It's a decent movie nothing great but not complete trash either. I saw it through T Mobile so not having to pay to see it may be making me less judgemental. The way that things were wrapped up with the villain could have been a lot better and Batman was not necessary. Also why did Killer Croc have to be the black stereotype?

I'm not going lie. When he said he wanted BET, I laughed. That was racist. Before he jumped into the water, he had alone that was clearly meant to be something similar to the hulks.

I hated this movie.

I guess I'm not aligned with the DCU because I hated this more than BvS.

I'm sitting out the rest of these movies, I'm done.

I'll have a more concise and coherent review later I'm just shocked.

Total let down.

This movie sucked!where did all the camaraderie that they had come from they just met each other and they hated people so why would they care about each other. They should have showed them go on multiple missions building up that they care or respect each other

Damn homie

looks like the critics were right.

as a lifelong comic head who became a comic head on Tim Burton/Micheal Keaton's Batman...for the life of me i dont know why DC cant get their shit in order.
this aint about Marvel vs DC. its about DC making an entertaining competent comic book film. With their last batch of films being Man of Steel & BvsS i walked out the theatre apathetic at best and angry at worst. I didnt have fun, i i wasnt entertained and i wasnt Happy. I have yet to watch a Marvel flick where i felt this way.

DC get your shit together

I enjoyed it. Go see it for yourself. I will have to just disagree with those who hate it like anyone who hates Man of Steel.

I fucking went to see it.

I wasn't trying to go but a girl I been fucking with recently wanted to chill.

Fucked, ate, went to movies. Just dropped her off.

I wanted to see Lights Out but there wasn't anymore shows after the 9:00 wtf!

But they had suicide squad on 4 screens including 3D. :hmm:

I was waiting for that BGOL Hollywood hook up. Now I done spent my money on this movie and the shit was dull.

End rant now let me get to this review.

----------Review May Contain Spoilers----------

Let me get the lil bits of good out first before I thrash this piece of shit from DC.

DeadShot was the man. Will did his thing with the character. Ya know typical Will, not a whole lot of emotion but he delivers the best lines of dialogue of all the characters. He is like the leader of the suicide squad. I like his backstory as well. Fuck Batman for taking a good dad away from his daughter, Bruce Wayne should know better.

Harley Quinn was ok. She provided the typical eye candy for the movie. Dress skimpy and look cute provide a lil sexual innuendo through dialogue. I expected a more twisted charm from her but barely got that, she looked the part tho.

Joker looked every bit of the cool rock star villain. No personality but he had style. Everyone will be him and Harley Quinn this Halloween.

Viola Davis as Amanda Waller was decent. I personally wish they would ratcheted up the bitch factor for her character and made her more of a hard ass but she played her role well.

I didn't like how they described and depicted Croc. You'll see what I mean. The subliminals are obvious but I guess we're suppose to ignore them cuz at least we got DeadShot. But I liked how they made him look, just hard to deliver his lines through all that makeup.

All the character had style I guess to make up what they were lacking in substance and personality in the story.

The movie was entertaining if you are easily impressed and starving for excitement. But if your like me and kinda jaded by all these action movies and their simple tricks and had high expectations it will do what others didn't you'll be extremely disappointed.

I believe in great action and great story with great characters. I don't believe you have to sacrifice one for the other. I don't believe this is a lot to ask.

If you want to see something to pass the time Suicide Squad will serve that purpose. If your looking for action that stays true to comic that can deliver thrills competing with Marvels line up, keep your money in your wallet.

Note.

This movie sucked big blue donkey balls.

I'm pissed, 1 I paid for this shit 2 it's an extremely underwhelming movie.

It was pretty stale and generic. Same gags and reel jokes you've seen a thousand times from team up buddy flicks vs bad guys. The character archetypes were too cliche. You know the quirks, the crazy one, the hot shot, the brute, the monster, the magical one, the uptight hard ass, the shy but extremely deadly one and the cliche Japanese samurai. :hmm: I mean there is a way to do cliche w/o it feeling cliche, c'mon.

I don't know why the executives insist on fucking with the story and characters as if they know what the fuck they are doing. Stay the fuck out of the creative process!

Nothing about this movie came close to feeling suicidal. They should have stuck closer to the storyline from the animation. You can't assemble a suicide squad for a save the world disaster.

It doesn't fit the characters abilities nor sense of humor. You can't shoot up a magical demon, you can't blow up a magical demon, you can't beat a magical demon with a mallet or bat. Especially one who turns whoever it touches into pimple monsters. :hmm: Why would such a demon show respect to the suicide squad and fight them like an equal instead of just wiping them out. (I know I know I'm suppose to suspend disbelief) :hmm:

BTW during all of a that, where the fuck was the justice league? Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman. It's like, "Oh we're just gonna sit out on this world disaster it's the weekend. The United States government and the suicide squad can handle extreme threats to humanity alone, a lot better than we can." Ijs they acting like its a connected universe.

Suicide squad needed a more down to earth mission. One that highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of each character, where we can really see why they are an assest to the team and Amanda Waller and for the audiences entertainment, some character they can warm up too.

They had all these special skills but all they really did was punch, kick, shoot a bunch of magical baddies, nothing really cool or impressive about it. I expected DeadShot to be doing some fancy trick shots that appear impossible to make to rescue the team. Harley Quin to do some absolutely crazy on the edge of your seat death defying stunt. Croc to do something superior disgusting and/or bad ass. Boomerang to do some tricky shot. The only character that barely made a memorable impression was DeadShot. Deadhsot is the lead in this movie btw but you can tell they didn't want him to be. What I mean is Harely Quinn and Joker romance felt like it was competing or interfering with the screentime with the flashbacks.

Also why they gotta kill my man Common like that? Black lives don't matter. Typical Hollywood bring a nigga in just to kill him off. That scene was for the white boys who hate feeling cuckold by black men. lol just my opinion.

Someone mentioned the editing is poor in this movie and they were correct. Someone doesn't know how to make transitions. They just copy and pasted scene together.

I have more criticism but I've already typed a lot. This is what DC get rushing through things. This movie was way worse than BvS. Looks like they made some of the same type of mistakes tho. How long are we suppose to allow them to keep selling us shit? The packaging is always so much better than the product. :smh:

How Warner Bros. Opened ‘Suicide Squad’ To $146M+ – Saturday AM Update
ss-ii.jpg

4TH UPDATE, Saturday,WRITETHRU 8AM:
This morning industry weekend estimates for Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad have risen to $146M-plus after a $65M Friday. Combined with the pic’s three-day foreign run of $64.6M, Suicide Squad‘s current global cume stands at $130M.

But, when it comes to the audience and critics’ response to the film, it’s deja-vu all over again. Like Batman v. Superman, which earned a 27% Rotten Tomatoes score and B CinemaScore, Suicide Squad isgetting panned by critics (26%) and has registered an above average response from CinemaScore crowds who gave it a B+ tonight. We’ll assess the long-term ramification of this in a bit, but Warner Bros. marketing department needs to be applauded here for delivering the third-best domestic opening of 2016 to date, the second best of the summer (after Captain America: Civil War‘s $179.1M) and the best opening of Will Smith’s career. Suicide Squad continues to validate Warner Bros.’ ability to capitalize on its brands.

suicide-squad1.jpg

At the beginning of the summer, rival distribution heads didn’t know whether to make heads or tails about Suicide Squad‘s prospects. After watching Warner Bros. get beat up by crowds and critics despite its $872.7M global business, distributors didn’t know if the DC villain film would work. Warner Bros. executives weren’t cocky either about Suicide Squad’s potential. However, they put their heads down, tubthumbed the hell out of this movie, and saved it from being collateral damage in the wake of BvS.

The first thing that Warner Bros. did right in regards to jumpstarting the buzz onSuicide Squad was releasing the Comic-Con sizzle reel for the movie a year ago, rather than making it a precious commodity for Comic-Con attendees. Fanboys were stoked by it. That’s why they pirated it and spread it around the web. Warner Bros. listened and dropped their high quality version online promptly.

But when BvS was flogged for being too dark and serious at the end of March, news hit that Suicide Squad was returning for reshoots (some say that cost the studio an extra $22M, which is included in the pic’s estimated $175M production cost). Ayer insisted in interviews and on Twitter that Warner Bros. was just granting him creative license to add more elements.

Suicide Squad star Jai Courtney also mentioned that the film already had enough humor in it prior to the reshoots, and that it was just about lensing more action scenes. However, there are others who insist that the reshoots were definitely about supplying more humor, and that those moments wound up in subsequent trailers. Whatever side of the story is true, the point is by the time CinemaCon rolled around in April, there was a brand new, kick-ass “Ballroom Blitz” trailer that Warner Bros. dazzled exhibitors with. Arguably, that was the turning point in Suicide Squad‘s campaign that changed the industry’s attitude toward the movie post BvS. Warner Bros. kept dropping trailers through Comic-Con; Margot Robbie’s sexy-sassy Harley Quinn gradually grabbed the spotlight and became the pic’s ‘It’ girl, fashioned on T-shirts online and a Loot Crate promotion.

By mid June, ComScore’s PreAct noticed that Suicide Squad was already owning the social media conversation after dropping character posters and debuting the Twenty One Pilots music video “Heathens” off the new soundtrack with new footage. In the weeks to come, Suicide Squad would lord over other summer movies like Star Trek Beyond and Ghostbusters, as well as other highly anticipated titles like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Warner Bros’ own Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Suicide Squad was the most buzzed-about title on social during Comic-Con week (July 18-24) with 231K conversations to Wonder Woman’s 151K and Justice League’s110K. Suicide Squad continued to reign atop PreAct’s chart through July 21 with 172K conversations for the week and a running total of two million-plus.

With a social reach close to 600M across Facebook, Instagram Twitter, and YouTube views, Suicide Squad’s social reach is considered exceptional by RelishMix. The film’s Facebook page in recent days added 80K likes per day, which is off the charts by the social media monitor’s measure. Smith is tubthumping to his 75M Facebook fans, Cara Delevinge pumped up the DC adaptation to her 43M, while Jared Leto has reached out to his 13M. Despite the bad reviews, certain flags on social indicated how big Suicide Squad was bound to be: Its 26 videos on the film’s playlist have chalked up 163M views. The“Heathens” music video has clocked close to 75M views on YouTube.

Overall, the conversation online has been extremely positive per RelishMix, with fans who’ve already seen the film leading the positive word of mouth charge. Some are still talking about the footage that dropped at Comic-Con last summer, while others are chatting up the film’s string of bad guys.

In regards to the critical and audience reception for Suicide Squad, it’s still up in the air how much mileage this DC feature property has. In relation to its $166M opening,BvS had a two multiple when it finaled domestic with $330.36M (just $2.8M short of overtaking Guardians of the Galaxy stateside). One non-Warner Bros. distribution suit waves off the negative reviews for Suicide Squad, predicting “In its first week, it’s going to make $230M to $250M!”

This is further bolstered by the fact that CinemaScore crowds under 35 gave Suicide Squad an A-, while 76% females gave it an A-. The pic also earned an A with the under 18 demo (28%). Smith and Robbie fans both gave it the film an A-, each group turning up at 30% each.

But Suicide Squad‘s weaker grades were with the middle-age folks with 25-34 year olds (22%) and 35-49 year olds (17%) giving it a B. That’s who dragged this pic’s CinemaScore down to a B+. Some think that a 60% second weekend decline is imminent. However, BvS didn’t have as many A-s as Suicide Squad. The other advantage that Suicide Squad has over BvS, is that there’s more kids out of school in the coming weekends. BvS’ business was largely frontloaded because of Easter weekend. Still, many reviews exclaim that there’s a good movie in Suicide Squad; it just missed the mark. Keep in mind it’s not just major outlets like The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and The Los Angeles Times flinging popcorn at Suicide Squad, but hipster outlets like Collider and Slate too). The mind wonders, if reviews were through the roof, how much higher would the box office be? Would Suicide Squad’s legs be any longer?

nine-lives.jpg

EuropaCorp
EuropaCorp’s Nine Lives, the weekend’s second wide entry is road kill in sixth with $6.6M. Why was this $30M tired trope even made? Didn’t anyone over there get the memo about the two Babemovies, Fox’s Doctor Dolittle films andLook Who’s Talking Now!? Apparently, late EuropaCorp exec and Nine Livesproducer Christophe Lambert wanted to make a sophisticated adult comedy about a despicable man, who hates cats, having his soul segued into a feline. Lambert, who was largely in charge of this project, was eventually persuaded by those around him that Nine Liveswould work better as a family film, and that the animals should talk (originally, audiences were suppose to pick up on the cat’s complex movements). In sum, he was enthralled by talking animals’ comedy hijinks. This was not a Luc Besson-shepherded project. At Europa, Lambert had his stack of projects, while Besson worked separately on his. Europa has an estimated $10M exposure on this movie after Montreal/Canada tax credits and foreign sales. Despite its distance from other family features on the summer schedule, moviegoers know they’ve seen better, i.e. Illumination/Uni’s The Secret Life of Pets which will reach close to $318.9M by Sunday, and Finding Dory which will near $474M by the end of the weekend. Those who actually spent money on Nine Lives, didn’t feel as though they wasted their life on it. They gave it a B+ CinemaScore with females at 62% giving it an A-. Over/under 25 was 50-50. The under 18 bunch turned out at 46%. Sixty percent of the audience turned up because they like talking animal comedies.

With a big gang like Suicide Squad on the marquee, as Anita Busch predicted during the week, testosterone fare is getting hit (i.e. Jason Bourne -63% and Star Trek Beyond with -61%), however, femme fare is serving women well (Bad Moms -41%) as well as family titles (Secret Life of Pets, -42%).

Just finish seeing it. It wasn't bad. The plot was predictable & you can actually tell where they cut the movie all up.

For all of you guys who aren't comic book readers, the Deadshot in the movie is actually more like how Rick Flag would be. I'm assuming that because Will Smith is the "STAR", they pushed the lines over to him. But if you watch it again, just think of Rick Flag speaking in place of Deadshot for about 80% of his scenes & tell me it wouldn't be a better movie.

Another issue I had is the criminal misuse of Captain Boomerang. I mean, he did his thing & all but when DC said it was going to be reshoots & some comedy was gonna be added, I thought for sure that Boomerang was gonna steal the movie. In the comic, Boomerang is an unlikable, racist, sexist asshole...but funny as shit. They showed some of it in the movie but it was like 30% of the true Captain Boomerang. I'm assuming they toned him down heavily for that PG rating.

Killer Croc was cool & unlike most people, I don't think they stereotyped him...they actually got his personality right. They just forgot his mood swings. El Diablo was basically authentic, although they shot their load early making him manifest his "god-power".

Harley Quinn is another reason why the plot was so off. I guarantee that DC changed most of the story to give her some shine, once they saw how she was skewering positive after only a few trailers. She actually did a good job & is one of the saving graces for this movie. My only complaint is that her Brooklyn accent is TERRIBLE. She sounds like Edith Bunker.

Joker was cool, needed to see more of him (not the flashback, I mean, his own thing), like how he's crazy, but crazy like a fox. Less chaos bringer, more organized chaos.

This Flash is gonna suck ass. They still got time to get homie from the TV show. I strongly suggest they do that.

And I still say Amanda Waller should have been played by the girl that was Precious. Viola did a damn good job but part of what makes Waller "The Wall" is her physical stature. I know in the current DCU, she's a tall, leggy sister but I'm partial to the short, black & fat one.

And the Enchantress & friends as the big bad guys sucked ass. Enchantress didn't even try to manipulate anyone, except that bullshit near the end. Her powers are teleporting & making mutated wart men? And she's been around for 6000+ years? Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. Terrible misuse of what could have been a bad ass, dramatic story with a hellafied ending.

All in all, worth your $10, but no true replay value unless they have an ultimate edition that makes it R rated.

‘Suicide Squad': List of Rumored Cut Scenes Teases a Much Darker Blockbuster
Suicide Squad just secured at least one big record for having the biggest August opening weekend in the history of the box office, unseating Guardians of the Galaxy in a quick swoop. The David Ayer-helmed DC adaptation had a great first week, but we’re starting to hear more and more about trouble behind the Warner Bros./DC curtain, from interpersonal drama to the shedding of several scenes to make the PG-13 cut. Now, Dark Horizons has located a list of rumored cut scenes, via a Reddit user, which you can take a look at below, that gives us a general sense of what might have been extracted from the original cut of the film.

Mind you, all of this is unconfirmed rumor – a post made by a random user on Reddit. Still, a lot of this sounds accurate, especially with Jared Leto‘s recent comments about myriad cut scenes of the Joker withMargot Robbie‘ Harley Quinn. There’s also plenty of evidence in the film itself that scenes that built up Jai Courtney‘s Captain Boomerang and Joel Kinnaman‘s Rick Flag more were taken out in order to cut down on runtime and rating concerns. According to CBM, not only was the scene where Flash (Ezra Miller) captures Boomerang added in after the original cut, but scenes where Deadshot fought Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Boomerang’s exit before the climax is explained, and other interactions between Deadshot and Flag, as well as Boomerang and Harley, also found their way onto the cutting room floor.

Ayer has said that the film is his director’s cut, which does not bode well for anyone, but perhaps when this hunk of nonsense hits Blu-ray, we’ll see a few deleted scenes that can either confirm or deny this. Patience, DC fans, patience!

Here’s the rumored list of cut scenes via Reddit:
-In early cuts, the movie’s opening detailed June Moone’s possession by Enchantress in real time. Reshoots reshuffled the scene to be later in the movie in flashback form in favor of a new opening centered on Deadshot.

-Deadshot in the prison cell, watching the rain fall and thinking about his daughter.

suicide-squad-diablo.jpg

-El Diablo observing the flame of a lit match, before putting it out due to his vow to no longer use his powers.

-El Diablo being escorted to a training center by being placed in a tube that fills with water to quell his flames, and then unceremoniously dropped onto the ground.

-Early interviews mentioned Captain Boomerang’s racism and sexism, but the movie is light on examples of such behavior, which have apparently been deleted. Most of them were reportedly directed at Katana, to whom Boomerang is attracted to.

-Early reports indicated more backstory for Killer Croc, revealing that he lived his entire life as a social outcast due to his physical deformities and has convinced himself that he is beautiful in his own way. Croc crossed paths with Batman while working as muscle-for-hire for numerous Gotham’s crime bosses, while secretly planning to take over one day. There were also scenes displaying his affinity for making sculptures out of discarded materials. Aside from jokes about Croc viewing himself as ‘beautiful,’ one of these were retained in the final cut.

-Also deleted was a scene where he (Croc) becomes sick at the helicopter escort to Midway City, throws up half-digested pieces of goat, and then eats them again, disgusting the nearby Navy Seals.

-Early cuts reportedly included a passing reference to Slipknot being a serial rapist, likely to further paint him as unsympathetic to the audience ahead of his own death.

-More scenes of Rick Flag and June Moone’s romantic relationship, including him reading the files of the Suicide Squad recruits after Waller delivers them to him.

-Another scene where Flag and Moone are out on a date.

-Extended scene of Joker interrogating Captain Griggs, including the line, “I can’t wait to show you my toys,” which was in every trailer, but was removed from the movie.

-Joker and his men escaping after shooting up a restaurant. Harley, who is already affiliated with the Joker, follows them on a motorcycle and intercepts their car. Joker bangs his head against the glass in frustration.

-Joker and Harley then get into a fight, which ends with Harley pointing a gun at Joker’s head. Joker sweet-talks Harley into lowering the gun, charming her, then backhands her across the face. Afterwards he sweet-talks her again and they kiss.

-Extended Ace Chemicals scene where Harley jumps into the chemicals. More bits of dialogue by the Joker.

-Extended Batmobile chase scene with more interaction between Joker and Harley. One of the examples, presented in all the trailers, is the Joker punching the roof of his car.

harleyquinn.jpg

-Harley using her baseball bat as a mock gun to play shoot at invisible foes.

-Extended scene of Joker breaking into the nanobomb manufacture facility to arrange for Harley’s neck-bomb to be disabled.

-More interactions between Harley and Boomerang. Early cuts apparently included her really disliking him despite growing affectionate to all other members of the squad.

suicide-squad-trailer-2-3-bar-scene.jpg

-Extended bar scene with Harley taking everyone’s orders. Deadshot calls for a shot, Katana wants whiskey, Croc and Boomerang settle for beer, Harley asks Diablo wants and he prefers water which she jokes, is “a good idea.” The scene was featured in the trailers, but in the movie it cuts directly to Deadshot’s speech about them almost pulling the mission off.

-Removed several scenes with the Joker to repaint his relationship with Harley as more loving rather than abusive.

-Joker and Harley get into an argument after he rescues her in the hijacked helicopter. In early cuts he reportedly pushes her out to kill her, then the helicopter gets shot down. This was apparently reworked into the helicopter getting shot down first and Joker pushing her out to save her.

Jared-Leto-Joker-Suicide-Squad-Trailer-MTV.jpeg

-Joker returns during the final battle in the subway station, face half-burnt from the helicopter crash, which apparently leads to a brief altercation with the Suicide Squad. He calls for Harley to escape with him but she refuses for once in order to help her friends, and the Joker escapes after throwing a live grenade at the group to cover his own escape.

On top of this, another Reddit user has come forward with a list of differences between the film and the official novelization of the movie. You can check out the list right below via CBM:

-The story begins with June Moone investigating the caves. She’d being haunted by nightmares of a woman. She’s travelled halfway around the world to search for something that potentially may not exist. She knows the name ‘Enchantress’. She is accompanied by two people, Manuel and Luis, mountain guides she has worked with for several years. She can also speak Spanish. The mountain guides refuse to go into the cave with her. It seems like June has been plagued by these dreams for a long time.

-The story then goes to Arkham Asylum where it has been a peaceful night, until masked thugs descend from helicopters into the courtyard. They kill all the guards. The thugs are looking specifically for Harleen. “Doctor Quinzel. How nice of you to join us. You’re looking… good enough to eat. Figuratively speaking, of course. I’m strictly vegan. At least today”. The Joker then implies that the electroshock therapy is revenge for her doing it to him, and ‘scorching what few dead and faded memories I had into a sizzling knot…’. In the film Harley seems to not fear the Joker but in here she’s pleading for him to let her go. But then she starts to enjoy it, asking for more pain and pleasure.

-Then we go to Deadshot who is out in town. He gives coupons to homeless men and then watches them scramble to get them. We get the scene with him preparing to shoot the guy.

-Then we get the club scene which is largely unchanged.

-A scene with Deadshot and his daughter that was in the movie, but also him arguing with his ex-wife, and then Batman.

-Then the Joker and Harley in the car. We find out why the track is called ‘You can’t make my teeth hurt’ and the line ‘Hope you’ve got insurance’. The Joker doesn’t give a shit and laughs at the fact that he drives into Gotham river leaving Harley to die. Batman says ‘Joker took something important from me. It’s my turn’.

-Then Harley in Belle Reve and Deadshot, being taken by Griggs.

-The Ace Chemicals scene is extended. It’s implied the Joker makes her jump off as a joke, but then changes his mind similar to the film.

-He (Joker) manages to jump out of the helicopter. The helicopter crashes into a bank building. He laughs knowing that money is burning inside. ‘God, I love the smell of burning cash in the morning’. I haven’t read up to there yet but from a search it appears that he’s not in it after that which I find confusing. I’ll keep reading. The story has the same ending, though, with the Joker breaking Harley out.

screen-shot-2016-01-19-at-10.jpg

Description of the extended Ace Chemicals scene: The scene goes as follows:

Joker points down towards the vats.

Joker: “There. I was born down there.”

Harley stares down. She desperately wants the same.

Joker: “Would you die for me?”

Harley nods.

Harley: “Yes.”

Joker: “No… that’s too easy. Would you live for me?”

Joker smiles, scaring her.

Joker: “Will you embrace me, and only me?”

Harley nods vigorously.

Joker: “Will you bind your spirit to mine… in hate? Do you consign your soul to me? Do you laugh at the world in disgust?”

Harley: “…yes.”

Joker: “Do not say this oath thoughtlessly. Desire becomes surrender. Surrender becomes power. Do you want it? Do you really want it?”

Harley: “I do. I do.”

Joker: “Then goodbye, Doctor Quinzel.”

Joker gestures towards the edge of the vat. Without hesitation she jumps.

Joker thinks “She’s gone, forever. Problem solved.” He pauses and touches his chest. He feels something. Love? Of course not. He couldn’t see her floating face down and dying. Which was the original plan. He jumps down.

Even if we don’t end up seeing any of these scenes in the DVD/Blu-ray release of Suicide Squad, all of this information gives an inherently fascinating view into Ayer’s and Warner Bros. creative process. If even a quarter of these scenes were included, the movie would have been much different. Not better, necessarily, but much different – I, for one, wanted more Captain Boomerang and a deeper understanding of Flag and Enchantress’ relationship. And it would have been nice if Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) was more than a punchline/death machine. Ayer has said that the theatrical cut is also his director’s cut, but that doesn’t mean that there’s any harm in letting some of the scenes and sequences see the light of day.

Jared Leto: I shot enough ‘Suicide Squad’ footage for an entire Joker movie, wanted R rating

Jared Leto isn’t holding back anymore. He after he broke the news that a lot of Joker scenes had been cut for Suicide Squad, he did some other interviews where he sounded a bit annoyed. Now it’s beginning to sound like he’s a little heartbroken over the whole thing. And understandably so!

While promoting Suicide Squad in the UK, Leto appeared on BBC Radio 1 with host Edith Bowman. Leto said that certain scenes that he shot with Margot Robbie that ended up getting cut were some of his favorite work he’s ever done in a movie. He then went on to say that he shot enough footage for them to make an entire Joker movie out of!

“I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there’s probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie,” Leto explained. “If I were to die tomorrow maybe the studio would roll something out.”

That’s really disappointing to hear, considering The Joker got 10 minutes of screen time at the very most in Suicide Squad.

It sounds like Leto felt he was held back a bit by the PG-13 rating, because he was lobbying for it to be rated R, even while they were shooting.

“I always wished this film was rated R, and I had actually said that when we were starting. It felt like if a film was ever going to be rated R it should be the one about the villains,” he said.

You can check out the entire 14 minute interview below. Leto is very open and honest about the whole thing, as you can see from the quotes I covered in this article.

Suicide Squad Missed An Opportunity to Convey the Joker's tWi$Ted Antics Via Text
jtfrkvbtqfgyy1svnugk.jpg

Did The Joker set up these knives himself? Or did he ask a friend to do it for him?
**SPOILERS THROUGHOUT, K NERDS?**

Suicide Squad is a cinematic failure for so many unique reasons—confusing editing, bad acting, cheesy plot line, insane soundtrack, etc.—but the most entertainingly bad part of it was Jared Leto’s Joker, which is truly some of the of the Oscar-winning actor’s worst acting. Considering all the the stories of him being a shithead on set in the name of “method-acting”—sending his costars used condoms, anal beads, dildos, dead pigs, and bullet casings—you’d expect him to at least be scary and sexually deranged. Instead, Leto channeled the spirit of a Hot Topic employee who takes his image way too seriously.

A major plot point in the movie is hinged upon a cell phone that the Joker forces the head prison guard, played by Ike Barinholtz, to give to Harley Quinn. Throughout the film, the Joker texts Harley to keep her updated on his plan to rescue her from her imprisonment. A good 5-10 minutes of screen time is devoted just to the Joker figuring out how to get Harley the phone.

This raises the question: How would the Joker text?

Text messaging is difficult to convey on film—some directors opt to just have characters read the texts aloud, shows likeHouse of Cards just have graphics of message bubbles as opposed to showing the actual phone screen and sometimes texting is largely ignored as a medium of communication because it’s not especially screen-friendly. If the director chooses to show text messages, as Ayers did in Suicide Squad, it automatically places the film in a specific moment in time. (I mean, iOS 6 basically looks ancient these days and it’s only been two years since Apple did a major redesign of its iOS when the company introduced 7.)

I’m not sure why Ayers chose to make the phone so integral to the plot—it seems pretty arbitrary to the narrative of the movie—but since he devoted a considerable amount of screen time to this, it’s fair game to pick apart. Comedian Patrick Monahan points out on Twitter that if Ayers is going to make the Joker text, he might as well spice up his message. Considering Leto’s character is basically set up to be the most twisted, edgy freak ever, he should’ve considered infusing some of his wild personality into his text messages.

Not only did Ayers miss out on having the Joker sUbV3r† the English language via text, I would’ve also loved to see what emojis he’s into. (I bet he uses a lot. ‘Cause he’s hardcore like that.)

There could have been something nice about an object we all use being central to the plot of a movie like Suicide Squad, imagining the Joker doing mundane activities like going to the Verizon store to take out a plan, setting up his contact info in the phone, uploading that lil’ dumb avi. The phone, however, seems like a complete afterthought. I mean didn’t anyone working in the props department question why there’s both a “close” and “ignore” button underneath the Joker’s text message. Why does the interface look like a mashup on iOS 6 and Windows XP?

Suicide Squad had the potential to be a good-bad movie—imagine if it skewed toward a more Evil Dead style of camp—but it was so sloppily put together, it ended up drowning in a viscous puddle of mediocrity. The phone is just an illustration of a largely arbitrary plot point failing to even develop any of the characters in an interesting way.

And I still say Amanda Waller should have been played by the girl that was Precious. Viola did a damn good job but part of what makes Waller "The Wall" is her physical stature.
yeah, i agree with this.

Saw it. They should have just not pumped up the Joker so much. I actually enjoyed the movie, but teasing the Joker was just wrong.

You could tell from the trailer they were going to do that though lol. If you noticed the Joker was never in the same scenes as the rest of the Suicide Squad aside from Harley. So I at least knew that.

Had no idea they was gonna fight some chic who was bucking and shit the whole movie though lol.
