Tragic means something specific in craft of storytelling
Most pro writers base shit off Aristotle blueprint and therein are tragedies and comedies.
Tragedy is where flaws aren’t learned from or overcome - so Oedipus or Vincent Vega character in Pulp Fiction and Sofia
Comedies are the opposite - so any horror flick with a final girl is an Aristotelian comedy and Oz in this is also living a happily Aristotelian comedic hero’s fantasy lol he’s the final “bird” lmao
Most fiction is comedy where hero or lead overcomes obstacles AND can only survive by overcoming an otherwise tragic flaw

Oz having brief pangs of conscious to me is just that... echoes of a humanity long lost.
EVERYTHING is calculated and a means to HIS own end.
everything is based on his own greed lust pride and gluttony.
and HIS mercy that is given has NOTHING to do with heart
It has to do with opportunity and ensuring his own personal myth that he IS a good person in any way shape of form can survive however diaphanous
Sofia was MADE this way (no excuses) but we could argue Oz was BORN this way.
Having the ability or capacity for mercy when it suits your ends to me is something different as opposed to literally fighting demons.
Perhaps two sides of the same coin or semantics but a difference nonetheless to me.

now as critical as I am of the show?
THAT to me is what sets it apart and makes it stand on its on.
THAT was brilliant casting acting and storytelling.
Sofia was his true RIVAL and not many shows could have pulled that off believably

She IS MERCILESS when she needs to and wants to be.
And it was a wonderful contrast we witness
Vic first murder
Sofia's first murder
Oz's first murder (we ASSUME)
and now the AUDIENCE are the judges & witnesses
Our own biases, what we are SHOWN, what we SEE, what we THINK WE SEE, color all that.
Someone could see all 3 of those murders as merciless, justified, survival, calculated or all of the above.

I gotta say, a few times I was like, "damn, thats a great shot" during this series. I cant say enough positive shit about this show. And to think I thought Agatha was gonna be better. While also good, isnt even close to being as good as The Penguin
Yeah I’m torn on if this show is as great as I think it is or is it better than I expected it to be.I think something emulating and being inspired by something doesn't necessarily make it equal. (not that YOU are saying that)
