Don't expect who, why, when or where, because this isn't about answers.

Don't expect what's in the trailer, because it's more about the war photographers/journalist and it from their viewpoint. It's really about them. The war scenes were well done.

The pacing was pretty good, but it did bog down at time. Plus it gets very quiet at times. This one dude in the back was snoring so loud. I hope I never sound like that in a movie. The funny thing is it would go from extremely quiet to loud gun shots, so I bet it scared the shit out of him.

You don't really get to pick sides and there isn't a villain, well besides Jesse Plemons who was excellent as usual. I'm also glad it didn't have a white savior. One of my favorite movies I've seen so far this year.

Checked it out yesterday as well.

Fam’ purchased tickets and I went in having not watched the trailer.

You are right about the movie going from loud to quiet very quickly.

The Dolby surround sound at the theater was loud as fuck for the gun fights.

I hate when they do this, I find myself holding the remote and adjusting the volume while watching a lot of movies these days.

Good look!

I knew I was seeing CIVIL WAR this week so I waited for the big screen trailer. Glad I did - the Ramirez angle is a smart up level to the series. Promising shit!
…fuck I hate trailers in general tho lol. This was the very rare one that actually didn’t give shit away as it did the job of selling me on a ticket purchase lol

I’ll never forget the first time I heard my best friend say the phrase - “that nigga be talkin hisself outta pussy as a habit.” Lol
Props to Ti and crew for not fuckin the dog after setting this one up to basically sell itself

Jeepers Creepers 3
2017

4/10

I watched this last night on the road on SYFY OnDemand thru my cable app.

This film actually falls in between the first two and the ending goes right into “Jeepers Creeper 2”.

More information is shared on the Creeper. And we see more of his truck in action which is full of booby traps in/out of it.

More action with the Creeper is shown in this film. The film overall plays out more like a B-Movie more than the first two.

The film ends setting it up for future sequels.

Synopsis

A sergeant and his task force embark on a mission to destroy the Creeper on its last day of feeding. The Creeper soon fights back when they get close to discovering its mysterious and dark origins.

I couldn’t fall asleep last night and decided to squeeze this film in while on the road. I watched it on Paramount+.

It’s supposed to be horror film, but plays out more like a psychological thriller. It does have a supernatural element to it.

Basically what you see in the trailer is what you getting with this film. The premise has been done a shit load of times over the past 25+ years, so nothing new there.

It has the usual, predictable jump scares in it along with some graphic violence.

The film ends to set it up for potential sequels.

Synopsis

After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can't explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

One of my all-time fave movies.

My mom and now-late aunt took my cousin and I to see it downtown on a weeknight as grade-school kids in the 80s. We all enjoyed it. I've seen it a handful of times since on VHS, dvd, etc.

Have it saved on DVR too.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition
2001

8.5/10

If you are unaware, Warner Bros. has a new LOTR film scheduled to debut in theaters December 2024.

So, me and my sons decided to watch the first 3 films. When the first film came out, neither one of them were born. I last saw it when it was originally released in theaters back in 2001. They haven’t seen any of the LOTR films.

Last night we watched it on MAX. They have the extended edition…..and that mofo is EXTENDED!!!. It took us 4 hours to get thru that mofo. We actually took a 20 minute intermission break around the 3 hr mark.

The film introduces the primary characters and introduces the main plot. Being it is a long film, lots of character development is done.

Action and suspense holds up today. Some of the VFX/SFX looks dated, but still holds up to content coming out today. Cinematography on locations does a good job showing how massive the World they live in is.

Being I haven’t seen the film since 2001, I’m clueless on what new footage they added. Watching it was like watching it for the first time cuz it’s been so long.

Even with the extended length, there isn’t any parts that felt like filler scenes, no scenes slowed the film down and it held a good pace from start to finish.

We gonna attempt to knock out the 2nd one tonight. MAX has the first 3 films as Extended Editions all running about 4 hours.

Synopsis

The future of civilization rests in the fate of the One Ring, which has been lost for centuries. Powerful forces are unrelenting in their search for it. But fate has placed it in the hands of a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), who inherits the Ring and steps into legend. A daunting task lies ahead for Frodo when he becomes the Ringbearer - to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom where it was forged.

Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told
2024

4/10

I watched this documentary this afternoon on Hulu.

It basically covers the origins of Freaknik in the 1980s until it was basically shut down in the late 90s.

The documentary is basically split up in 3 parts with the origin, the wild party years and when it got out of control.

About the only surprise is showing how Outkast used Freaknik to market themselves when they started. There isn’t anything sexual shown or incriminating. Basically all you see is people standing around or strolling around along with hanging outside of cars.

Overall, there really isn’t thing impressive with it. It falls into the category of “Seen It Once, No Interest In Ever Watching It Again”.

Synopsis

A celebratory exploration of the boisterous times of Freaknik, the iconic Atlanta street party that drew hundreds of thousands of people in the '80s and '90s, helping put Atlanta on the map culturally.

Updated my mom's flashdrive a few days ago with movies & TV series.

Made sure to include Knox Goes Away after the recent discussion on the board. She watched it this evening with her boyfriend & a friend of theirs. They all enjoyed it (all in their early- to mid-70s). Said thanks to everyone who recommended it. Mom was surprised to see the mixed to low score reviews online on other sites.

I look forward to watching it later this spring.

No problem slick. Some people don't like the slow burn. Other people don't like movies where they have to think. I'll never understand why they rate bad movies good and good movies average. But I'm glad that your mom and her people loved it

Thanks G’.

Yeah - she said thumbs up from all 3 of them and she’s keen about Beetlejuice 2 later this year.

I was saying to her the aggregate score sites are good for glancing at pros and cons. Just have to ignore the immediate 90% or 25% ratings, lol. Look for the reviewers who are fair and rational with their takes.

Nothing like the classics. I'm watching The Sting (1973) on Netflix right now. It leaves Netflix at the end of the month so I figured I would catch it before it leaves. The black guy in the beginning if he looks familiar he's James Earl Jones's father

It's a damn shame that Robert Shaw died so young. Yes, he was an alcoholic, but damn the man has some acting skill.

Shaw died in Ireland at the age of 51 from a heart attack on 28 August 1978, while driving from Castlebar, County Mayo, to his home in Tourmakeady. He was accompanied by his wife Virginia and his son Thomas. He suddenly became ill, stopped the car, stepped out, then collapsed and lost consciousness on the roadside.

Civil War

War Wage

PRAISE: Director and writer Alex Garlands film about a dystopian future America, and a team of military-embedded journalists races against time to reach Washington, D.C., before rebel factions descend upon the White House is effective and then some. I liked how the layers are slowly but surely pulled back on what effect the new civil war has had on America in this movie. Those that take advantage of the war and those that simply tune it out. I did enjoy the vibe of the various characters in the film portrayed by Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, and Nick Offerman all turning in strong performances ranging from world weary, pessimistic, to wide eyed determined and ambitious. As the movie played out I kept thinking would their actually be reporters and photojournalism actually covering a near apocalyptic situation......probably.
Some parts of the movie definitely reminded me of get the story no matter what movies like The Year of Living Dangerously and Under Fire.
There's a standout scene in the movie that displays just how bad things can get when division takes place on a grand scale i found it to be extremely intense and harrowing.
There's disturbing imagery throughout the movie some that are truly not for the faint of heart. Action sequences towards the end of the film were very involving.

PROBLEMS: I would have liked a bit more backstory on how things turned into brother against brother, and who was accountable. I was waiting for the one year earlier caption to hit the screen. There are a few predictable moments.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8½

Knox Goes Away

Slickly Surprising

PRAISE: There is something so entertaining and appealing about movies with plots about old school hitman, thieves and gangsters. That one last job right before or at the start of them losing their touch. Knox Goes Away is all of that and then some. Nicely directed by and Starring Michael Keaton who turns in a moving performance. Great turns from a who's who in Hollywood cast including James Marsden, Suzy Nakamura, Joanna Kulig, Ray McKinnon, John Hoogenakker, Lela Loren, Marcia Gay Harden, and Al Pacino
As jazzy tunes play in the background the film plays out in a way that is calming but with explosions of violence. It's written in a way that I immediately cared for Knox and what he was going through. The loose ends and regrets in life are written all over his face and when presented with a couple of tricky situations he's sees it as a way to get some type of revenge for betrayal and to make things right which plays out in an interesting and involving way.

PROBLEMS: There are a couple of predictable turns. There is a really big unintentionally funny moment...but then again maybe it's a good thing.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8

Monkey Man

Manic Monkey

PRAISE: This story about loss, revenge and enlightenment works for the most part due to some great performances and well choreographed fight scenes. The story is about Kid who attempts to make money in a fight club but determined to infiltrate a sinister group to avenge his mother's death. Dev Patel turns in an unflinching performance as well as writing, producing, and Directing the film. His script provides a little bit of everything as Kid plots his revenge but also finds himself face to face with colorful characters portrayed by Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma,Sobhita Dhulipala and Ashwini Kalsekar. There's nothing quite like the salty dialogue in the film when its said with an Indian tongue. There's some very intense fighting and I can see why Patel broke some bones while filming and being a part of these sequences. I appreciated the unique kills in the movie.

PROBLEMS: The political sections of the story felt jumbled to me.While I appreciated and understood the placement of the Ayahuasca and getting in touch with your spiritual side, training moments in the movie but this is also when the movie starts to stall and the script feels a bit to drawn out.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7
Saw Knox a few days ago..... pretty damn good.

Good direction from Beetlejuice as well

She was a cool chick. A bit loud and eccentric, but good-hearted.

Got to know her really well working on a course assignment, and going out for dinners, etc.

Attended her wedding in the mid-2000s ... but that was short-lived. Divorced a few years later.

She went on a big health kick in the 2010s ... lost a bunch of weight. The sign of glorious titties though? They were still relatively intact, even after plenty of lbs lost. Shoutout to Vee.
