Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

It must be something in the air. I was diagnosed with PC in May after having a PSA of 6.26. I had no symptoms. I sleep through the night and piss in the morning like I did when I was in my 20s. No ED issues to speak of. My PC was caught so early that my prostate is still a normal size. I have decided to go the radiation route. I'm in pretty good shape and will turn 60 later this year. Radiation has a success rate equal to surgery in most cases. It is possible to have PC reoccur after removal of the prostate in the area known as the prostate bed. Cancer can be a big mind fuck, especially in my case after losing a spouse to it nearly 7 years ago. I encourage everyone dealing with this to get some therapy or at least a Cancer support group. I am so glad to see this being discussed here. Good luck to everyone in the fight. We will beat this thing and return to fucking all night and pissing in the morning like nature intended.

Praying that all continues to go well. I just turned 49. I have my yearly next week. And I had prostate exams a few times. I’m going to inquire about the PSA test with my blood work

My PSA increased from the high 2's to 4.50 about a month ago.My doctor said to make an appointment with a urologist to have it checked out. It's scheduled for this Monday, but in the meantime I did a little online research and had a MRI and went on a diet to reduce my PSA (tomatoes, increased vitamin D and green tea). The MRI says that my chance of having an enlarged prostatic lesion is a 3 out of 5. I had another blood PSA test and it had gone down to 4.0. I see where most urologists advise doing a needle in the balls to see if it's cancer. I'm 81 and I'm not going to let them do that. I believe that every old man has some form of cancer. I'm going to continue to eat healthy and stay positive.

I do intend to stay up with your status though. Prayers going up.

Has your Dr mentioned losing your sex drive during radiation? This is one of the things I remember the most, of us being told his sex drive would be non-existent for months.

Diagnosed with prostate cancer April 2024 and having surgery on July 1.
The surgery will be a RALP (Robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy)
Complete removal of the prostate.
As black men, this can be a touchy subject.
Fortunately, we can hide behind our screen names to discuss.
A few of my family members know about it, but for the most part, I have been dealing with it with the wife and kids.
My PSA was a 12.4 (below 4 is normal)
If anyone, has questions, I will try to answer them the best I can.
Keep a brother in y'all thoughts!!

Stay strong and keep us updated.

I just got my stool sample kit in the mail from the VA for my annual colon test.

Been doing it since 2020 when I turned 50 and have had clear results so far.

Whoa I’m so sorry to hear this and I wish you the best.
I’ve never even knew what this PSA was but I always saw it in my labs. I just checked it now and it’s .48. Thank you for bringing this to light.

We talked about that, and it's not a certainty. As always, it depends on the individual. Some folks take a low dose of Cialis daily, along with regularly stimulating themselves with vibrators even if they can't get an erection. Others are using penis pumps if needed. The goal is maintaining regular blood flow in the region, even if the desire is gone. With all that said, I have an above-average drive, or so I have been told. I also will not require ADT. ADT can be a drive killer as the goal is to reduce Testosterone. I'm just getting Radiation. I should be ok if I can tolerate that and keep going to the gym. The prospect of beating cancer but being impotent is a major fear of mine. What's the point of living if you can't do the things you love?

Quick update since the July 1st surgery.
I am still in the hospital.
Doing better.
Abs are still sore along with some bloating.
I have had great support from family and friends along with a great staff of doctors and nurses working on me.
It's a tough journey, but I believe I'll make a full recovery.
Again thanks for everyone's support.
