cosign on all that but I did like Donna. Her leaving was really sad...it was her daddy that made it sad though. Cause he basically was right there with her.

And Missy WILL be missed with the new season. Oh she was awesome.

And you are right about Gatiss.

About sidebar 1 - right?!

About sidebar 2 - right?!

LOL

Donna was frustrating

cause I actually like that actress in OTHER stuff...

She is a wonderful comedic actress...

its just I don't know

on Doctor Who, at times she was just TOO MUCH

Sidebar: her Dad was the MAN.

The Thirteenth Doctor Relives Previous Lives in Doctor Who Comic

Titan Comics - publisher of the Doctor Who comics line since 2014 - have revealed the first comic book to feature The Doctor's thirteenth incarnation. First airing in 1963, Doctor Who is the longest-running sci-fi series in television history, having gone on hiatus but never having been cancelled in its 55 year run. The series focuses upon the adventures of The Doctor - a time-traveling alien, both a genius and a pacifist, who acts as a defender of the weak and the oppressed.

The reason for the show's longevity lies in a conceit that Time Lords like The Doctor have the ability to regenerate their bodies in moments of great stress or trauma, becoming entirely new people. Originally introduced to continue the popular show after The First Doctor, William Hartnell, had to leave the role for reasons of ill-health, the idea of regeneration has allowed the show to go on, even as the actors playing The Doctor retired from the role.

Titan Comics announced the new comic The Many Lives of Doctor Who in a press release today, a zero-issue special that will lead directly into a monthly Thirteenth Doctor series, whose release will coincide with the start of the latest season of the legendary show. The story will be told from the perspective of the newly reborn Thirteenth Doctor, as her previous lives flash before her eyes as she is born.

It's said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die, and the Doctor’s had many of them! As the Doctor regenerates from his twelfth incarnation to her thirteenth (as played by Jodie Whittaker), she relives unseen adventures from all her past selves from Classic through to New Who. Hitting stores in September 2018, The Thirteenth Doctor #0 features a stellar cast of Doctor Who comic creators including writer Richard Dinnick and artists Mariano Laclaustra, Giorgia Sposito, Arianna Florean, Iolanda Zanfardino, Brian Williamson, Claudia Ianniciello and Rachael Stott, the artist of Titan’s new Thirteenth Doctor series!

This special 64-page edition - the first Thirteenth Doctor comic - comes with two covers to collect: an art cover by Claudia Ianniciello and a photo variant by designer Will Brooks - only available in comic shops. The Thirteenth Doctor #0 is part of Titan Comics' larger plans for the Thirteenth Doctor, which includes the launch of issue #1 in October and Doctor Who Comics Day on November 24.

Doctor-Who-The-Many-Lives-of-Doctor-Who-First-Doctor-Mariano-Laclaustra-Carlos-Cabrera-.jpg

The preview artwork shows an impressive variety of scenes and art styles. Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor - the one with the long scarf and big smile - is rendered in an appropriately animated style by Arianna Florean - an artist on the Tenth Doctor monthly comic book. A more realistic style is utilized by Mariano Laclaustra (artist on Titan's Twelfth Doctorseries), who rendered the above image of William Hartnell's dour First Doctor and his companions watching the sun stretch across an apparently alien landscape.

While it is still uncertain when Whovians everywhere will finally get to see Series 11 and the first female Doctor in action, it seems that Titan Comics is ready and able to whet their appetites for new Doctor Who adventures until then. The preview artwork for The Many Lives of Doctor Who is fantastic and while the story concept is hardly original (with previous episodes of the show having depicted The Doctor flashing back through his earlier adventures while in the throes of regeneration sickness) it seems likely that veteran Doctor Who writer Richard Dinnick will find a way to put a unique spin on the story.

Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who Makes Her First Reference To Christopher Eccleston
ADVERTISING

The Doctor Who season 11 finale was the first episode of Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who era to make mention of a story featuring the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston. This bears mentioning as the season had made multiple references to stories starring the other "New Who" Doctors, seemingly leaving Nine out in the cold. This seemed doubly odd as Eccleston's Ninth Doctor and Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor have a lot in common as characters.

When Doctor Who was revamped in 2005, Eccleston faced a daunting ask in reimagining the Doctor for a new generation. While the revival was dependent upon the work of hundreds of television professionals, Eccleston's performance would be the glue that held the whole production together and set the standard by which everything else would be judged. Thankfully, Eccleston met the challenge and his darker yet occasionally whimsical take on the Doctor secured the new seasons' place in the cultural zeitgeist as a science-fiction phenomena and a return to form for the classic family program. Whittaker has faced a similar challenge as the first female Doctor in the show's long history, and while her take on the Doctor is more light-hearted than Eccleston's world-weary warrior, she sports a similar edge when her good humor is broken.

Related: Doctor Who: Ranking Each New Doctor's First Season

The Doctor Who season 11 finale - "The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos" - found the Doctor and her companions working to thwart the villainous schemes of galactic tyrant Tzim-Sha (aka Tim Shaw) after answering nine distress calls emanating from the titular planet. In order to disrupt the signal that Tzim-Sha would use to destroy the Earth, the Doctor hit upon a scheme that would take advantage of the reality-rewriting powers of a race called The Ux and the telepathic circuits that powered the TARDIS. When the Doctor's companion, Yazmin, asked if this would work, the Doctor confessed that she wasn't sure, but noted that she once pulled a similar stunt with the telepathic circuits and "turned a Slitheen back into an egg." This was a reference to the Ninth Doctor story "Boomtown," where Eccleston's Doctor did indeed save the day by causing the villain to revert to an embryonic state, ensuring that he could see her properly raised to become a productive, non-murderous member of her society.

ADVERTISING

Granting that the Ninth Doctor-era doesn't offer as many opportunities for referencing due to its brevity, as Eccleston only played the Doctor for one season, it still seems odd that more attention has not been paid to it in the new season. Doctor Who season 11 has seen multiple references to the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors' adventures. Indeed, "The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos" sees the Doctor describing the events of the Tenth Doctor story, Journey's End, in which the Doctor used the TARDIS as a tow-truck to pull the Earth back to its proper place after being taken halfway across the universe by Doctor Who's Daleks.

ADVERTISING
Presumably this lack of attention to the Eccleston-era is the result of there being so little material to draw upon and not an intentional slight. Regardless of the reasons, it is nice to see the Ninth Doctor-era finally being referenced in this fashion. Hopefully, Doctor Who season 12 will see more nods to the Doctor who started the Who resurgence.

The forthcoming WarnerMedia streaming platform has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to “Doctor Who,” with all 11 seasons of the historic BBC series coming to the service upon launch in spring 2020. The news comes as part of a deal with BBC studios which means the streamer will be the home of future “Doctor Who” seasons after they air on BBC America.

Under the deal, HBO Max has also licensed several hundred episodes of multiple other hit BBC shows, namely “The Office,” “Top Gear,” “Luther,” and “The Honorable Woman.” The BBC properties join the ever-growing content library at the streamer which also includes “Friends,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Pretty Little Liars,” and a host of HBO properties like “The Sopranos,” “Sex and the City,” “Veep,” and “Game of Thrones.”

“‘Doctor Who’ is one of television’s all-time, most beloved series, on both sides of the pond, and we are happy to be the exclusive streaming stewards for this BBC gem” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max and president of TNT, TBS, and truTV. “Another series to further define the high-quality content experience consumers can expect from HBO Max.”

Jodie Whitaker took over as the thirteenth Doctor in 2018 and is set to reprise the role for a second season coming to the BBC and BBC America in 2020.

“As any ‘Doctor Who’ fan knows, the iconic TARDIS is ‘bigger on the inside’ – and it’s a good thing because the TARDIS is about to welcome a whole new slew of fans coming to the show through this deal with HBO Max,” said Nigel Gaines, interim president of BBC Studios – Americas. “HBO Max’s ambitious content line-up is the perfect complement to the ‘Doctor Who’ global franchise, in addition to some of our most award-winning and game-changing UK dramas and comedies.”

In addition, the deal also includes new titles “Pure”, “Trigonometry”, “Stath Lets Flats”, “Home” and “Ghosts” which will all stream exclusively on the platform upon its launch.

In terms of prospective original programming, the HBO Max slate is thus far headlined by a “Gossip Girl” sequel series set eight years after the original, and “Dune: The Sisterhood” which is based in the world created by Frank Herbert’s “Dune” and Denis Villeneuve on board to direct.

On the film side, HBO Max has secured production deals with prolific producer Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon. Berlanti will produce an initial four movies focused in the young adult space, while Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine will produce at least two films.

Fantastic! Christopher Eccleston Is Returning to Doctor Who
By Devon Ivie@devonsaysrelax
Photo: Doctor Who/YouTube
To repeat: Oh, fantastic! The space-time continuum is blessing us with Christopher Eccleston’s return to Doctor Who, more than 15 years after, as the Ninth Doctor, he quietly hung up his leather jacket and departed the franchise following behind-the-scenes turmoil. Den of Geek reports that Eccleston has signed on to voice a series of new Doctor Who audio adventures, which will be jointly released by BBC Studios and Big Finish Productions in May 2021. “It will be exciting to revisit the Ninth Doctor’s world,” he said in a statement, “bringing back to life a character I love playing.” Eccleston has not been involved in any Doctor Who projects ever since he left after leading one season in 2005, which served as the franchise’s comeback for the “modern” era. Conversely, other Doctors, such as David Tennant and Matt Smith, have jumped at the chance to reprise their characters in additional specials or audio series.

Following years of silence and several compelling roles across the pond, Eccleston revealed in 2018 that the British film and television industry blacklisted him after he left Doctor Who, which he says was due to the strained relationship with his “three immediate superiors” — the showrunner and executive producers, who were Russell T. Davies, Julie Gardner, and Phil Collinson, respectively. “It broke down irreparably during the first block of filming and it never recovered,” Eccleston explained. “They lost trust in me, and I lost faith and trust and belief in them.”

In 2019, Eccleston also said during a rare Comic-Con appearance that the lingering effects of the blacklist made him reject an offer to appear in the show’s 50th anniversary special, as he was still angry due to various “political” factors. “I personally didn’t feel like the narrative was strong enough, particularly for the Ninth Doctor because I’d taken quite a lot of abuse in my own country when I left,” he explained about the offer. “As the show was being celebrated I was being abused in the press and that was hard to take and very confusing. So I looked at it and I thought is this really the way I want to come back and I decided it wasn’t.” What, the show couldn’t be bothered to sprinkle in a few extra Bad Wolf motifs for him?

Doctor Who gives sneak peek at holiday special during New York Comic-Con panel

One image shows star Jodie Whittaker locked in an alien prison.
By Clark Collis
October 08, 2020 at 02:08 PM EDT

Thursday's Doctor Who panel at New York Comic-Con offered a glimpse of the time travel show's future with two first look images from the upcoming holiday special, titled "Revolution of the Daleks." One photo shows Jodie Whittaker's Doctor while the other features the Time Lord's three companions, Graham (Bradley Walsh), Yaz (Mandip Gill), and Ryan (Tosin Cole).
In the holiday special, the Doctor is locked away in a high-security alien prison. Isolated, alone, with no hope of escape. Far away, on Earth, her best friends, Yaz, Ryan and Graham have to pick up their lives without her. But it’s not easy. Old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek.

"As characters, we're back in Sheffield, not knowing where she's gone and trying to get on with our own lives," said Gill on the panel. "Yaz is struggling a little bit. We then do come across a plot that involves a Dalek and we go, Okay, she's taught us lots of things, but how are we going to fight a Dalek without a Doctor?"
"Revolution of the Daleks" premieres this season on BBC America. BBC America’s holiday programming schedule will once again include the annual tradition of a week-long Doctor Who marathon running from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day.
See one of the images from "Revolution of the Daleks" above, and another below.

Doctor Who villains the Daleks get new look for holiday special

Should the redesign be embraced or exterminated? Judge for yourself!
By Clark Collis

Fans of Doctor Who will see a new look for those mechanical monstrosities the Daleks in the upcoming holiday special.
The redesign is featured on the front of the new Radio Times magazine and has prompted disagreement among Whovians since the image leaked on Thursday. "I...absolutely adore this new design," one fan wrote on Twitter. "It just looks so sleek. Can't wait to see it in action in all its glory!" Another Whovian was less complimentary, writing, "Front, side, back, it doesn’t matter what angle I look at it from — I f---ing hate it and would literally take any other Dalek design over it."

On Monday, a new teaser revealed that John Barrowman's adventurer Captain Jack Harkness is back for the episode, which stars Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor.
“Putting on Jack’s coat and setting foot back on the set of Doctor Who was just like going back home," Barrowman said in a statement. "It’s always thrilling to play Captain Jack. He’s a character very close to my heart who changed my life, and to know the fans love him as much as I do makes his return even sweeter. I hope everyone enjoys Jack’s heroic adventure with Thirteen.”
