At the time of their meeting, Pinkett Smith was reportedly 43 years old while August Alsina was just 22. Nearly two years after their first meeting, the duo attended the BET Awards together on June 25, 2017.

First...whats WTF is JUST 22?? This is a grown ass man...

Am I missing something here????

A good route for Will might be one where he gets hands into humanitarian/social justice work. Do some PSA’s too for topics like anti-voter suppression. Help create housing for homeless. Begin to shift energy away from that slap and all the residue that came with it. Especially begin to develop a new relationship with Black-owned media and the Black independent film community.

If he did want to publicly face up to and resolve the current situation, an interview on Black owned media would not hurt. If he was to publicly apologize to Chris Rock directly as you suggested, let it come through those channels. It MIGHT help repair Will’s public image. It’d be up to Chris if he wanted to participate. I really think the window has closed for a public apology involving actually him speaking to Chris (virtually or face to face)) having maximum impact. That should have been done shortly after the incident.
I meant an apology to Chris that involves more than just words. He also ruined everybody else's night at the Oscars but I guess the ban is the punishment for it. Him doing all the other community work and trying to repair his image would be fake. The slap itself could be interpreted as a temporary loss of common sense. It's forgivable. But his actions after the slap speaks volumes of who he really is. It's better to deal with the problem directly. The problem is the assault on Rock. Will could give him money or something else but so far Will Smith hasn't done anything. He even lied on stage and said he was protecting his family. Will decided and is still choosing to ruin his image all by himself. Doing anything other than making it up to Chris Rock will not fix it. He is the asshole who assaulted an Oscar host on stage for doing his job. And then he doubled down on the slap trying to justify it. I wouldn't be surprised if Chris sued him. He's probably waiting and expecting Will to do something too.

So we should criticize a mentally ill man who sought help from a woman in the position to help him (and she decided to suck his dick). What should be apologize for? Are you expecting normality from a man who openly admits he has issues?

Yes we should, August was/is grown and knows better. If August was mentally ill, he should have sought the help of a doctor, not Jada Pinkett. August is damn near blind, has a liver issue and other health problems, is he going to Jada for help with that? Probably not because knows better.

And the talking and singing about it make him look like a clout chaser and butt hurt bitch.

Everybody in this situation looks like trash. Will, Jada and August.

I'm not expecting an admittedly mentally ill emotionally challenged man to hold shit bruh. I guess we differ on this. If she doesn't want him to talk don't fuck your son's crazy friend.

Yes, I understand movies are not real. Yeah- I get that. They are also stories that resonate so deeply within us that they can make us laugh, cry- they can make us angry and afraid. How many people still won't swim in the ocean because of the movie Jaws? How many people turn on a flashlight in the dark and make the "Vroooohhmmm" lightsaber sound? How may people pretended to be Luke Skywalker or Maverick or Lando when they got behind the wheel of their first car?
For us to enjoy a movie, it has to "speak" to a part of us, and these "made up stories" and the messages they deliver can stay with us (for good or ill) for years, even throughout our lifetimes.

I say that to make this point:

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I can't wrap my head around an industry that glorifies violence, that promotes ass-kicking dudes who don't take no shit from anyone, heroes and vigilanties who protect the weak and leave a trail of bloody, broken bodies in their wake and do it with smarmy, snarky one -liners spoken as they pump people full of lead...

how that industry, where the most profitable genre is Action and the number 3 is Horror....is supposed to be mad and gonna "cancel" a guy who slapped another man. Not put a glock to someone's temple and recited the "path of the righteous man" shit before blowing his brains out..
he slapped a dude.

They wouldn't even put that in a movie these days, because it would be too tame.

Like- "Uh, we Have to announce that we are cancelling Will Smiths contract for MurderDeathKill part 4: Let the bodies hit the floor, because he slapped a guy in real life".

I just don't get it.

One is reality..... One ain't.
In the movies, you can take three .45 caliber rounds to the chest and still chase down and beat up the nigha that shot you.
In reality ... Probably ain't gonna happen.
I.e. in the movies, you can walk up on stage and slap the shit out of the host of the Oscars and not expect any repercussions... In reality, nope, ain't gonna happen.
Your going to have to excuse Hollywood for assuming that people with a normal level of cognitive function will be able to discern between the two.... They be some presumptuous ass jew bastards for real my nigha..

  • Chris Rock said he won't speak on the infamous Oscars slap "until I get paid."
  • "I'm not talking about that until I get paid. Life is good," he said, per the Palm Springs Desert Sun.
  • It comes after Rock was slapped by Will Smith at the 94th Oscars last month.

Comedian Chris Rock said he would not talk about the controversial Oscars slap until he gets paid, according to the Palm Springs Desert Sun.
"I'm OK, I have a whole show, and I'm not talking about that until I get paid. Life is good. I got my hearing back," Rock said at his show in Indio, California, on Friday, per the outlet.
While on stage to present an award during the 94th Oscars last month, Chris Rock made a joke aimed at Jada Pinkett Smith's bald head.
"Jada, I love you, 'GI Jane 2,' can't wait to see it," Rock said before Will Smith walked on stage and slapped Rock during the live broadcast before returning to his seat.

Smith, who later won the award for best actor, apologized to the Academy during his acceptance speech and later to Rock in a March 28 statement on Instagram.
"Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear, and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris," Smith said. Pinkett Smith has been candid about her journey with alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss.
On Friday, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences announced that the "King Richard" actor would be barred from all Academy events, including the Oscars, for 10 years for his actions — which he said he accepts, according to a statement provided to CNN.
Following the Oscars dispute, tickets sales for Rock's 2022 "Ego Death World Tour" went through the roof. Unlike his brother, Rock has yet to fully address the situation but during his stand-up show in Boston, Rock made his first public remarks at The Wilbur.

"I'm still processing what happened," Rock reportedly said. "So at some point I'll talk about that shit. It'll be serious. It'll be funny, but right now I'm going to tell some jokes."

No. I got what you meant. I'd been saying myself that typed words are not the same as hearing and seeing him say them. He slapped Chris directly, not virtually or verbally (well the verbal slap came after the actual). I think he should apologize just as directly. What I was saying in my previous post was that direct apology should have been given BEFORE he quit the Academy and before the Academy penalized him. This, considering that he apologized to everyone else at the Oscars during his acceptance speech, except Chris. Doing it now almost doesn't seem as sincere. Now it would come off more like he's sorry for all the bad press, social media beatdown and being penalized by the Academy.

I understand what you're saying about Oprah. I'd thought about that too in terms of having Will and Chris meet. I just don't like that cow and hate giving her opportunities for ratings. Besides that, who's to say either Chris or Will would be down to participate. It still would not be bad optics for the mainstream audience, sure.

I'd rather see him connect with independent Black media and apologize to Chris from there if he's gonna do it. Establish a relationship with them. Black folks got things started for him. Be nice to see him come home.

He needs to repair his image. All this shit that's happened comes off as rich celebrity entitlement on his part. His thinking he can walk onstage and slap people and then walk back up to receive an Oscar and double down on rationalizing that bullshit in his acceptance speech while in the same speech hypocritically "apologizing" for what he spent the last few minutes justifying, his acting like his woman is somehow so much more special than any other celebrity and can't be joked about and lastly (if true) his meeting privately with a couple members of the Academy to try to clear shit up, instead of waiting for the scheduled meeting of all 18 members to decide his case. Lastly, it was a bad look for him to apologize with some words typed on social media. I would add that "Oscars So White" bullshit in 2016 that Jada concocted just because her husband wasn't nominated was self-serving and entitled as hell.

I suggested that he actually do some hands on ongoing humanitarian/social justice work to shed that entitled image that he's cultivated. It's not about being fake. Doing work like that grows you. It connects you more deeply with humanity and makes you see how you can make a difference...and yes, it's excellent optics.

it was for responses like this that I wrote that whole ass preamble.

I agree with this. I also don't like Oprah, but if they go on her show it would be seen all over the world. So first he should do something for Chris Rock, whether privately or publicly, and then he can work on fixing his image by doing humanitarian work. I don't see him doing it though. He has too much ego. It's probably the main reason why he hasn't divorced Jada after all these years of misery with her.
