That's because trials are expensive, and the gov't hates trials, because there's too much room for error. Couple that with the fact that this trial be a circus, and DAs hate those, because they tend to distract the jury and others involved.

But just imagine THIS trial?

It would be a social media, television, blog orgy.

They would make millions.

And it would be a clusterf*ck.

And would probably work out well for Jussie.

EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell CBS 2 that 60 or more employees may have lost their jobs over the Smollett matter

"Simply put, it was just morbid curiosity," she said. "I went into the charting system and started to search his name."
"I clicked just once," Susan said. :smh:

CHICAGO (CBS) — Some Northwestern Memorial Hospital employees who say they were fired for accessing “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett’s files are speaking out.

Many of the former employees worked as medical assistants or in other administrative capacities. They say they were fired without a chance to explain, even in cases where Smollett’s name only appeared on their computer screens.

“It’s devastating. It’s humiliating,” one fired employee said.

She says she’s still reeling at her sudden termination. An administrative employee for less than five years, she didn’t want to be identified but wanted to explain.

“I had told them on several occasions that I did not enter the records and I didn’t understand how having those names on the screen is my entering the records,” she said.

She acknowledges she did a partial search for the actor’s name at the request of another employee. She says it appeared on screen along with other names, but she never clicked on his file.

Another ex employee is also angry.

“It hurts after being there for 20 years!” the former customer service specialist said.

She said she actually had authorization to enter Smollett’s chart to complete and release it. She was fired weeks later for going into his chart without proper authorization, which she doesn’t understand.

“Long as there is a release on file that gives me authorization to go into that patient’s chart to retrieve the records that they’re asking for and release them, and I had that authorization in hand, no question about it,” she said.

They are just two of a half dozen now-former Northwestern employees who have shared similar stories and concerns. They say they were fired despite exemplary employment records and lack of awareness about what constitutes a breach.

“I think because he’s famous, he’s a known celebrity, that’s why they made a big deal out of it,” she said.

Northwestern has refused to comment on the on this matter, citing personnel and HIPAA constraints. But industry healthcare officials say HIPAA rules are very strict, adding each hospital sets up its own specific policies regarding patient confidentiality and what constitutes a breach.

These employees believe Human Resources may have gone too far.

“If it was a violation, okay, coach me. Teach me. Do something besides take away my job,” the former employee said.

[BlackRob - shm - I work in a Bank and knew about HIPAA . How could she not know this??]

Some employees say they are appealing their terminations.

Sources tell CBS 2 that 60 or more employees may have lost their jobs over the Smollett matter, but Northwestern will not confirm that.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports on other hospital employees telling similar tales:

The Northwestern Memorial Hospital employee thought nothing of it when a coworker walked over to her desk and asked if "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett had been admitted under an alias.

Now, the employee — an administrator with an advanced degree — is out of a job, after she was told she'd inappropriately accessed Smollett's records, violating hospital rules.

Defendants hate trials even more -- especially if they did it. From you doing 6 months in county to 20 years in fed, government ain't got shit to lose. YOU DO. Our system is based on folks looking to avoid trial and take deals. Government gives you so many fucking charges that in most cases if you take it to trial you a fucking fool. That's unless their entire case is based on a witness/ci you know won't show or will change up.

Even fucking traffic tickets are based off pleas with the incentive on the defendant. You plea to the lesser ticket or they switch to non-moving(no points) and throw the rest out.

Jussie wants to be locked up with men if he takes this to trial.

But just imagine THIS trial?

Since he's gay and wouldn't mind being locked down with other men 24/7, I guess it would. But for any straight man, taking this case to trial would be batshit crazy.

Fuck em, HIPAA is not a joke. Those the same type of people that leak celebrity information to TMZ. I get fired from my company for doing the same thing and we’re only talking insurance. They let you know we have celebrities and don’t even think of spying on your family or even your own account.

For the life of me i have no earthly idea how in the hell Adam Schefter didn't get locked up or lose his job or get sued for leaking JPP medicals along with 2 other patients

Damn
Gonna cost them those jobs

Holy hell...

Did NOT see that coming.

I wonder what the ratings and salaries are for Empire

This could just be an excuse or maybe FOX thinks the reaction to the show from all sides just aint worth it.

Wow...

And interesting

The last few days his supporters have been trying to rally again so he would get no jail time and minimum backlash

Apparently that didn't work out.

What are all the politicians and LGBTQ folk gonna say NOW?

At the most juicy the omelette should get a fine and a nice extended probation. For all the felony charges they dropped on him but cops who shoot indiscriminately at black people got way less:hmm:. No one got hurt but himself. He wasted city resources so a fine/lien is in order to repay:yes:. However CPD is full of it:smh:. They have a less than 80% clearance rate when it comes to solving homicides. How come larger cities like NYC and LA their detectives have much higher clearance rateso_O??? This incident proved why Chicago stay in the news for the wrong reasons:smh:. As far a cities taking L's Chicago so far is the run away champion:curse::D

End rant.

'Empire' actor Jussie Smollett wants cameras in court so public can see evidence

Smollett's lawyer cites 'overkill' after actor indicted on 16 counts of lying to police

More: How did police catch 'Empire' actor Jussie Smollett? Lots and lots of cameras

Smollett did not comment following the hearing. He was accompanied to court Tuesday by two of his brothers, a sister-in-law and his assistant.

A grand jury indicted Smollett last week on 16 felony counts, accusing him of staging a racist and homophobic attack by two masked men near his Chicago apartment.

Police allege that Smollett, who is black and gay, staged the Jan. 29 attack because he was unhappy with his salary and wanted to bolster his profile.

He told police that two assailants beat him and threw a rope around his neck, while hurling racial and anti-gay slurs at him. Smollett also told police that one of the attackers also yelled, “This is MAGA country,” a reference to President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan.

Police arrested two men, brothers who knew Smollett and had worked with him on “Empire,” weeks after the incident and identified them as suspects. They later released the brothers, Abel and Ola Osundairo, without charge.

The brothers told police that Smollett plotted the assault, gave them money to purchase supplies for the ruse and paid them $3,500 for taking part in the alleged plot.

Smollett is free on $100,000 bond.

Empire boss says it's "too early" to address Jussie Smollett's future on the show after indictment

The actor maintains his innocence over Chicago criminal case.

Empire does not have many favourable options when it comes to Jussie Smollett's future on the show, but bosses are keeping even those grim options open for now.

Smollett was recently suspended from the final two episodes of the fifth season of the Fox drama when he was charged with filing a false police report. That suspension came even before he was separately indicted by a Grand Jury on felony disorderly conduct.

The actor firmly denies lying to police or staging an alleged hate crime that he says took place in January. As of now, his bosses say they're waiting to make any decisions about his job next season.

"It’s too early to think about what we would have to do if we didn’t have Jussie," showrunner Brett Mahoney told Entertainment Weekly.

"We have such a strong ensemble and we have so many stories to tell for all of these fascinating characters that it’s bigger than one character, but it’s too early to think about the show without him."

Mahoney described the last several weeks as an "emotional rollercoaster" as the cast and crew went from rallying around Smollett initially, to processing that he'd become the target of a criminal investigation.

"I do feel like there’s been a lot of rumours and people spreading things and different information that is out there, and much of that I don’t really see in my day-to-day," he said.

"I think the cast and crew is really just focused on working and everyone feels good about the work we’re doing, and we’re hoping that we can be judged on that work.

"Everyone is really focused on getting these episodes done, despite everything that is going on around us. Also, I don’t really see it as something that is dividing people, more like bringing people together, bringing the cast and crew together in terms of let’s get this done."
