this but what director Jonathan Glazer puts together visually easily surpasses what is said by the people in the film. Even what he does audibly rattled my nerves. What Hitler ingrained into the hearts and minds of those he deemed superior is definitely brought out in the film. Even when speaking of people that the characters were once associated with but are now in the concentration camp are easily dismissed. I encourage everyone to read the story behind the characters in the film because it's very interesting. Sobering imagery right down to the last frame.

PROBLEMS: There is some foreshadowing in the film that I truly wish had played out in the film. The film definitely has a bit of a slow pace here and there.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8

Drive-Away Dolls

Detour after Detour

PRAISE: This movie reminds me of all of the 2 a.m ,can't sleep or just woke up to movies I've watched over the years. There's not much to it but there's enough likeable faces in it to keep me interested. The story about two women embarking on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, Fla. However, things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way. Ethan Coen continues to try to go at it sans his brother Joel and create something outside their brotherly partnership and I admire him for doing so. I also admire the cast including
Cast: Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, Joey Slotnick, C.J. Wilson, Colman Domingo, Pedro Pascal, Bill Camp and Matt Damon committing fully to their roles that include raunchiness and salty dialogue. There are some funny visuals and Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan are the standouts and have nice moments together.

PROBLEMS: To much of the movie feels like filler and with such a short running time that's a big no no.Margaret Qualleys southern accent is way over the top.
If the psychedelic moments were taken out plus minus the credits this movie would have been barely over sixty minutes. There are so many scenes in which I felt the characters were waiting for their que to make a monolog. The character development is extremely low and the film needed more time and it was missing some key hurdles to make it more believable that an easy resolution wasn't staring the characters in the face.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 5

Mea Culpa

Jagged w/o Edge

PRAISE: Though the plot has been done before in good films like Jagged Edge the smart attorney falls for their client even though something is a bit off about him or her. Tyler Perry manages to insert some new life into the genre.....even though very briefly. He sets up a good foundation of character as singer-actor Kelly Rowland as Mea Harper, a Chicago defense attorney, takes on accused of murdering his girlfriend client Zyair (Trevante Rhodes) She has marital problems and familial ones but pushes on through.
I bought into her determination and laser focused manner with her client even though he slowly but surely attempts to seduce her. The acting from the two leads was pretty good at the beginning of the movie. Good soundtrack. It's beautifully shot.

PROBLEMS: After the first Fourty minutes I stopped buying into the seduction and how conveniently things were set up in the story. A couple of things happen and a character is supposed to be smitten and then some. The funny thing is Perry is usually somewhat better at setting up seduction for one of his characters but this time around it just feels like Mea is reacting out of anger instead of lust.
There are plot holes when it comes to the evidence against Zyair one part was possible but the other didn't make any sense or left me thinking how did they get that part of the evidence ?!? Other problems are things that happen in the film just by chance, instead of coming up with something more clever or believable the movie asks the audience to just go with it. After a revelation the music after it is so over the top it got a lot of unintentional laughs out of me.The final act is just silly based off of one thing sprouts silly moments and some of the most robotic and wooden acting I've ever seen in a movie tied to a an over the top plot twist. A lot of moments are predictable and clichéd.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 4
