Knowing James Gunn he is going to get some Chris Prat looking actor and turn the new DC movies into comedy type movies like Guardian of the galaxy and Thor, with a lot of classic rock playing in the background.

That kid did not have it. At all. I could have rolled out of my bed and did a better job than that kid did in any scene he was in. He wasn't believable, his line Deliverance was terrible, his eye acting was terrible his eye discipline was terrible his overall makeup and energy was terrible, and the story was terrible because it didn't involve anything worth caring about
You can create a character out of the blue and have a movie with no lead up if either the character makes you care about them or the story makes you care about the area or the characters. It happens all the time. But there was nothing and no one in Black Adam that was worth caring about outside of the main 3 (Rock, Hodge, Brosnan)

Now I only saw Black Adam once so I don't necessarily remember all of the details but nothing about her, her story or her son made me care and I'm the type who cries at movies.
The top three of the Rock, Aldis Hodge and Pierce Brosnan were a solid 3 to build a story around, but the story did not need the kid. I know why they did it because they wanted a sympathetic type character or a reason to make her more human, but they could have just made her an alpha female type which would have been more believable if she could pull it off which she didn't it's hard to tell whether she was incapable or whether the story just didn't lead her there
No doubt. Cats ain't out here building interdimensional space drives. They got decades worth of superhero source material to work with. Some shit going back damn near 100 fucking years. Ain't like they are creating new characters. They are using existing characters with more stories bugs in a forest.
It's all about funding and having access to the rights.
When it comes to this, it's NOT fucking up that is important. Because all this shit is a proven success that just needs to be translated to screen. Shit is like an open book test and D.C. keeps failing while Marvel went off the rails after looking like scholars from 2008-19.

As a result, the movie is likely to mean a loss for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery, given Black Adam’s generous production budget and massive marketing campaign. Black Adam featured not only a Superman cameo but one from Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller, inextricably linking Black Adam’s franchise future with other current DC properties that are likely to be phased out over the coming months and years. Unless Black Adam does unexpectedly well on HBO Max, its future is uncertain at best – especially as the streaming service is itself currently facing troubling cancelations and sudden removals at the moment.

But watching Black Adam for that specific scene now doesn’t have the same attraction – the tease of a Black Adam versus Superman confrontation is now unlikely to lead anywhere. And while Black Adam as a movie can certainly be enjoyed as a standalone adventure, and not every comic book movie needs to be connected to a larger universe, the critical reception for Black Adam’s narrative was middling at best, with the movie winning audiences over with big action spectacles instead that play better on the big screen in a theater than on a TV at home.

It’s a shame, as Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam, the world of Kahndaq, and the introduction of the Justice Society of America all had potential. Black Adam’s HBO Max release now feels underwhelming, a consolation prize marking the slow end of an era.
