Why are Latinos and others groups trying to say they created Hip-Hop when it was really Black people?

Watching all of these "FBA" Twitter threads on different subjects, it's beginning to look like a meeting for "Insecure Anonymous". Everything they rant about turns into is a whine session about a group not like FBA people. Someone on Twitter called them "Branch Nasheedians".
I literally did not mention FBA in my original post you moron.

Fat Joe started this conversation .

Just out of curiosity, does anyone remember the first hip-hop/rap record they heard on the radio, and what they were doing around that time (elementary school, junior high, high school, college, working)?

For me, it was Pigmeat Markham's "Here Comes the Judge" when I was a kid. As for what we call hip hop, it was the rapping in Fatback's "King Tim III" in '79.

Don't remember the exact song. It was elementary school for me 86 or 87 and we were all breakdancing. All they played at parties was break dancing and dancehall reggae.

Latinos were definitely there for the beginning of Hip Hop culture. They didn't create it but they lived on the blocks and contributed to the beginnings of hip hop.

Rap music however was inspired by Reggae and Dancehall.

Jamaicans were the first to do rap music and there by created it.

Thanks, I was in Norman Thomas High School, September 1979 when I heard Fatback's "King Tim III." One of the interesting things about my high school is that we had 4 lunch periods (4,5,6,7), and we
had a sound system that consisted of 2 turntables, microphones, amps, etc. They would play music sometimes during the 6 and 7th period, and at times we might be treated to a minI rap concert.
You see, I went to school with Kool Moe Dee, Special K, and DJ Easy Lee so at times they would rap (as well as LA Sunshine), and whoever else that wanted to rap.

Ironically, @An RnB Thug posted a picture from my school.

This is Norman Thomas High School, and the photographs are from a party that was held in the gym. Although, I am not exactly sure of the year, I can say that they could have been between 1977 - 1980. Oh, the young man to the far left is Kool Moe Dee.

Ain't seen no one post not one thing to prove me wrong.

There's 2 arguments going on here
I'm saying Black people invented it
Yall saying Latino people contributed
You just MADE UP that Hispanics/Latins said they created rap. This whole thread is a crock of shit.
Fat Joe said they contributed.

Weeeeeeeell, they didn't create Hip-hop. As already mentioned, Hip-hop is a culture and yes, they were in the mix practically from the jump. SOME of them, those who were cool with brothers and didn't have that hate-black agenda tucked away like so many do.
If you walked across the bridge or took the train to the Fever you passed through nothing but Puerto Rican neighborhoods. Plenty of PR mamis were all over the place. This is one reason you had to roll deep and stay strapped cause if you pressed the wrong chick them fuckers came in waves.

And yes, Herc brought the "toasting" from Jamaica to the PJs, or at least he popularized and americanised it, but he wasn't the first or only one to mix records. I remember that happening long before Rap.
Herc did not bring toasting from Jamaica. Herc wasn't even the person on the mic. Coke LA Rock was and he aint Jamaican.
Toasting ain't nothing but Jive talking which is were toasting came from.
Herc wasn't even mixing. He was throwing records on.

My man, you don't know what you talking about.

I remember the block parties & park jams. Rap music was inspired by disco/R & B because of the beat breaks. It gave cats that "funded/hosted" the event the chance to say a little something to the people while the DJ set up the next song/blend. That then turned into DJs doing their own saying something (because of watching DJ Hollywood in Harlem doing it & rocking the crowd). Then the DJ got some of his homies to do it for him so he could go back to blending the music. That's how MCing began.

As for Jamaica being the first to do rap...LMAO!!! Ask those older Jamaicans what they thought about hip-hop back then. Truth be told, them older Jamaicans barely tolerated reggae & that's probably because of Bob Marley. If you didn't go up to the 220s, you didn't hear reggae music (there was no dancehall then). Period.

BTW, I'm a native New Yorker, born & bred in Harlem, NYC. Family all over NYC.

Know what you are talking about before you comment, homie. It's a lot of cats that were there in the beginning of it all. And that's not just hip-hop I'm referencing either.

Hopefully this is proof enough for the people in this thread because they said only NY peeps can speak on the matter and I don't have a say lol

Thank you! I would be willing to listen to people if they could post videos or written documentation (magazine, newspaper articles) that supported their position dating back to 1971. Growing up in that era in New York City, I will say that most of the time blacks and hispanics got along; however,
don't think it was a "Kumbaya" love fest because there were issues. Oh, did I forget to mention the one time in my life me and Orrin got jumped while we were playing catch with my older brother's football?

Also if Jamaicans started rap, shouldn't there be a like a I don't know, a presence before or after Cool Herc lol?
I mean I know they didn't have video cameras or recording material there in the 60s or 70s (according to BGOL) to prove there point, but I need proof son lol.

Thank you! Just by mentioning DJ Hollywood, I know you go back. You have me thinking back to t he days of WBLS (Inner City Broadcasting owned by Percy Sutton, who represented Malcolm X also) when they had Frankie Crocker, Vaughn Harper, LaMarr Renne, Vy Higginsen, etc.

I should add that obviously, Latinos did not create hip-hop in any way, shape or form. When I say that, I mean all four elements, just to be clear.

A lot of them were biased....I won't say racist because the Puerto Ricans were cool for the most part, long as you didn't try to get at they sister (inside joke for any native NYCer). But they had that bias from their parents in certain things. Now, they parents, straight racist.

BTW, I'm speaking mostly on Puerto Ricans. There were Dominicans around but they really was on that shit. I don't even recall a Dominican even being involved in hip-hop until AZ, seriously. I'm sure there was one or two, but for the most part, nah. But Puerto Ricans was right in the hood with us, moreso than anybody else. Those other Latino cultures either kept to themselves or lied about where they were from.

Anyway, like I said, most were cool & did contribute/add on once hip-hop got going. And for that, they got shitted on....a lot. This made some of them fuck with you when nobody (Latino) wasn't looking but diss you when they peoples was around. Which caused hella beefs.
