Stuart Scott (1965-2015)

It's starting to hit me too that these tributes they airing were made probably a few weeks ago, even before Christmas. He just died this morning, no way these tributes could have been done all this morning. Call me slow, just realizing that. But maybe Stu gave them word that his time was about up. Some want their obituaries to be done while they are still alive.

That's how the industry is. It's not done out of malice or anything else. When news breaks people want it right away...they've been working on it since his speech.

Britney Spears has had an OBIT in the can for years now. I've done several OBIT pieces for people who are still alive. Morbid, I know.

I'm in my mid 20's so Stuart is one of those guys you sort of grew up on. I commend how he ended his life. He was doing the MMA training and living the life like he wanted. Very sad day for sports and the lives he effected. For me he made highlights more than simply great plays by athletes.

Rest in peace Stuart.

Very sad.

That ESPY's speech he gave.....I guess was his farewell speech. It was sad at the time and even sadder now thinking about it.

 :smh: this one hurts.. RIP

Man I went to a best friend's mother funeral yesterday(shot in the head by robber @ her corner store), now this today wow...

The folks that have the strength to hold back the tears I applaud y'all...

When a person is taking away, it's hard.
Stu and Chris is ESPN's Sport-center for me, probably many of y'all also.

When he started having problems with his eye, I kinda thought some serious was going on.

Yea, watching the tributes today it became apparent to me that they must have known he was in bad shape for a while now. I remember a few weeks back Suzy Kolber (who fills in for him on the Monday Night Countdown show when he's out) was talking about him and got emotional saying how sometimes you need the support of your friends and had everyone hold hands on the set. It made me wonder if he wasn't doing well.

R.I.P. to an icon and true example of strength and determination who entertained many and inspired many more.

Love you Stu Scott,

Man dude had a beast work out regimen also,he seemed healthy as an ox. His and Hers interviewed him back in the Summer you all should go check it out

Rest in Peace Stu. A joy for me and many to watch since becoming a young man and also an inspiration to many as evidenced by all the condolences and expressions of sadness. This completely sucks man. :( :( :(

That's what I'm saying

That shit is weird
It isn't weird.

If he passed away and they had nothing - what would you think then? They're privy to more information about Stuart Scott than anyone does here, unless they're family or work for ESPN also.

So they get started on it when things take a turn for the worse...you update it as things change...you hope never to use it, but to have it to honor the man and pay your respects...Stuart Scott dying is big news. People are posting about it on FB that I had no idea knew who he was...he had a huge impact in sports journalism, one of the biggest impacts in modern sports journalism for sure.

It's just a part of the game. It's the young reckless people where OBIT pieces are truly strange.

And I guarantee something like that is produced with the utmost respect and care - in Stuart Scott's case.

Stu last twitter message was November 14, no other social online presence since so maybe that was the turn for the worst point. That is why ESPN had all these tributes pre-recorded. Probably was in his last days the while month of December because it seems like all these tributes were recorded and just placed on hold until the passing of Stu.
