‘Snowpiercer’ Season 4 Officially Wraps Up Filming, Likely to Premiere this Winter

Snowpiercer is the last original scripted series on TNT which will end its run with Season 4 after Warner Bros. Discovery bailed on scripted programming

The fourth and final season of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller series, “Snowpiercer” has officially wrapped up filming this Friday in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The final season began production on March 28 this year and was halted on July 29 due to extreme heat conditions on the set.

“Snowpiercer” Season 4 is currently scheduled to complete the post-production work in December 2022, which means it will be ready by the end of this year. Although TNT is yet to confirm any date or month for the premiere, we can expect “Snowpiercer” Season 4 to premiere in December 2022 or January 2023 on TNT in the US and Netflix in select countries.

In June 2022, TNT confirmed that Snowpiercer will end its journey with the fourth season. It will also become the final scripted original series to air on TNT as Warner Bros. Discovery has halted original scripted series development at TNT. Animal Kingdom Season 6, which is also the final season of the series is currently airing on TNT.

The 10-episode fourth and final season will pick up in the aftermath of a rocket exploding on the Horizon as Bennett and Melanie are together now. Since season 4 is already confirmed to be the end of the journey, the series will reach a suitable conclusion and is unlikely to leave any unfinished story or cliffhanger.

In the Season 3 finale, Melanie and Layton strike an agreement in which they exile Wilford together on the track scaler and then give the people the option of continuing life on Snowpiercer with Melanie or exploring New Eden with Layton. The separation of the trains forces loved ones to say their goodbyes as they decide where to go; after Oz abandons her, LJ chokes to death on her father's glass eye, while Till decides to stay with Audrey on Snowpiercer at the last minute and Bennett stays after Melanie commits herself fully to their relationship. Big Alice is derailed by the tough track to the Horn of Africa, but everyone escapes and finds the outdoors to be warm and hospitable.

Paul Zbyszewski is the showrunner of Snowpiercer Season 4 along with executive producing the series with Christoph Schrewe, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt, and Scott Derrickson, and the original film’s producers, Bong, Park Chan-wook, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. Tomorrow Studios along with CJ Entertainment are the producers of the series with ITV handling the international distribution.

"Snowpiercer" is set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, and it follows the last of humanity who live aboard a continually moving train with 1001 cars that circles the globe. It is based on the same-named graphic novel and 2013 film starring Chris Evans. The series stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Rowan Blanchard, Sean Bean, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Iddo Goldberg, Annalise Basso, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Steven Ogg.

Snowpiercer’ Names New Showrunner For Season 4, Adds Clark Gregg & Michael Aronov To Cast

March 28, 2022 3:35PM PDT

Production got underway today in Vancouver, Canada on Season 4 of TNT’s Snowpiercer, with new cast members Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D ) and Tony winner Michael Aronov (The Drop). Additionally, Emmy nominee Paul Zbyszewski (Lost), has been named showrunner and executive producer for Season 4. He takes over for Graeme Manson who was named showrunner in 2018, replacing Josh Friedman.

The news comes just ahead of tonight’s Season 3 finale, which airs at 9 PM on TNT.

In the most recent ninth episode, Layton (Daveed Diggs), Ben (Iddo Goldberg), Josie (Katie McGuinness), Alex (Rowan Blanchard) and Javi (Roberto Urbina) band together to rescue Melanie (Jennifer Connelly). Relieved to find her alive, she is brought back on board the train safely, resulting in a blowout party on the train. The celebration is short-lived however when Melanie exposes Layton for misleading the passengers by offering hope of finding a viable existence in New Eden.

“We have been blessed with an abundance of riches in building the world of Snowpiercer – from the incredible cast and crew, to the loyal fanbase and the building blocks afforded from the film and graphic novel. Tonight’s finale is the culmination of several storylines, with unexpected twists and turns around every corner, and leading to an exciting fourth season with Paul’s vision and creative storytelling continuing the incredible show momentum,” said executive producers Graeme Manson and Aubrey Nealon.

“I’m so grateful to everyone at TNT and Tomorrow Studios for letting me join the riveting world of Snowpiercer that Graeme and Aubrey have so beautifully crafted and built,” said Zbyszewski. “We have an exciting fourth season planned, and I can’t wait to be on set with such an incredible cast and crew as we continue to explore new worlds, create new mysteries, and develop character relationships.”

“The success of Snowpiercer has always been due to the dedicated, innovative storytellers at the helm, and the incredible talent in front of and behind the camera,” said Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain, co-heads of scripted original programming for TBS, TNT and truTV. “We’re so excited for what Paul has in store for next season and we are thrilled to welcome our new cast members.”

“Graeme and Aubrey masterfully brought the thrilling world and unique characters of ‘Snowpiercer’ to life, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their contributions,” said Founder/CEO Marty Adelstein and Partner/President Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios. “We are excited for fans to see Paul thrillingly propel the complex journey of Snowpiercer even further with Christoph continuing in his role as directing executive producer, especially as Clark and Michael join our incredibly talented cast.”

Snowpiercer season four will be executive produced by Zbyszewski, Christoph Schrewe, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt and Scott Derrickson, and the original film’s producers Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. The show is produced by Tomorrow Studios, along with CJ Entertainment. ITV Studios handles international distribution.

Snowpiercer's fourth and final season scrapped at TNT despite completing production

Tomorrow Studios says it hopes to find a new partner for the derailed sci-fi show.

By Lauren HuffJanuary 13, 2023 at 07:45 PM EST

Snowpiercer fans have just been given some apocalyptically bad news: The fourth and final season of the dystopian sci-fi show will not air on TNT as originally planned, despite finishing production.
"We can confirm that TNT will not air season four of Snowpiercer," a network spokesperson said Friday in a statement to EW. "This was a difficult decision, but our admiration for the talented writers, actors and crew who brought Snowpiercer's extraordinary post-apocalyptic world to life remains strong. We have been working collaboratively with the producers since last year to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy the compelling story and exceptional visual experience. We look forward to working with them on future projects."

It may not be the end of the world, though. Producer Tomorrow Studios says it hopes to find a new partner for the series "shortly" in order to get the final episodes to fans. Deadline Hollywood reports that the ultimate goal is to build a franchise, including a prequel and sequel.

Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein and president Becky Clements said in a statement, "We love Snowpiercer and believe season 4 completes a story with incredible talent that will entertain viewers while exploring issues of climate change and class warfare. We are so passionate about this series that we have acquired the rights to control the franchise. We hope to find the perfect partner shortly and finish a great ride with the final season."
Based on the 2013 film of the same name, which was in turn based on a graphic novel, Snowpiercer follows the remains of humanity in post-apocalypse 2026, after they've taken to living on a perpetually moving train to shelter from the icy landscape the world has become. The cast includes Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Rowan Blanchard, and Roberto Urbina, and season 4 was to add Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov.

Snowpiercer was the last remaining scripted series at Warner Bros. Discovery, the company that resulted from the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc. in April. The show's untimely end marks the latest in a wave of cancellations and write-downs at WBD, including the J.J. Abrams sci-fi series Demimonde, the DC film Batgirl, the HBO Max comedy series Minx, and TBS' Chad.

WHAT THE FLYING FUCK!!!

The mofo is on a network that gets advertising revenue.

With it being the final season, it definitely will have high ratings with plenty of eyeballs watching.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THEM?

It’s like Warner Bros. is doing everything they can to drive the studio into bankruptcy.

2025 by then they may cancel it again. But in 2024 I know where to get it.

The series officially ended with season 4.

Warner Bros. made the decision to not air it.

We been waiting for over a year for another network/streaming service to air the final season.

Definitely looking forward to it!!!

I mean by that time AMC can decide not to air it if the reviews are not good on plus.

Snowpiercer saved by AMC, fourth and final season will debut in 2025

The post-apocalyptic train will be leaving the station one more time.
By Shania Russell

Updated on March 14, 2024

Snowpiercer is no longer frozen in time.

More than a year after the post-apocalyptic drama was scrapped at TNT without ever airing its completed fourth and final season, the show has been rescued by AMC Networks. Season 4 will now hit AMC and AMC+ next year, and the first three seasons will be available to stream later this year.

"Snowpiercer is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with a loyal fanbase — similar to the passionate fandoms we serve across our biggest franchise series — and a welcome addition to AMC and AMC+," said Ben Davis, executive VP of original programming at AMC Networks and AMC Studios, in an announcement Thursday. "We look forward to giving viewers an opportunity to binge the first three seasons later this year, in anticipation of the arrival of a remarkable fourth season helmed by Paul Zbyszewski and this stellar cast, which will premiere in 2025."

Showrunner Paul Zbyszewski added, "We're so thrilled the train has finally found a home, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone at AMC and Tomorrow Studios for giving the fans of Snowpiercer a chance to enjoy season four with all the hard work this amazing cast and crew put into it."

The series originally aired on TNT, but after WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc. merged into Warner Bros. Discovery, the network — and its sister channels TBS and TruTV — pivoted away from scripted television. Following Snowpiercer's cancellation, producer Tomorrow Studios expressed a desire to find a new home for the series and ultimately build out a franchise, including a prequel and sequel.

Based on Bong Joon Ho's 2013 film of the same name, which was itself based on a graphic novel, Snowpiercer follows what remains of humanity in post-apocalyptic 2026, after the Earth has frozen into an icy landscape. The last survivors live on a giant train circling the globe, their only shelter from the cold, and struggle to maintain a delicate balance onboard on their endless journey. The cast includes Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Rowan Blanchard, and Roberto Urbina, with season 4 adding Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov.

Is this series any good?

It’s interesting. It plays out differently than the film.

The first two seasons is heavy on character development.

Season 3 introduces the 2nd train and new characters.

Season 4, Final season introduces new characters.

While watching, don’t go into it like “Neil Degrasse Tyson” getting all scientific about shit making no sense.

The biggest question you will have is who the Fuck is maintaining the infrastructure the train is operating on, like keeping ice off the tracks, checking the track is operational to run on and not causing derailments, maintaining bridges/trestles and tunnels.

Just watch it for what it is. Entertainment.
