what do you mean clear 10,000 and what are the special military compensation?
Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) is a tax-free benefit paid by the VA to veterans and their families in addition to regular VA Disability Compensation. SMC is paid to veterans who have incurred severe disabilities due to their military service.

Veterans may be eligible for SMC if they have a disability such as:
  • Loss of use of one hand or leg
  • Blindness in both eyes that requires help with basic needs
  • The need for aid and attendance by another person
SMC ratings are for certain disabilities or combinations of disabilities that are more severe than accounted for by the regular VA rating schedule.

Some types of SMC include:
  • SMC-K (Special K)
  • SMC-S (Housebound Benefits)
  • SMC-R1 and SMC-R2 (Aid and Attendance)
  • SMC-T (Traumatic Brain Injury)

Please read down on the drop down menus.

Start with the Basic SMC rates table. Find the dependent status in the left column that best describes you. Then find your SMC letter designation in the top row. Your monthly basic rate is where your dependent status and SMC letter meet.
If you have more than one child or your spouse receives Aid and Attendance benefits, be sure to also check the Added amounts table, and add these to your amount from the Basic SMC rates table.

How do I properly use this
Go to te section that applies to your disabilty. For insance for me it wasknee pain. Read that category to see what percentage you quailfy for and follow that guideline. If it says 10% for knee with less than 30% mobility its a matter of if you have those symptoms. If you go to the VA and just say my knee hurts that won't cut it. It has to fall within CFR guidelines.

Also remember if you have a service connected disability and have surgery, look at the section for painful incisions after surgery. It took me 15 years to find out I was missing out on 10% for painful scars.

One last thing that's important to remember is that even if you have 100% rating depending on your ratings you may not get paid at 100%. I have over 120% rating but it only comes to 80%.

Did anybody here sign up for that 3M Earplug Lawsuit?

I wasn’t able to get my records from the VA in time for the expiration date but apparently I’ve done enough to get some compensation

I did. They said I'm getting 5,000
And I legitimately have tinitis too. But because I never seen a doctor about it and dont have a paperwork trail of said harm outside of taking an audiogram to get my tinitis scoring on my way out, they say I can’t apply for the bigger payouts. I’m cool with it.

Don’t rock the boat on tinnitus. Basically a gimme if you were in the GWOT. Asking for more than the standard 10% gonna have them looking at other shit on your claim.

I got legitimate tinnitus, too. But I didn't constantly go to the doctor about it. Damn

Please, one, or more of you in the know answer this question:

WHAT ARE DISABILITIES THAT ALMOST EVERY or EVERY VETERAN CAN or WILL QUALIFY FOR?

I know tinnitus is one of them,.but from wrists from screwing stuff in or flat feet or Arch drop from boots. (I'm just spit balling)

What are some disabilities that if you've been in 2-4 years you've definitely got without question, so much that they don't even question it when you claim it?

But won't that keep you from working?
Yes. Gotta be careful with that one.

The VA app is down otherwise I would provide a list of common things that result in claims from my personal stuff.

Off top though:
Knees (especially with a procedure conducted)
Back issue resulting in limited motion (x-ray/MRI proof)
Plantar fasciitis
Sebhorric dermatitis (severity)
Diabetes (found out about mine at my retirement physical)
Headaches (migraines)
Burn pit registry stuff (hopefully all army and marines did this; other services depending on location)
Excessive scarring
Shoulders (range of motion)
Unresolved hernia
Blood pressure (hypertension)
Combat related injury (GSW, TBI, shrapnel)
TBI (training injury)
Rapid hearing loss over time (surprisingly NOT me)
PTSD/anxiety (be smart about how you present this; avoid TDIU)
GERD/IBS
Gout
Tuberculosis, active or inactive (proof of INH taken)
History of Cancer (treatment)

Most of these I didn’t add clarifying info to are usually awarded without much fuss. The ones with additional info will require some proof but will more likely than not be awarded.

I didn’t list the CPAP stuff because it’s so common that it should be implied.

Please let the group know if you had a different result with some of these.

I stay addin shit, fuck them lol

During their review, the higher-level reviewer identified an error that must be corrected before deciding your case. If needed, VA may contact you to ask for more evidence or to schedule a new medical exam.

There are a ton of disabilities that are secondary to tinnitus

Migraine
Adjustment disorders

Just think what your body can go through without peaceful sleep

Hypertension
Fucked up breathing at night
You grind your teeth

Shit I got 30% alone just for vertigo, hypertension is another 30%, that’s 70% for 3 disabilities

I think the rating for tinnitus is bs, 10%, constant ringing is only 10% smh

That should be an easy 30%

Fuckin government can destroy our ears then give us $160 a month smh

Yeah same here. More like $2400 when the lawyers get their cut but still. That’s $2400 extra dollars I never would’ve accounted for coming into my coffers :D
Shit, I’m at $10K and the paper they sent me to sign says I’m getting like $2500 after all the fees. The lawyer fees alone were around $4500. How these cats come out with more $ from my case than me when my ears are fucked up… BS…

Mine hits me for 40% I don’t care tho, he stays getting shit done

He’s experienced with the system and knows how and what to say in exams

It’s work, so he gets paid, I don’t care about the cut, I wouldn’t be able to get the shit done without his help

We work on honor system, I trust he’ll keep workin on it, and when that retro hits, i Zelle him his cut

This is very informative. I’m quickly approaching 20 & I’ve only been to the doc for extreme cases while deployed or in garrison (part of the culture). Junior troopers have a better understanding of VA percentages than I do. Hopefully this thread lasts.

Same here. Mine said 40% so I just chop it up as if I'm going to get 50% back. That's $2500 more dollars I never accounted for :dunno:

I feel you but I mean the attorneys in the 3M class action lawsuit. They are hitting us veterans that applied over the head and straight taking our loot. Guess I wouldn’t get anything if it wasn’t for the class action so it is what it is.

1. If you leave the service and your health is sketchy make sure to sign up with your employer ERISA Long Term Disability. They will review your claim pretty quick to make a decision. ERISA policies are more relaxed on pre existing condition than getting a policy on your own. If your VA claims draws out than you can have a source of income. If you get a high income job after leaving the military, it could boost your benefits significantly.

They use the wages earned on your job and not your low military pay. If you are making $6,000 x 60% = $3,600. They offset I believe so if your VA award is $1700 a month, your LTD will cut you a check for $1900.

2. Apply for SSDI even if you win benefits with the VA. Something to do with work credits expiring after awhile. I think you can collect both.

I got this info off of some channel on Youtube, I am no longer promoting these clowns, just taking their content. This is the way they do me, so I am returning the favor.

3. Apply for Section 8 and get on the waiting list if your benefits are not going to be high. You can have both going at the same time.

What is the point of this?

I guess you don't see my daily rants about being held hostage in the U.S. while they come up with retarded schemes to injure or kill.

:lol::lol::lol:

I finally got a small something, just trying to get something else before I take off. I just need a break from the United States, it sucks and has become anti-capitalist. I can only handle so much criminality and corruption; please do not follow me.

Agreed. Mostly likely everything DOES hurt at various points so it’s not even a lie. You’re actively suppressing that shit trying to go hard for the system. It will come back on you.

Start going to the doc for your recurring shit and have at least 3 visits on file explaining the pains aren’t stopping.

If something new happens, GO! Do NOT delay.

If you are married, have your wife tell you all the weird shit she has seen about you( movements, mood, anxiety). Write it down and start discussing that with your doc. Take any mental health referral they give you and go in and talk. Do this in your last year right before you submit your retirement paperwork. Don’t be afraid of what anyone says. Tell them you are working through your potential separation and ensuring you have a solid mindset, but tell that doc everything else….

Get a disk copy of your medical and dental records to provide a VSO when you are retiring. Because you are retiring you can do BDD, which will allow you to file your claim right before starting terminal leave and receive compensation at retirement. Almost no long. I retired 1 Oct er and got my first VA payment 1 Dec after their audit. Been steady ever since.
