Report: Tyron Woodley vs. Kamaru Usman set for UFC 235
Sorry, Colby Covington. Kamaru Usman will be the next man to face Tyron Woodley for the welterweight strap at UFC 235 in March.
UFC 235 may have just gained a second title fight. The card, set for March 2nd in Las Vegas, recently gained a light heavyweight title scrap between Jon Jones and Anthony Smith (pending NSAC approval). Now, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reports the event will also feature a welterweight title fight between Tyron Woodley and Karamu Usman.

Tyron Woodley vs. Kamaru Usman is a done deal for UFC 235 on 3/2, sources say,” Helwani wrote on Twitter. “If all goes according to plan the fight will serve as co-main for Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith. However, unlike Woodley-Usman, Jones-Smith isn’t signed yet. Jones has to get his license on 1/29 first.”

Helwani also explained why Woodley is fighting Kamaru Usman rather than Colby Covington, who was originally expected to fight for the 170 pound strap first.

”In the end, while Colby Covington was ready to go for 235, UFC chose to go with Usman because his stock rose mightily in their eyes after the RDA win + his subsequent willingness to fight anyone on short notice in January despite being injured,” Ariel tweeted. “Covington held out and it cost him.”
This turns UFC 235 into quite the card, should all these fights stay together. Take a peek at how the UFC’s big March 2nd card is looking:

Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith (for light heavyweight championship)
Tyron Woodley vs. Kamaru Usman (for welterweight championship)
Robbie Lawler vs. Ben Askren
Holly Holm vs. Aspen Ladd
Jeremy Stephens vs. Zabit Magomedsharipov
Diego Sanchez vs. Mickey Gall
Ovince Saint Preux vs. Misha Cirkunov
Tecia Torres vs. Weili Zhang

Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier 2 for interim lightweight title targeted for UFC 236 in Atlanta

With UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov watching from the sidelines until November, promotion officials will look to crown an interim champion in April.
Stepping up to the plate, Dustin Poirierwill face UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway in a rematch, this time at UFC 236 on April 13 in Atlanta.

MMAFighting confirmed the initial report from ESPN with sources.

Poirier (24-5, 1 NC) submitted Holloway in their initial featherweight scrap at UFC 143 in 2012. In his last bout, “The Diamond” finished former champion Eddie Alvarez late in the second round of their rematch at UFC on FOX 30 in July. This win not only marked his third straight stoppage win, but pushed his unbeaten streak to five. Poirier was expected to return against Nate Diaz at UFC 230 before pulling out with a hip injury.

To date, Poirier has finished 19 of his 24 wins, with 13 coming by way of (T)KO.

Holloway (20-3) was last seen defending his 145-pound title with a violent fourth-round TKO win over Brian Ortega at UFC 231 in December. This marked his first walk to the Octagon since finishing former champion Jose Aldo for the second time during their fight at UFC 218 in December 2017.

The Hawaiian was expected to jump up to the 155-pound division to challenge Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 last April in short notice. However, the day before the fight, Holloway was deemed unfit to compete by the New York State Athletic Commission due to feared dangerous weight cut.

To date, Holloway has finished 12 of his 20 wins, including 10 by way of (T)KO.

The entire card will go down inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta. An interim middleweight fight between Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum has been tied to the co-main event.

Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington get into casino scuffle after UFC 235

Kamaru Usman won the UFC welterweight championship Saturday night, and it appears that Colby Covington will be his first challenge inside the Octagon. The future title bout doesn’t have a date yet, but both welterweights almost went at it outside the Octagon.
TMZ had access to a video that shows a scuffle between Usman and Covington in Las Vegas casino. The video also shows Usman’s manager Ali Abdel-Aziz throwing a punch at the 170-pound contender.

I don’t want to jinx it, but JDS is going to sleep...
gotta agree, jds has the striking to jab and Lester Francis all night and beat him over five rounds with a possible late ko, however jds tends to get hit and hurt badly at least once a fight lately and against Francis that’s a death sentence. Francis by ko in rd 1-2

Anyone think Masvidal is going to beat Askren this weekend?
he's got a chance, masvidal is a hell of a fighter, good movement, fast hands, good power, scrappy and durable as hell. Unfortunately if Ben gets him down even once I fear that from what we’ve seen of Jorge’s grounds game that would pretty much be a wrap. I got askren by choke but as joe rogan said, “funny shit starts happening when two people punch each other in the face” lol

The real question is what in the fuck could santos do to make this fight even a little competitive? If he comes in wild Jon takes him down and drops bows and bombs in him until he wishes he was back being a paratrooper jumping out of a plane, if he’s reserved Jon’s night and 8 inch reach advantage, teep and body/leg kicks should make santos absolutely miserable, it looks grim. The fight I really have my eye on is holly vs Amanda, holly can surprise you when she’s on, she disguises her kicks well and no one can really take a full force shin to the face lol if she lets her hands go and uses her superior movement she has a real chance at the upset. Overall a great event(that makes boxing cards look like a joke lol)

UFC president Dana White plans to cut ties with Cris Cyborg: 'We're out of the Cyborg business'

It took just about one week's time to get an answer to the question of how UFC will proceed with former women's featherweight champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino going forward. In an exclusive interview released by the promotion on Friday, UFC president Dana White definitively proclaimed that Cyborg's days as a UFC competitor are over, and she'll be free to explore all of the options she now has at her disposal.
"I'm gonna release her from her contract, I will not match any offers, she is free and clear to go to Bellator or any of these other organizations and fight these easy fights that she wants. Done. Done deal," White said. "I will literally, today, have my lawyers draft a letter to her team that she is free and clear to go wherever she wants. We're out of the Cyborg business."

Zhang wins China's first UFC title in stunning style

Zhang Weili thrilled a
Chinese home crowd with an upset knockout of UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade that took just 41 seconds Saturday, making her China's first champion in the world's biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.

The experienced Andrade, who came into the fight tied for the most wins by a woman in UFC history with 11, charged the underdog Zhang from the start.

But the Brazilian ran into a barrage of punches and knee kicks from Zhang that sent her staggering to the canvas as the referee waved the fight over.

Nate Diaz says he's out of UFC 244 following a drug test issue
6:37 PM ET

  • Marc RaimondiESPN Staff Writer
Nate Diaz wrote Thursday on social media that he will no longer be competing at UFC 244.
Diaz, who was scheduled to headline the event Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden against Jorge Masvidal, wrote that he had an adverse drug-test finding and will not make the trip to New York until things get figured out. Diaz wrote that he was told he had "elevated levels" that may have come from a tainted supplement. He did not specify who told him that or what the prohibited substance might be.
UFC 244 was set to be one of the biggest pay-per-view events of the year for the promotion. In the post, Diaz adamantly denies taking any banned drugs.
"I only take Whole Foods or natural food supplements," Diaz wrote. "I don't even eat meat. So until UFC, USADA or whoever is F---ING with me fixes it I won't be competing."
Diaz went on to write he was told to hide the drug-test results or keep it quiet and he didn't want to do that.
"I don't give a f--- about some money over my dignity and my legacy," Diaz wrote. "I'm not playing along with this bulls---. I'm not staying quiet and figuring it out after the fight. That's cheating."
Requests for comment from USADA, the UFC's anti-doping partner, and the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) were not immediately returned. UFC president Dana White was not immediately available for comment.
Masvidal's team was unaware of the situation until Diaz's tweet, a source told ESPN. Masvidal tweeted that he'd like to fight Diaz regardless of what a drug test said.

UFC 244: Nate Diaz cleared by Usada to fight Jorge Masvidal for ‘BMF’ title after failing drugs test
  • Usada rules Diaz has not committed an anti-doping violation
  • Elevated levels of SARMS in positive test traced to contaminated organic, vegan, plant-based multivitamin
pixel.adsafeprotected.com

Nate Diaz has been cleared by Usada to fight Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244.

The Madison Square Garden main event for the “BMF” title was plunged into doubt on Thursday after Diaz was informed he had tested positive for elevated levels of SARMS, or selective androgen receptor modulators, which have similar properties to anabolic agents.

Diaz put the positive test down to tainted supplements but railed against Usada in an angry statement on Twitter, writing a representative of the UFC’s official anti-doping partner had suggested he “keep it quiet”.

He is set to fly into New York on Saturday, but has not confirmed whether he will still fight.
