I just finished watching this one late this afternoon on the road. I watched it on Netflix, it’s also on all the free streaming apps.

It’s a bio-pic based on artist Margaret Keane. This movie co-stars Krysten Ritter, it’s the main reason for watching it.

It’s directed by Tim Burton so the movie looks great visually and the story flows nicely. No scenes are there as “filler” and you are engaged into the film from start to finish.

Amy Adam’s stars. She looks completely different with the Blonde hair from her normal Red hair. Her performance is done well along with Christopher Waltz.

Krysten has a small role. She isn’t bouncing around all bubbly, but she isn’t all moody as in “Jessica Jones”. She looks good in her scenes with her hair pulled back.

Synopsis

In the late 1950s and early '60s, artist Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz) achieves unbelievable fame and success with portraits of saucer-eyed waifs. However, no one realizes that his wife, Margaret (Amy Adams), is the real painter behind the brush. Although Margaret is horrified to learn that Walter is passing off her work as his own, she is too meek to protest too loudly. It isn't until the Keanes' marriage comes to an end and a lawsuit follows that the truth finally comes to light.

I was scrolling thru tubi and came across this one tonight. I looked at the preview and it caught my eye immediately.

I was gonna hold off and wait until I got home, but the mofo just looked too interesting and tempting, so I watched it in my truck.

The premise of the film copies from “The Matrix” and “Inception”, putting them together and going a different route. The best way I can explain it without spoiling it.

I watched it on my 22” LCD TV with my iPhone hooked to it and the VFX/SFX looked great. I can only imagine what it looks like on a 4K UHD TV. They extensively used AI for the effects in this film and they did a good job with it.

It’s a 2 hour long film. It goes immediately into the action as soon as it starts. Character introduction/development takes place thru-out the film, that way it does not slow it down.

The film is from Russia, tubi allows you to turn on subtitles. The film is on other free streaming services, if you can find one dubbed in English, I highly recommend it.

Synopsis

A man awakens in a chaotic dystopian world filled with memories of comatose patients and nonexistent laws of physics.

George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead
2009

5/10

I got home early this morning to reset my clock and decided to try and catch up on movies while I’m home today and tomorrow.

For some reason, I thought I was caught up with George Romero’s zombie flicks, but this one I obviously must have missed so I watched it this morning.

Not much to say about it. The zombie apocalypse is already in effect when the film starts and the film just mainly deals with the survivors. George as with all his zombie flicks has political and social messages intertwined with the plot.

If you are planning on binging all his zombie flicks in order of release, make sure you don’t omit this one.

Synopsis

Zombies have taken over the world, and a ragtag band of soldiers led by Sarge Crockett (Alan Van Sprang) roams the countryside trying to scavenge what they can. Constantly on guard against flesh-eaters, the group is intrigued when they hear of a safe haven on Plum Island. But when they arrive, they find the supposed paradise torn apart by a family feud between the O'Flynns, who want to exterminate all zombies, and the Muldoons, who coexist peacefully with their undead relatives.

I had saved this a few months ago and watched it this morning.

I wasn’t paying attention and thought it was a full length film being it’s listed in Hulu’s movie section.

I just watched it and discovered it is a 4 minute short film. It’s actually pretty good for it being so short.

The premise has been done a million times over the past 20 years. So being it’s short makes those other films seem stupid.

For the Foot Fiends, good shots of the White chicks feet and soles in the short time this film takes place.

You can watch the whole film below.

Synopsis

A young woman unwittingly unlocks something supernatural after watching an old dance video on the internet.

I watched this one this morning at home.

For the plot, it’s interesting even though the premise has been done before.

It’s a somewhat slow-burn Sci-Fi/Thriller. VFX/SFX are minimal.

If you looking for something to watch just to watch, this will do.

The film is from Germany, Netflix gives you the option to either sub-title or dub in English.

Synopsis

In the future, a method of transferring years of one's life to another changes the world and turns AEON into a billion-dollar company. To pay off debts, Elena must "pay" 40 years of her life, robbing her and her husband of their future together.

I stumbled upon this one this afternoon and watched it earlier this afternoon on Hulu.

First, this is not a film for Movie ADHD suffers, what you see in the trailer is how the whole film is. Be warned.

This is a supernatural thriller that takes a unique approach to the genre. The horror is not on what you see, but what you think.

The film is shot entirely in the dark and has a grainy look to it as if you are viewing it with night vision goggles. The look enhances the creepiness. There are lots of visuals that will play with your eyes getting you to think you see something…but are not sure cuz the film jumps to the next scene and it starts all over again with you waiting and not knowing if something is there or will appear. This too adds to the creepiness.

Being the film revolves around children, it comes off like watching a real life nightmare taking place with how the film is shown.

There isn’t anything given for a backstory, no character or story development. There is a plot and you will have to place close attention and listen to make it out. There is very little dialogue or visual of the characters thru-out the film.

The film has a slight vibe to the first “Paranormal Entity” film where “Less is More”.

Overall, this is a film left to the viewer’s interpretation of what is going on and how it ends. The film does give an ending based on what is happening.

This is definitely a film for hardcore horror films.

Synopsis

Two children wake up in the middle of the night to find their father is missing, and all the windows and doors in their home have vanished.

Ordinary Men: The Forgotten Holocaust
2022

8/10

I watched this one this afternoon on Netflix.

This is a documentary giving insight on the Nazi Death Squads and how the members of the units were easily persuaded to go out and execute innocent civilians with no remorse.

It goes in-depth on how the units were formed and managed the orders given to them.

Definitely a good documentary to watch if you have questions on how people were able to kill so easily.

Synopsis

The Nuremberg Einsatzgruppen trial of 1947/1948 is considered the largest murder trial in history against members of four death squads from the security police and SD (the security service of the SS). During World War II, six million Jews were murdered. Four million died in the extermination camps, but two million people were killed in systematic mass shootings.

The perpetrators came face to face with their victims. They shot at men, women, children - day after day, obediently and assiduously, as if it were normal work. Tens of thousands of Germans belonged to the mobile commandos of the task forces and police battalions. Who were these men, how could they commit such murders? What did the few survivors tell, how were they able to escape the mass extinction and live on with the horrific experience? Based on written traditions, original documents, film footage and photos as well as expert statements, the documentary traces the path of one of these murder battalions.

That is what she should've wore in the Madam Web movie
Maybe then, more people would've actually watched it ;)
But instead, the directors had her looking like a catholic school girl
Wearing a church outfit buttoned all the way up to her neck

If you are familiar with this classic gif…

kai-homeless.gif

Then if you want to know the full story of this idiot, this documentary will fully explain it.

It came out a year ago and I finally got around to watching it late this afternoon at home.

It’s an interesting story of what happened with this character doing his famous hatchet chop, what happened after with his instant fame, his childhood and his downfall.

Synopsis

This shocking documentary chronicles a happy-go-lucky nomad's ascent to viral stardom and the steep downward spiral that resulted in his imprisonment.

Madame Web

Web of Woe

PRAISE: SONY continues to try to make flicks about Spider-Man villains and allies in this movie about Cassandra Webb a New York City paramedic who starts to show signs of clairvoyance and attempts to protect three young women from a sinister character. At least the character Ezekiel portrayed by Tahar Rahim was interesting. I actually got on board with what he was trying to do and at least some interesting things play out in his story arc. Some of the visuals were fun. Some scenes were interesting although very very brief.

PROBLEMS: There are definitely some hokey and unintentionally funny scenes in the flick. The plot holes are as large as the Sun. Dakota Johnson as Madame Web ....the things she does were as inconsistent as her powers. The acting and dialogue is beyond wooden in several scenes.
I thought it was silly how the flick dances around major things that are connected to Spider-Man which made me question why include them in the plot in the first place? Just because SONY can? The flick collects all of these characters portrayed by Sydney Sweeney · Julia Cornwall and Isabela Merced but doesn't really do anything with them and I think whoever decided to display the characters the way they are in this flick is the king or queen of bad decisions.
I actually laughed when I noticed that something that was done in the TV show Smallville when they didn't want to spend money on costumes is also done in this flick. The flick doesn't follow up on certain things and I guess I was just supposed to forget about them. This flick would have worked better as a horror movie, just remove the Marvel characters include a crazy slasher and use the characters that were in the diner.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
2009

6/10

I had seen around 2010 on HBO. My sons had not seen it and being I forgot what it was about. We watched it last night on Paramount+.

Also, they plan on doing G.I. Joe/Transformer films together, so that’s the other reason we watched it.

The film is mainly the origin of Cobra Commander for the film series.

Not going into detail, but the film is just entertainment, no more no less. VFX/SFX looked good and it had enough action to keep you looking at the screen.

We plan on watching the sequel when I get back home.

Synopsis

Armed with the latest in military and spy technology, the team of elite soldiers known as G.I. Joe travel around the globe to wherever their services are needed. In their latest assignment Gen. Hawk (Dennis Quaid), Duke (Channing Tatum) and the rest of the G.I. Joe team take on Destro (Christopher Eccleston), a corrupt arms dealer, and fight the growing threat of the mysterious Cobra organization.

Hells Angels on Wheels

5.5/10

I watched this last night on tubi, it had come up in my tubi recommendations last month.

This is one of the few biker films that the Hells Angels endorsed. Their colors are worn by actors in the film. Actual members of the HA are in small minor roles. Legendary Hells Angels President Sonny Barger has a small non speaking cameo.

It’s an exploitation flick from the era. Majority of these films usually suck with bad acting, editing and everything else. But this film actually was put together well and plays out good.

There are lots of fights, bike riding and scenes depicting the outlaw Biker life thruout the film. It was filmed thruout the San Francisco/Oakland area, so if you are from there you should recognize the locations.

The film does a good job of depicting the Bay Area life style of the 1960s.

It’s an entertaining film. tubi has a clean remastered copy.

Synopsis

A gas-station attendant (Jack Nicholson) joins a motorcycle gang and moves in on the leader's (Adam Roarke) girlfriend (Sabrina Scharf).

Under the Skin
2013

6/10

This came up in my MAX recommendations after watching the earlier Max film I reviewed “Aniara”.

I watched this one earlier tonight on MAX. I’m not sure how I missed this flick for so long.

It’s basically a Sci-Fi thriller with a basic premise. There isn’t anything for VFX/SFX and nothing showing technology. Scarlett Johansson character barely speaks in the film, everything thru-out the film is done by watching her actions and responses to what she is engaging in. There is very little dialogue thru-out the film overall.

The first half of the film deals with Scarlett accomplishing her mission, the 2nd half deals with her slowly connecting to the human aspects of the body she is occupying.

It’s not really a slow burn film, but being there is very little dialogue, you are forced to watch what is going on which makes the film seem longer than what it is.

For the Thirsty, there is full frontal/rear nudity of Scarlett Johansson in one scene.

Synopsis

Disguising itself as a human female, an extraterrestrial drives around Scotland attempting to lure unsuspecting men into her van. Once there, she seduces and sends them into another dimension where they are nothing more than meat.

Hell Ride
2008

5/10

I watched this last night on the road on tubi.

This is basically a modern version of those old 60s/70s biker flicks.

The film is produced by Quentin Tarantino. The guy who directed it has worked with Quentin over the years, so the film has the style Quentin uses.

The plot is nothing new for this genre, so don’t go expecting anything exciting.

There is plenty of graphic violence and full female nudity thru-out.

Plenty of well known actors thru-out the film. Everyone’s acting is not up to par, I think it was intentional to give it that “B-Movie” feel to it.

If you are a Quentin Tarantino fan, you will enjoy this flick.

Synopsis

The Deuce (David Carradine) and Billy Wings (Vinnie Jones), leaders of an evil biker gang known as the Six-Six-Sixers, murder Cherokee Kisum (Julia Jones), a member of the Victors, over a drug money dispute. Years later, the Deuce and Wings are back in town to settle some old business, and Pistolero (Larry Bishop), Cherokee's old boyfriend, sees this as an opportunity to finally get revenge. He recruits two old friends, Gent (Michael Madsen) and Eddie Zero (Dennis Hopper), for help.

The House That Dripped Blood

6.5/10

I watched this earlier this evening on the road. I went into it thinking it was gonna be one of those corny 70s era horror flicks, but it played out better than I expected.

It’s an anthology film based around a home that is leased out by an unusual realtor.

There are 4 stories total that have a good cast of actors from recognizable feature films from the era.

tubi has a clean copy.

Synopsis

A Scotland Yard inspector is treated to a quartet of horror stories while investigating a murder at a countryside estate.

One Night Stay

This movie is at its best when the characters portrayed by Stephen Bishop and LeToya Luckett are going through the motions of their partially estranged and strained marriage dispensing salty dialogue and insults in this movie about a married man who gets more than he bargained for when his one-night stand quietly disappears into the shadows of his vast mansion.Luckett continues to impress as she matures as an actress.
Some scenes that were supposed to be suspenseful felt like silly slapstick to me but a couple of twists at the end of the movie bring it back to where it should have stayed.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

Airforce One Down

Definitely borrowing a bit from other Airforce One taken over by terrorists movies I still have to praise it for its great kills and intense fist and near MMA fights. Even though I had to suspend disbelief when five foot five Katherine McNamara takes on men who look like they just walked out of a World Wrestling ring or the Street Fighter video game. But I wasn't surprised by her action skills after watching her in the TV show Arrow for a couple of years. Some reading off a teleprompter acting throughout. There's some cheesy moments and some that don't make much sense especially when it comes to the Vice President portrayed by Dascha Polanco who just has one moment of concern when something seems off about muted communication with Airforce One. Either her scenes were cut or the writers just didn't care.
