The Platform 2
2024

6/10

This sequel debuted last week and I watched it last night on the road on Netflix.

I debated rewatching the first one to get caught up being it’s been 4 years since I saw it. I decided to read a plot synopsis of the first one. I highly recommend you do that before you watch this film if you don’t have time to rewatch the first one.

I’m not gonna spoil it, but the film starts out like the original and quickly goes into a different direction. A system of rules has been established amongst the people in the Pit on distribution of the food equally. I won’t go further but the main plot revolves around that premise.

We are given insight on how the people are chosen for the Pit. And shown how the Authority moves the prisoners from different levels. This gives the audience some theories on the location of the Pit.

A couple of characters from the first film have cameos.

The film ends just like the first, but there are some scenes that give some insight why.

When the end credits roll, continue watching, there are more scenes that introduce some major unexpected twists on what is actually going on.

They set it up for a “Platform 3”, hopefully it debuts soon.

Like the first film, it’s from Spain, Netflix has it dubbed in English.

Looking forward to it.

Synopsis

After a mysterious leader imposes his law in a brutal system of vertical cells, a new arrival battles against a dubious food distribution method.

This shit was the same as the first movie, I'm left with the same questions I had from the first.

I heard good things about that one.

I've heard some great reviews for The Wild Robot so far.

I watched Didi last month ... it was pretty good. Felt believable.

I've heard mixed reviews for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

I've seen and read all the bad reviews for Joker 2 so far ... damn.

I'm watching the Wild robot this weekend, Beetle Juice was kinda boring I only watched it half way, Joker 2 is for theater kids who are into musicals. Haven't seen Didi but if you like those coming of age indy type movies check out Hot Summer Nights with Timothy Chamalet.

Hope you enjoy The Wild Robot.

I'm still surprised it took some 36 years for the Beetlejuice sequel.

Joker 2 definitely seems like one big swing and a miss. So many bad reviews.

Agreed re: Hot Summer Nights ... saw that one previously.

Yeah - if you get around to Didi sometime ... let me know what you think of it. I liked what I saw ... there's some good non-verbal acting at times from the lead actor in his interactions with his sister, mom, friend groups, etc.

and the winner for the most blood in a movie in 2024. Shockingly it topped Terrifier 3.

The Substance

Another movie that isn't for those who can't handle horror or body horror. I don't think it was for everyone, because it is sort of artsy. I was one of the few people who was laughing. It has a lot of humor in it and Dennis Quaid is purposefully over the top playing the stereotypical Hollywood guy.

Demi Moore did her thing. Has a lot to say on Hollywood, ageism and the obsession of beauty and youth. It seemed like it traded what it was trying to say, in giving background or explanation.

I'm not sure if I liked the ending. It was out there. I still enjoyed the movie a lot overall. It kept me interested despite the run time. I'll probably have it in my top 10.

Smile 2

The first five minutes was the best part of the movie :dunno:

Naomi Scott did a good job. Its a lot of tight face shots and she has to display her emotions.

This movie didn't seem like a cheap remake, they took some time with it. It did break my rule, I don't believe any horror movie should be over an hour and 45 minutes...and you could feel this excess in this. It should have been about 15 - 20 minutes shorter. You feel it at times. The whole is this real, did this really happen thing also got sort of old. As did the jump scares.

Still, it's a pretty enjoyable time and if you liked the first, you should like the second.

Outside on Netflix. It's in English.

A broken family is forced to stay together because of a zombie apocalypse. For safety reasons, the dad relocates the family back to his old family home, which he left when he was younger due to familial problems. Staying in the house, however, causes the dad psychological problems.

The wife wants to leave to find help, but the dad--due to his psychological problems wants to stay locked in the house. The wife--who likely would have divorced the dad but for the apocalypse can't stand it. Drama ensues.

I thought this was a good movie. There aren't as many zombie encounters as one would think. But the movie almost didnt need them, because the family drama was so intense. It reminded of a mix between the movies The Shining and The Mosquito Coast, but with some zombies mixed in them. It's worth a watch on a boring day. I'd grade it a solid B.

The Silent Hour

I actually enjoyed portions of this film despite it being ultra predictable. As Boston police detective Frank Shaw who suddenly turns deaf after getting injured, while pursuing a suspect Joel Kinnaman turns in a good performance and he has great chemistry with actress Sandra Mae Frank also very good as Ava who was a witness to a double homicide. I actually liked the scenes of Shaw trying to cope with certain hurdles in life and his bonding with Ava than the action scenes which there are not many of. As soon as one character says about four lines of dialogue I knew exactly what was going to happen in what was supposed to be a major twist. I always wonder when movies are structured in a way would it have worked better as a series.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7

Little Bites

This is that true slow and i mean slow burn horror. I did find several things to enjoy in this movie though. There were some truly horrifying and gory moments. I even laughed a few times.
Krsy Fox, who reminds me of Hilary Swank was good as Mindy Vogel a widow and mother dealing with a haunting creature that needs to feed. The creature design was pretty good.
There are times when a movie is to ambiguous, a good story is set up but takes a long time not to really get anywhere. I actually wish the movie had leaned more into a Little Shop of Horrors vibe with a constant Feed Me chant. At least that would be held my interest.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 4½
