‘Saturday Night Live’: Eminem Appears in Pete Davidson’s Christmas ‘Stan’ Parody

By Danielle Turchiano

NBC
Before “stan” was a colloquialism used to describe obsessive fandom, it was a hit single off Eminem’s 2000 album “The Marshall Mathers LP.” Now, two decades later, comedian Pete Davidson parodied the song on “Saturday Night Live” by turning it into a twisted Christmas anthem, “Stu,” and the rapper himself got in on the fun.
With his hair bleached blond, as Eminem’s was in the late-1990s and early 200s, and wearing a white tank top as Devon Sawa did in the music video for “Stan,” Davidson descended down some basement steps to write his letter to Santa, which you can watch in the video above.
Surrounded by cut-out photos of jolly ole Saint Nick, he began, “Dear Santa / I can’t believe the year is almost over / it’s getting colder, I’m a year older but I’m still your soldier.”

Rather than wax nostalgic about his love for the man in the red coat who brings joy and presents to children all over the world, Davidson’s track turned into a plea for one present he wanted this year, aka “the only thing keeping me alive / Dear Santa, please bring me a PS5.”

He rapped: “I tried to buy one at Walmart / ran around the shop mall like Paul Blart / tried to find one for sale / but the thing is they’re all out / yo, I even went to a Gamestop / but then I was like, ‘Oh wait stop’ / Santa Claus can make one, the man got his own workshop.”
He also borrowed some of the original song’s lyrics, such as, “I know you probably hear this every day” (only instead of “I’m your biggest fan,” as in “Stan,” he followed up that line with, “you got a cool hat”) and “I even got a tattoo of your name across my chest.”
The music video sketch aired in the Dec. 5 episode of the late-night sketch comedy show, with that week’s guest host Jason Bateman portraying Santa Claus. Chloe Fineman, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett played elves in Santa’s workshop who grew increasingly concerned by the continued letters they received from Stu.
After his first one was not answered, Davidson’s Stu wrote again, with lyrics including, “If you can’t help your biggest fan then you should just retire / or next time you slide down my chimney I’ll set your ass on fire.”
Eminem’s “Stan” featured Dido singing the chorus, and Kate McKinnon took on that role in “Stu.” But Eminem and Sir Elton John also famously dueted the track at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards, so Bowen Yang took on the Rocket Man for a verse, too.
“Stu is waiting for his surprise / to open up a PS5 / he just really wants to play / “Assassin’s Creed” on Christmas Day / but he can’t buy it himself because he lost his job because he was stealing from his boss / I’d be worried, Stu’s a scary guy / a scary guy,” McKinnon sang.
Yang’s verse went: “This year Christmas will be bad / ’cause Santa sucks and Stu is sad / He already asked you really nicely and now he’s really pissed off / I’m just telling you ’cause I like you a lot / I’m a big fan of Santa Claus / and I also want a PS5, a PS5.”
For his last letter, Davidson was in a car, recording himself while driving in the rain: “Dear Mr. Holly Jolly Son of a Bitch / I hope you crash your sleigh and end up face down in a ditch,” Davidson rapped toward the end. “I guess the great Saint Nick can’t even track down a PS5 / Hey Santa, I drank a fifth of eggnog, dare me to drive?”

The end of “Stan” finally sees Em respond to the author of the letters with a verse of his own, so naturally Bateman took a turn behind the mic, so to speak, simply saying, “Dear Stu, I think you got the wrong address bro. I’m not Santa Claus, bye bye.”
Eminem popped up at the very end of the video, shown on the television screen in Davidson’s basement. Whereas it had been playing cartoons of Santa earlier in the video, the screen went to color bars before showing a present with a label for Shady, from Santa. Eminem appeared in a holiday sweater, revealing he received a PS5 even though he “didn’t even ask for this.”
“I guess Shady must have been a good boy this year,” the rapper said. “Sorry Stu, you f—ed up.”
“Stan” was released as the third single off “The Marshall Mathers LP” album, which was Eminem’s third studio album. It was nominated for five MTV Video Music Awards in 2001, as well as a BET Award for Video of the Year, and a Best Song award from MTV Europe’s music awards.

WHERE TO WATCH

Saturday Night Live just took writing letters to Santa to a very dark place.
This weekend's Jason Bateman-fronted episode featured a prerecorded sketch starring Pete Davidson as Saint Nick's biggest fan in a spoof of Eminem's "Stan" that included a surprise cameo by the rapper himself.
In the parody, Davidson appears as Stu — a man with bleach blond hair and a white tank top identical to Stan's in the music video for the 2000 hit — who sits at a desk in a dark basement penning a letter to Mr. Claus. "Dear Santa, I can't believe the year is almost over," Davidson raps. "It's getting colder, I'm a year older, but I'm still your soldier."

Stu's Christmas list includes just one thing: a PlayStation 5, which have been flying off the shelves this season. "Getting this present is the only thing keeping me alive," Stu writes. "Dear Santa Claus, please bring me a PS5."
When his letter goes unanswered, an increasingly unhinged Stu says if Santa's not willing to grant his wish he "should just retire" or warns next time Santa slides down the chimney he'll "set your ass on fire."

The musical parody also features Kate McKinnon, in a spot-on Dido impression, singing the chorus about Stu being a "scary guy," and a hilarious appearance by Bowen Yang as Elton John — spoofing the duo's famed 2002 Grammys performance of "Stan" — belting out a recap of events and asking Santa for a PS5 of his own.

The sketch ends with Santa (Bateman) finally responding to Stu, only to completely dismiss him. And finally, a quick shot reveals the real Eminem opening up a Christmas gift from Santa. You guessed it, the coveted PS5. "I didn't even ask for this," the rapper exclaims. "I guess Shady must have been a good boy this year. Sorry, Stu, you f---ed up."
Shortly after airing, the sketch got the stamp of approval from the original Stan, actor Devon Sawa, who tweeted out the SNL video, writing: "Stu > Stan."

In a sad, upsetting addendum to a fake press release sent out earlier this week, falsely announcing the launch of Pete Davidson’s production company, as well as his marriage, TMZ reports that police have taken into custody a woman who entered a Staten Island home owned by the Saturday Night Live cast member on Thursday. Michelle Mootreddy, law enforcement told TMZ, entered Davidson’s house through an open side door and took a seat at his kitchen table. While the comedian himself wasn’t home, one of his relatives was, and subsequently called 911.
Mootreddy is allegedly the same person who sent out the fake press release on Tuesday to multiple outlets, claiming she and Davidson are launching a production company called Bodega Cats Presents, in addition to being spouses. “The press release being circulated this morning about Pete Davidson is completely false,” Davidson’s attorney told Complex in a statement later that day. “Not a word of it is true. Mr. Davidson has no idea who this person is. We are investigating and considering all legal and equitable remedies.”

Update, March 19: Per a report from the New York City Police Department, Mootreddy has been charged with criminal trespassing, trespassing, stalking, and harassment.

According to the report, after entering his home Thursday, she declared, “I’m here for Pete. Pete told me to come here.” Davidson’s mother, Amy Waters, was present in the house and told Mootreddy to leave, to which she replied, “I sent him packages.”
Following yesterday’s arrest, Mootreddy was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, Burglary in the Third Degree, Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, Criminal Trespass in the Third Degree, Stalking in the Third Degree, Stalking in the Fourth Degree, Trespass, and Harassment in the Second Degree. According to the document, “the Defendant was placed on supervised release and Full Order of Protections were issued.”

That ‘Kim’ Tattoo on Pete Davidson? It’s Actually a Branding
By Bethy Squires

Every part of this story is perplexing. Kim Kardashian went on Ellen (?) and revealed that new official boo Pete Davidson has multiple tattoos in reference to her (??). But that one on his chest that says “Kim” is actually a branding (???????). Like hot metal on flesh, Looney Tunes depiction of cattle ranching-ass branding. You may recall branding from the coverage of NXIVM, or when Bam got branded on the ass in Jackass Number Two. “I just think he was like, ‘I want something that’s there that I can’t, you know, get rid of my tattoos,’” Kardashian told DeGeneres. “He’s in the process of getting rid of his arm tats and his neck tats. So he’s like, ‘I don’t want to be able to get rid of it or cover it up and I just wanted it there as like a scar on me.’”

Aside from the branding, Davidson also has a tat that reads “My Girl is a Lawyer,” which is Kardashian’s favorite. But isn’t that a little hasty, Pete? Kim’s only passed the Baby Bar.

The final episode of Ellen will air May 26. The show announced a number of special guests for the final run, obtained by People. Besides Kardashian, they include Michelle Obama, Jennifer Garner, Channing Tatum, Serena Williams, Zac Efron, Adam Levine, Behati Prinsloo, Gwen Stefani, David Letterman, Diane Keaton, and Portia de Rossi.

SNL star Chris Redd says jokes about Kanye West-Pete Davidson drama may 'start flying soon'

But the comedian notes that "there is a serious layer to that situation that I just won't make fun of."
By Jessica WangMarch 17, 2022 at 07:13 PM EDT

Saturday Night Live has been treading lightly when it comes to addressing Kanye West's very public feud with cast member Pete Davidson over his relationship with Ye's ex Kim Kardashian. But it sounds like it's only a matter of time before the drama makes its way onto the Studio 8H stage.
During an appearance on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show on Wednesday, SNL star Chris Redd said the jokes may "start flying soon." Redd, who has impersonated West (now legally known as Ye) in sketches, also discussed the complicated layers of the Kanye-Pete quarrel, clarifying that his impersonations aren't intended to belittle West's mental health struggles.
"When it comes to Ye, I'm always of the mind that that I'll make fun," Redd said. "Look, I was raised joking. You clown. You clown people. That's kind of how we come up. We're from the same place. We know the same people, but at the same time, there is a serious layer to that situation that I just won't make fun of. Like, I'm not making fun of his mental health."

Redd cited his own mental health issues, adding, "I'm very aware of those things. And I never come from that place of making fun of that specifically. [Ye's] irresponsibility of it is what I make fun of and his ego, but it's never those things."

As far as Redd and the show not yet addressing the beef, he said, "When it's gotten really public and tight, it's just better not to put your friend in a weird situation by antagonizing a situation more than you need to."
That said, Redd is still a comedian, and "really tired of sitting on these jokes."
He continued: "I think Pete's handling it well and you know, he's starting to talk again… So I think these jokes gonna start flying soon. You always wanna make sure on both sides of it, even though me and Ye aren't friends, I want the best for that dude too. I'm still a fan of his music, you know? I hope that he like learns how to handle this, so they could just move on with their lives. But yeah, it's not interesting to me to stir the pot on something that's just unhealthy."

Davidson has been dating Kardashian since last fall, following her SNL hosting debut. Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February 2021, after almost seven years of marriage. She was declared legally single earlier this month and dropped "West" from her last name.
West meanwhile has been expressing his disapproval of his ex's relationship on social media and through his music, rapping about "beating [Davidson's] ass" in his new song "Eazy" and releasing an accompanying music video in which he buries a claymation Davidson.
