I've been playing close to 30 years and I have to say those two books are some of the greatest applied theory... And in terms of musical ideas you mess with those books is guaranteed you'll be writing your stuff out whether it be with notes or tab

What you got in your arsenal?

I play a Tele Special Ed. Custom Deluxe and a Reflex..Musician as my two main guitars..

I got a buncha other cheaper ones I mess with..

I'm tryna get put in Walsh's will for his Strat..

The books will help, cuz I'm YouTube taught...but I'm just getting to the point where I understand some of the more technical aspects.

Alvarez and an epic phone my daddy got me a long time ago I'll probably be buried with the epic phone... I remember I had to take it into the shop and get some slight work done on it they wanted to buy it I couldn't let it go

I have an Epi SG I gotta fix. The rhythm setting on it has a short, I think.

I'ma try to spray some WD40 on it and see if that'll do the trick.

I know I'm kind of late on this post and I hope everything is going good with you and the guitar the guitar is like an addiction to me but I would suggest this one guy by the name of Martin Taylor his books.... One book on Guitar and jazz guitar bass and another book on guitar chord Melody... These two books that I have of his teach theory and how to play at the same time is what I call applicable learning I'll post the books for you when I get

Bruh, I love to hear Jimi talk...he had that groovy, chill vibe always...

Dude was at the forefront of a whole new genre of music, and he was humble af..

The thing I learned about him, that is true of so many other great in different fields...whether sports or music, is that he played ALL DAMN DAY.

Dude would fall asleep playing with the guitar in his bed, noodle on it all day.

It's the same with EVH...played always.

When you look at the greats in bball...Kobe, Jordan...they were gym rats...always working on their game.

Talent is one thing, but work ethic takes you to another level.

Sidenote...he's playing an SG...almost never saw Jimi play anything but a Strat..usually a black one, or the white one (his girl supposedly gave him, that she got from Keith Richards)...I think he set it on fire at Monterey Pop.

Jimi use to fall asleep wit the guitar in his hands in bed. That's how dedicated he was to perfecting his craft.

Bruh, I try to practice a minimum of an hour everyday... usually get in 1/2 to 2 hours.

Now, it's like my fingers are developing another layer of callouses...thought I was done with that 2 years ago...

Funny thing is when you touch something... especially a soft ass...it feels like you have gloves on. The sensation of touch is dulled by all those callouses.

Bruh, this cut is by a dude who was often compared to Jimi, back in the early 70s..

It's a bluesy rock masterpiece!

I wanted to learn it last year...got the lesson on YT, listened to it once, and knew it was wayyy over my head.

I can jam that bitch now.

I couldn’t find the whole clip, but Pete Rock posted it on ig. Jimi said in the clip that he doesn’t read music because he’s always trying to create new notes

Yeah, I heard the same about him not reading music...amazing how many pro musicians can't.

But them mofos are on some next level shit with music.

I heard McCartney say Hendrix saw the Beatles play one night, and the next night he saw Jimi playing Sgt Pepper in one of his concerts...

Some cats can hear something once and figure it out that quick...can distinguish between different types of notes and chords...shits fascinating to me.

ITS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY PLAYIN A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT IS SO MUCH FUN. THERE'S NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO LEARN. YOU CAN DEVELOPE YOUR OWN STYLE AND CREATE YOUR OWN SOUND. YOU NEVER HAVE TO DO THINGS ONE WAY.

Black, can you play Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi?

W0yBce.jpg

Mannn, I never tried, but I'ma give it a shot soon...big Joni fan, although in high school, I worked in a store and these white hippie chicks used to play her so much I couldn't stand it.

Prince actually got me back into her...

TBH, I never knew what the name of that song was...

Have you played it?

Btw, Marty's a very good teacher

You don't have Fender Tune app?

I use it damn near whenever I play...and I'm sure I'm not using it to it's full potential.

I have a digital tuner I never use. I keep the Fender app on my phone and use it to tune in standard, Drop D, half step down and several others.

Plus, if you select a chord, it'll show you different shapes all over the neck.

So, if Im learning a tune and they say they're playing a A maj...it has 6 different ones.

Plus it has a metronome, different beats, and if you're looking for a particular scale, it has that also.

And it's FREE

Bruhhh, you're gonna love it!

It's easy af to use. You won't have a problem tuning up anymore.

It's set to standard, but if you go to the upper left corner, it'll give you all the other options.

I keep one guitar in Drop D...I think Soundgarden plays alotta their stuff in that, and I keep another tuned Half step down..

This just payback for putting me up on Guitar Tab app.

Oh, and it has a tuner for your bass also.

@black again I'm noticing a lot of songs have that Bm7 chord. Especially a lotta R&B songs

ofIHaL.jpg
If you playing blues it's usually a dominant 7th that takes you back home.. but a lot of those old rhythm and blues / soul songs from the 70s had a lot of minor sevens.... And for sure a lot of the old doo-wop songs that would climb the scale like Smokey Robinson's ooh baby baby sitting in the park waiting for you... All had those same type cord patterns major minor minor

I hadn't noticed, but that B stands for bitch, cuz they're some of the harder ones for me to play.
     Some of them do require a serious stretch using all four fingers I agree. But that Bm7 is easy. It's in the beginning of Harvest For the World and Marvin Gaye's After the Dance.
