How to Make Love to a Woman
2010

4/10

I been going thru Krysten Ritter’s filmography and this film recently popped up on tubi. I watched it this morning at home.

It’s a Romantic Comedy film. Being it’s a Rom-Com, I was expecting it too be soppy sweet like the genre usually has. The film actually steers away from that narrative and has a more male POV style to it which caught my interest within the first 15 minutes into watching it.

The film has a somewhat “Seth Rogan” style vibe to it. It still has the usual scenarios that play out in Rom-Coms. The comedy is not LOL funny, but humorous at some points.

For the Thirsty, Krysten portrays a bubbly, South Cali “Valley Girl” character. She has a couple of sex scenes but nothing is shown. She looks younger from her “Breaking Bad” appearance.

The film co-stars a couple of female porn stars. Jenna Jameson and Jessica Jaymes have small speaking roles. Jenna is shown during the time when she went too far with the facial plastic surgery and is barely recognizable. Jessica looks like her familiar self.

The film is full of recognizable actors were just becoming well known in Hollywood at the time. The film continues thru the end credits roll.

I also noticed while watching this film that tubi did an upgrade. When you FF/REW, you can do it by frames similar to how Netflix does it.

Synopsis

In Los Angeles, Andy Conners works in Fearless Records selecting new talents. Andy is in love and engaged to Lauren Baker for one year but he is unable to satisfy Lauren in bed.

Interesting. Ritter was great as Jesse's girlfriend on Breaking Bad.

Josh Meyers is Seth's less well-known brother.

5/10

I watched this flick this afternoon at home on PlutoTV.

It’s an action flick starring the late Jim Brown. The film mainly plays out like a crime drama more than action/adventure.

The film immediately kicks off with suspense to engage you into watching it. After that the film continues on at a decent pace with some shoot ‘em ups and fight scenes.

For the Militants, Jim has some IR love scenes with White female co-star and former Playmate, Stella Stevens. All that is shown is closeup of them open mouth kissing and rubbing against each other. Jim basically ignores the attractive Black female co-star, Marlene Clark thru out the film.

For the Thirsty, there is some quick nudity of Stella Stevens.

There is a number of recognizable co-stars in the film from well known blaxploitation flicks of the 70s.

Overall, it’s an entertaining film, nothing special about it.

PlutoTV has a good clean copy.

Unbelievable !!

PRAISE: Right from the start this movie about a father taking his daughter to the concert of a famous pop star but something sinister is tied to daddy daughter day wants the audience to buy into several things. There have been plenty of real life stories about murderers and serial killers having normal careers and loving families that had no clue what they were up to so no problem there. I thought Josh Hartnett did well as the psycho off balance dad Cooper. With blank stares and quickly fading smiles he gets the character right . As his daughter Riley Ariel Donoghue also is quite good as the ultra fan of pop diva, Lady Raven (Saleka Shyamalan). Director M. Night Shyamalan is able to capture all of the corny parts of a mega star and the masses of fans one has. There are some good planned ahead moments.

PROBLEMS: After the 30 minute mark I started to question several of the story set ups. For example the FBI not doing something that would have made more sense to do from the start. Well know procedures police take in real life in certain situations are clearly forgotten in the script for this movie. By painting a character as someone who is ultra nice and caring Shyamalan paints himself into a corner simultaneously. I started to wonder if a character was a magician because I kept wondering how the character moved so quickly. Something that was supposed to be a huge secret is blatantly obvious. Anyone that has even seen a small glimpse of a concert by a mega pop star can tell that even a person that was so enraptured by the performer would know something is off and be alarmed as the concert was going on. The movie completely forgets a story thread that I actually wanted to know more about. The trailer for this movie was far better than this final product.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 5

The First Omen
2024

4.5/10

I watched this one the other day on Hulu at home.

This is the official prequel to the classic “The Omen” films.

Without spoiling it, it the film mainly takes place about 5 years prior to “The Omen” focusing on the conception and birth of Damien.

It’s a 2 hour film and it’s basically a slow burn for about the first 1 hour and 10 minutes. After that it picks up in pace and story.

The film does a good job being very graphic and gory showing childbirth thru out the film.

The end of the film has two parts. Without spoiling it, one part steers directly into the opening scene of “The Omen” and using a still picture of actor Gregory Peck from the film. The 2nd part goes into a different direction and brings up a whole new plot line. It’s pretty clear this new plot line will be the focus in future films and coincide with the original films. It will definitely have you looking at the original films differently.

I’m definitely looking forward to whatever sequels to this film that are plan.

Synopsis

A woman starts to question her own faith when she uncovers a terrifying conspiracy to bring about the birth of evil incarnate in Rome.

Dune Part Two
2024

4.5/10

I watched this yesterday at home in MAX.

Since I’m the last person on the forum who has seen it, I’m not gonna go into it.

This sequel is a serious slow-burn. Lots of talking and minimal action until the last 20 minutes of the film. And the action there was not impressive.

It looks like they left it off for a 3rd film.

Synopsis

Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Watched MaXXXine yesterday.

Part of the trilogy of films with X and Pearl as previous releases.

It was ok, but not as good as I would have hoped.

The main cast was good, though there were a handful of characters who could have easily had more screen time but were only around very, very briefly. Very underutilized really. The last act (30 mins or so) goes off the rails a bit, as expected. But the 1st hour is a bit slower by comparison in getting there.

Fave scene in the movie involves a car. You'll know it when you see it ...
