The Flash
2023
4/10
Watched this last night with my two sons on MAX.
No need to go in-depth on it.
My main objection was them doing this storyline before introducing Flash’s Rogue’s Gallery of Classic villains for the big screen.
The CGI of bringing in a number of past DC characters was not impressive. I knew they were gonna debut and was expecting live action versions of them along with interacting with The Flash. That didn’t happen and the CGI of them looked lousy and was on the level of a CW Arrowverse show.
The actres who played Supergirl was ok. Her fight scenes actually looked decent and played out better than what they did with Henry Cavill in his first Superman film.
And like clockwork, Michael Keaton stole the film. Hollywood needs to get this guy in some decent flicks. He ain’t getting younger and he is at the top of his game right now.
Not sure what James Gunn is gonna do with this film being he stated earlier this year the film will be the official starting off point for his plans with the DCEU.
Other than that, it was an entertaining movie. It fits in the category “You See It Once, No Interest In Seeing It Again”.
Aquaman is the next flick. Will wait for it on MAX (If it gets released) and watched it there.
I watched it with my kids too.
I actually went in positive and was gonna let all the Ezra stuff slide. (Interesting I noticed the cross dressing and little nods to his gender identity just saying)
First off...
I saw this movie already and it was better.
It was Crisis of Infinite Earths, on the CW.
The movie just ain't good especially taking into account just how LONG they had to develop this.
It is not the greatest superhero of all time by any measure period.
Gunn will NEVER live that down, Cruise either.
But let me be very clear...
Ezra acting against himself was near academy award level good. (And the effects attached to THAT were amazing)
BUT his acting was overall just ok.
Both things can be true.
Now the effects in the 3rd act all the speed force stuff. The director COULD have bullsh*t his way out of the bad effects as being DELIBERATELY "waxy" if that style had some type of consistency throughout. But it wasn't, so it just looked ummm
Unfinished.
And while a good idea overall story wise?
Should and could have been done better.
Michael Keaton - Should have been MORE of this movie period.
And quiet is kept? Supergirl was actually pretty good for the 5 seconds she is in the movie.
even more quiet was kept?
Alfred Wonder Woman Aquaman Affleck should have been used more and better. I don't want a Justice League movie but Flashpoint IS INHERENTLY A DC UNIVERSE story.
Sidebar... where the hell was Cyborg?
It was OK, but they somehow messed up a story that the TV show handled perfectly for 8 years and the animated movie did perfectly in about an hour.
I didn't FEEL anything.
They didn't establish young Barry's REASON for his obsession to fix everything. HIS mother was fine.
Yes the whole world was being destroyed. But playing him as a flake who suddenly had the conviction rivaling Superman and Batman just felt off.
There was a good story in there somewhere.
And let's get this out of the way.
NOT HAVING GRANT GUSTIN IN THIS MOVIE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN EVERYONE INVOLVED PRE & POST PRODUCTION FIRED.
that's all.
Sidebar... word to blue beetle - when was the Flash Latino?
This was a wasted opportunity.
I guess this was better than Shazam? About the same or worse than Black Adam?
This has absolutely nothing to do with super hero fatigue. this has to do with poor execution and for once? Not listening to fans completely f*cked this movie.
I also understand watching this movie why you would give the director the new Batman movie.
I wouldn't have. But I get it.
