Sounds good. The Hodge brothers both in it.

(Edwin) Hodge was born on January 26, 1985,[2] in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Aldis Basil Hodge and Yolette Evangeline Richardson, but he was raised in New York.[3] Hodge's mother is from the state of Florida and his father from Saint Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands. Both of his parents served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is the older brother of actor Aldis Hodge.

Paramount is planning on coming out with a Star Trek 4 either in 2025/26. My sons had not seen the first 3 films and I pretty much forgot what happened in them. So we watched the first one earlier tonight on Paramount+.

The film basically starts out introducing the members showing Kirk as a child and being wild and rebellious. Spock is already in Star Fleet and later we meet McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, Chekhov and Scotty as the film progress.

Capt. Pike is introduced as Kirk’s mentor.

The crew comes together at the end going against Nero who is a Romulan with help from future Spock (Leonard Nimoy) who has a cameo in the film.

VFX/SFX was done well. The film has plenty of action and suspense to keep you glued to the screen. Overall it’s a pretty decent reboot of the franchise with the actors doing their own interpretations of the characters and still keeping the original characters nuances.

We gonna try to watch the 2nd film tonight.

Synopsis

Aboard the USS Enterprise, the most-sophisticated starship ever built, a novice crew embarks on its maiden voyage. Their path takes them on a collision course with Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan commander whose mission of vengeance threatens all mankind. If humanity would survive, a rebellious young officer named James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and a coolly logical Vulcan named Spock (Zachary Quinto) must move beyond their rivalry and find a way to defeat Nero before it is too late.

Thanks for the review.

Wish that Anton Yelchin was still alive. Really good young actor, and what a way to go in that freak accident years back.

After Yelchin failed to arrive at a rehearsal on June 18, 2016, he was found by friends at around 1:10 a.m. on June 19, 2016,[36] pinned between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and a brick pillar gate post outside his house in Studio City, Los Angeles, dead from a freak accident.[37][38] As Yelchin got out of his car and went to check his locked gate for mail, the vehicle apparently rolled back down his driveway, which was on a steep incline, and trapped him against the pillar and a security fence. Yelchin was pronounced dead at the scene at the age of 27;[39] the Los Angeles County Coroner's office identified the cause of death as "blunt traumatic asphyxia" and stated that there were "no obvious suspicious circumstances involved".[40][41]

Watched Miller's Girl a few days ago given all the poor reviews in recent weeks. Still trying to decipher if it was a "good bad movie" or not.

There were certain elements that I liked (or didn't mind). The friendship with Ortega and her classmate "Winnie". Martin Freeman and fellow teacher Bashir Salahuddin as "Boris Fillmore". Winnie had some of the funnier moments with her inappropriate comments.

The controversial scene about 2/3 the way through the movie doesn't amount to much, and is fairly cringe.

One of the most accurate lines in the movie is in the latter half when one character notes to be weary of teenage girls as they can be "dangerous" and "emotionally abusive".

Much of the dialogue doesn't feel natural though as it's too literature / academia-based. Felt more like an older college setting, as opposed to that of a high school.

Little back story on Ortega's character, and little to nothing about other students aside from Ortega as "Cairo Sweet" and Gideon Adlon as "Winnie".

Star Trek Into Darkness
2013

7.5/10

Me and my sons watched this last night after watching the first one earlier.

The film somewhat followed the 1980s “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan”, but went into a different direction away from that film and TOS.

Kirk is full Captain of the Enterprise and all the characters are in place as in TOS.

Like the first, VFX/SFX looked great, lots of action and suspense. Overall it was an entertaining film.

Synopsis

The crew of the Starship Enterprise returns home after an act of terrorism within its own organization destroys most of Starfleet and what it represents, leaving Earth in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Capt. James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) leads his people (Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoë Saldana) on a mission to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction, thereby propelling all of them into an epic game of life and death.

‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘The Holdovers’ Win Top Honors for Editing at ACE Eddie Awards

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” topped the dramatic feature editing category at the American Cinema Editors’ 74th ACE Eddie Awards, while “The Holdovers” won the category for best edited comedic feature during Sunday’s ceremony at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
Jennifer Lame edited “Oppenheimer,” which also took top honors at last week’s SAG Awards and Producers Guild Awards. The recent honor further cements the film’s position to take top prize at the Oscars next weekend. But she faces competition from Kevin Tent, who won here for “The Holdovers.”
Should Lame go on to win the Oscar, it will mark nine years since a woman has won. Margaret Sixel won in 2015 for “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Tent, also president of ACE, kicked off the ceremony addressing last year’s labor strikes, saying, “It’s great to look out and see so many rock star editors…Last year was an extraordinarily difficult year for our entire industry. Editors and post-production are not immune at all. 2023 hurt badly and 2024 is off to a tepid start. It feels like there’s an industry that desires to avoid repeating 2023 and get back to doing what we do best.”

Murch shared the evolution of the montage and splice through cinema. He talked about how cinema had embraced those advancements. Bringing his speech to the present day, Murch also took a moment to address AI. He said, “Just as editing transformed motion picture and cinema, I hope, we the present and rising generations of film editors and directors can find a way to use AI to expand and transform the potentials of cinema in ways that at the moment can only be leveraged through a glass darkly with equal amounts of excitement and nerves.”

Me and the sons watched this one tonight on Paramount+.

The movie starts out with the Enterprise headed to Starbase Yorktown. The film did a good job showing the long term effects of people’s behavior on being in space for such a extended period of time, even if they are onboard a Starship that’s designed like a luxury cruiser. There was a good visual showing the Enterprise moving thru space in warp drive.

The VFX/EFX for the Starbase looked amazing for CGI. I recently watched a Sci-Fi film called “Coma” on tubi that used AI to get the same effects, both techniques look good.

There is the scene with the Enterprise 1701 getting destroyed and crashing onto a planet that had good effects.

Idris Elba played the bad guy under extensive makeup, it took some time before I realized it was him.

There wasn’t any extensive action with the Enterprise being it was destroyed in the beginning of the film, which forced the film to mainly focus on all the characters that the first 2 films didn’t really do.

Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys music is used in the film and referred to as “Classical Music”.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, this is the film that introduced Sulu as a Gay man with a family. Nothing is shown.

The new Enterprise 1701-A debuted at the end, we will be seeing it in the next film and all new films after with whatever new bells and whistles they plan on it having.

Synopsis

A surprise attack in outer space forces the Enterprise to crash-land on a mysterious world. The assault came from Krall (Idris Elba), a lizard-like dictator who derives his energy by sucking the life out of his victims. Krall needs an ancient and valuable artifact that's aboard the badly damaged starship. Left stranded in a rugged wilderness, Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the crew must now battle a deadly alien race while trying to find a way off their hostile planet.

Cuz of their track record of canceling shit.

This series had gotten good reviews and was holding up in Netflix’s Top 10 for a short period.

But because of their crazy algorithm, they decided to cancel it. Netflix wants high viewership as soon as something new debuts, they don’t believe on letting shit marinate giving people time to get word out, especially if it’s a sleeper hit.

Now they got a series on its service that will sit there for eternity, with nobody watching cuz they know it’s a waste of time. There was probably millions of people wanting to watch it later after catching up with older stuff, but now they will just skip it.

I have stated before, I don’t get into anything new until I get confirmation it’s getting renewed.

I got burned back in 2022 a couple of times with that series “Archive 81” and “1899”.

I just recently watched “Wednesday” when I found out it got renewed.

Space Psyche

PRAISE: Spaceman joins all of the other astronaut alone in space movies and even though it borrows a bit from Star Trek : Generations this movie about an astronaut dispatched on a mission to the outer reaches of the solar system, where he encounters a mysterious alien works on some levels. The performances and voice work by the cast including Adam Sandler · Paul Dano · Carey Mulligan · Kunal Nayyar are very good. As Jakub (Sandler) pulls back the layers on the phenomenon hes investigating he also pulls back the layers on his life and what shaped his life and his mindset but what also estranged him from his wife Lenka ( Mulligan). There are good bonding moments between alien and human and theres a funny moment when their similar depressions pop up.Slowly but surely I realized the purpose and placement of the alien Hanus in the film. Reconciliation with the past and present are at the forefront coupled with some almost flawless CGI I was on board for mainly all of the raw emotion that plays out in the film.

PROBLEMS: There are definitely some bland and repetitive moments especially at the beginning of the movie. The subject matter felt a little been there done that even though I know the writers and director do try to change things up a bit. There are some things I couldn't get on board with. I did wonder why certain things were set up for Jakub and in a scene that happens towards the end of the movie I had to ask why wasn't he provided this from the beginning?

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7

Of course. It was good, therefore it must go.

I actually heard an interview with one of the Netflix bosses and they hate that they are labeled like that...

But the track record is there.

I need them to really make it make sense to do this.

They claim its all about the algorithm

And with the money they making? Who the f*ck am I to judge?

it doesn't help that all the numbers are hidden

In Fiery Monologue, Patton Oswalt Calls Out David Zaslav for Dumping Movies

Oswalt kicked off the Golden Reels ceremony, honoring editors, with jokes focused on the state of Hollywood following last year's dual strikes.

BY RYAN GAJEWSKI

MARCH 4, 2024 12:07PM
Patton Oswalt

Patton Oswalt took a shot at Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav during his opening monologue as host of the 71st Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards.

Oswalt kicked off the MPSE ceremony Sunday in Los Angeles by lamenting the challenges that Hollywood faced in 2023. Oswalt, who also hosted the event last year, went on to discuss the labor stoppages for both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

“What better choice to entertain a room full of postproduction workers than a guy who is in both SAG and the WGA,” the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire actor quipped. “That’s right. I’m the asshole that forced you to take out a second mortgage on your home.”

Oswalt continued, “But despite the nightmare of last year’s basically living hell that we all went through, you guys, as always, did some amazing work. And I’m just talking about the movies that were locked in a vault for a tax break. Get it?”

The comedian went on to specifically call out Zaslav, whose company has scrapped multiple finished films amid cost-cutting measures, including Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt in 2022 and Coyote vs. Acme last year. “I joke, but it’s exciting to see our industry once again flourishing,” Oswalt said. “I hear that David Zaslav just gave a three-picture deal to H&R Block. Vive la cinéma!”

Oswalt’s mention of the tax preparation company follows Warner Bros. Discovery disclosing in an earnings filing last month that it took a $115 million tax write-off from jettisoning unspecified films in the third quarter of 2023, spurring speculation that Coyote vs. Acme will indeed never get a release. The Hollywood Reporter had previously reported that Warner Bros. agreed to shop the movie — a hybrid of live-action and CG animation featuring classic Looney Tunes characters — to interested parties, leading multiple distributors to unsuccessfully bid on the title.
Previously, THR reported that Zaslav opted to shelve Batgirl to take a write-down on the film that was intended to debut via streaming. At the time, the CEO explained that the company would focus its film efforts on bigger theatrical moments.

Among the winners at the 2024 Golden Reel Awards was Oppenheimer, which collected two prizes. Maestro, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Society of the Snow were also honored at the ceremony celebrating sound design.
