Marvel's 15 Most Powerful Celestials, Ranked
We've all seen Star-Lord in action, but what do the other Celestials from across the Marvel universe have to offer?
There's a misconception with the Celestials in Marvel Comics: they're often thought to be the beings that created the universe, but this isn't really the case. Instead, these beings seized authority over various parts of the Marvel universe, acting as judges simply because they have the might to do so.

Every Celestial fills a particular role and carries it out for millions of years. They're humanoid beings with powers that are impossible to gauge, but we're going to try and rank their strength anyway. As each Celestial in the comics is basically the same, we’re including those characters who have been termed as such in separate universes, like the MCU. This also means Celestials who are 100-percent exactly the same haven’t been included, and only the powerful ones of similar anatomy have been chosen.
Updated on August 30th, 2020 by Josh Davison: The Celestials are an ancient and storied race in Marvel Comics. They've largely been referred to in passing, but sometimes they involve themselves in the lives of mortals, often to world-changing effect. They created the Eternals, have fought the Avengers, and interacted with the X-Men. They are beings with power like that of the gods, and their motives are often mysterious beyond reckoning. They are one of the most intriguing parts of the Marvel Universe, and this is why this list is going to be expanded with an additional five entries that will delve further into the lore of Marvel's Celestials.
15Gamiel The Manipulator
While almost all the Celestials could be considered around the same power level, there’s no question that Gamiel is the weakest out of these beings. He has the usual Celestial powers, but is the youngest of his species. As a result, he was assigned to watch over Earth.
Unlike the other Celestials, Gamiel doesn’t have the same towering stature. Instead, Gamiel’s size is roughly equivalent to the Hulk, which is very small for a Celestial. It might sound like he’s not that powerful, but you should recall that he’s a Celestial, and any other being will get destroyed by him. He got his title “the Manipulator” by causing the four-million-year war between the Skrulls and the Kree.
14Star-Lord
Star-Lord never got to unleash his full powers when they were activated in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but it was a testament to how powerful he was that he brought Ego to a stalemate (although he did have help).
RELATED:Sailor Moon: 5 Marvel Villains Sailor Mercury Could Defeat (& 5 She Couldn’t)
He showed the ability to manipulate energy out of nothing and could make it do whatever he wanted. Star-Lord also displayed powers of shapeshifting and power summoning, when he turned himself into an enormous Pac-Man. He most likely would’ve had the same powers as Ego, but we’ll never know. As his powers didn’t last too long, he can’t be placed higher up in this list.
13Apocalypse
This one is admittedly blurring the lines a little bit, but Apocalypse is a living agent of evolution. Plus, his armor is crafted from Celestial technology. He is one of the first mutants and one of the most powerful beings to have ever spawned from Earth. His mutant powers are vast, varied, and ever-growing. Since the advent of the Krakoan nation, he has taken an interest in crafting a mutant school of magic.
His Celestial credentials are somewhat thin, but a large base of his power comes from the Celestials, so let's file this one under "close enough" because any excuse is good enough to talk about En Sabah Nur.
12Phoenix Force
The Phoenix Force’s nature keeps changing from one story to another, but it is accepted as being associated with cosmic powers, which qualifies it as a Celestial in many iterations. As the Phoenix Force’s most powerful versions are far ahead of Celestials, we’ll consider the Jean Grey version here.
RELATED: Marvel's Asgardian Gods: The 5 Most Powerful (& The 5 Weakest)
This one’s power was such that she could wipe mutants and people alike from existence. Jean’s telepathy and telekinetic abilities combined with the Phoenix Force’s destructive powers, meaning that nothing (besides other Celestial beings) could harm her in the slightest. She did go up against a Celestial in this form, only to lose. But this version of the Phoenix Force is still powerful enough to earn its place among the other Celestials.
11The Progenitor
The Progenitor was an Alpha Celestial that arrived on the primal Earth billions of years ago. The Progenitor was infected by the cosmic Horde and dying when it came to our world.
However, the Progenitor was so powerful that his blood seeping into Earth forever altered the planet. It is the reason that metahumans, mutants, and other supernatural beings spawned and thrived on the world. It has been called "The Father of the Avengers."
10The Celestial Madonna
No, the other Celestial Madonna. This one isn't Mantis of the Avengers, this Celestial Madonna came to Earth at 114 AD. The Celestial Madonna had a powerful child in her womb, and she knew the birth would destroy her. However, the child would need sustenance. As such, the Celestial Madonna flew into the sun and gave birth to the Star Child.
Little is known as of yet about the Star Child beyond it being found by Leonardo da Vinci in Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver's S.H.I.E.L.D. maxiseries.
9The Celestial Destructor
The Celestial Destructor comes from a special variety of Celestial known as "Aspirants." They can be told apart from other Celestials due to red-and-black armor. The Celestial Destructor was sent by the First Firmament, the very first reality to ever exist, to destroy the eighth iteration of Eternity that was birthed from Secret Wars (2015).
However, for all that pomp and circumstance, the Celestial Destructor was rather easily dispatched when it arrived on Earth. Its arrival was predicted by the Inhuman Ulysses, so the magic-based heroes of Earth were able to craft a spell to send it back from whence it came.
8Zgreb
Who was the Celestial the Phoenix Force lost to? That would be Zgreb the Aspirant. This Celestial was also known as “The Fallen”, a deranged being searching for his lover and not caring about any kind of destruction he left in his wake.
Zgreb was powerful enough to fight alone against the Ancient Avengers (which included Odin), and it was only the combined efforts of these beings that cast him away. He returned millennia later, even more powerful, and again only lost because of the new Avengers having to pull out all the stops.
7Arishem The Judge
Arishem the Judge was the leader of the Four Hosts of Earth Celestials, and Arishem was responsible for nearly wiping out the Deviants with a flood known as "the Great Cataclysm." He also partook in a Celestial war with the Watcher race. Furthermore, he is among the Celestials who gets to decide which planets to destroy.
Arishem fought X-Factor during an event known as "Judgement War," which ended with Arishem losing a hand to Cyclops and Jean Grey. Unfortunately for Arishem, his final fate came when the Dark Celestials began their rampage and killed all other Celestials. Arishem's body fell to Earth and warned the Avengers of the coming arrival of the Dark Celestials.
6Godhead
This Celestial oversaw the planet Viscardi for twelve billion years, and only moved once the planet’s inhabitants pleaded with him to allow them to explore the outside universe. In return, Godhead punished the Viscardi race by creating a Black Vortex, whose power was such that only the Viscardi’s leader was left.
RELATED:10 Awesome Lizard Cosplay Every Spider-Man & Marvel Fan Needs To See
There was no closure or reason to any of this, as Godhead departed the planet silently once there was no more point for him to stay there. It’s frightening to think that this was his one notable act in all that time. We don’t know how he’d fare against other Celestials, though.
5Eson The Searcher
The comic version of this Celestial was powerful, but he was also killed, making him one of the few Celestials to be truly taken down. However, we’ll be judging the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of this character, since Marvel deemed him significant enough to be the only comic book Celestial to show up on film.
Along with having the powers of a Celestial, he was also unstoppable due to having possession of the Power Stone. The Collector showed the Guardians of the Galaxy a hologram where Eson struck the ground with his scepter, effortlessly obliterating a whole race of beings. It’s still worth mentioning that he died in the MCU as well, which means he wasn’t the strongest Celestial we’ve seen.
4Exitar The Executioner
He’s been given the title of Executioner due to his role of destroying worlds the other Celestials have deemed unworthy. Exitar isn’t even a single entity, it’s a line of Celestials who take up the mantle of Exitar should the previous one die.
Although an Exitar was killed by Sue Storm, the Executioner still ranks highly due to being functionally immortal (another Exitar arrives on the scene when the former one is eliminated). It appeared as if Thor’s hammer was the one thing that could kill an Exitar definitively, but this still doesn’t make him drop lower in rank. After all, it has been confirmed that he’s more powerful than Odin, Galactus, and the Beyonder.
3Tiamut
Tiamut has the richest history out of all other Celestials shown in the Marvel universe. This expands to so many stories that listing them all here would be pointless, but the easiest indication of his enormous powers is that Galactus --of all beings-- is afraid of him.
To put things in context, Galactus considers Thanos to be equivalent to Hulk's assessment of Loki: “Puny god.” A being that can strike fear in Galactus, then, is something that should never be messed with. Tiamut was also a being that Uatu the Watcher couldn’t see, which is supposed to be an impossibility.
2One Above All
This Celestial is the leader of every other member of his race. He doesn't tend to do much, as letting his imposing legacy do the talking tends to be ample. The One Above All has rarely been encountered, and on the occasions he is, he doesn’t respond with much other than show the person in question the answer they desire.
RELATED:Ms. Marvel: 5 Things That Have Us Excited For The Disney+ Series (& 5 Reasons We're Worried)
It’s accepted, though, that he can wipe out anyone he wants to if they were to engage him in a fight. He’s been seen teleporting characters as powerful as Thor away in a second’s notice, and the One Above All was used to rebirth all the Celestials when they had been killed.
1Ego The Living Planet
While Ego did lose his life to the Guardians of the Galaxy, he’s the one with most known feats out of all the Celestials. He also only lost because the Guardians outnumbered him and had to go for his weak spot, rather than beat him fair and square.
Ego had the power to assimilate full worlds into himself. He could have remade everything in the universe the way he wanted – with his planet being proof of what he was capable of. He seemed to be as old as time itself, and had visited the farthest reaches of space. It’s unlikely he would’ve even been affected by Thanos’ snap, considering the scale of his powers.
That armor didn't hold up to well. Who were the three Gods?I'd say One Above All, Arishem, Knull (not technically a Celestial but anybody who can decapitate a celestial in one blow...) Galactus (he eats them incubating) and Exitar. One Above All hasn't been bested by anyone that I know of. Arishem held 3 Gods at bay simultaneously and led to Odin creating the Destroyer Armor which still wasn't enough.

The Celestial called "The One Above All" is different from THE "One Above All". Look it up. This is where Marvel turns into DC with this bullshit.I'd say One Above All, Arishem, Knull (not technically a Celestial but anybody who can decapitate a celestial in one blow...) I'm going to have to get this graphic novel if it exists.
This movie brought up questions some viewers don't want to see like ethical ideals. Would you sacrifice 1 life to save 5 later? Stopping conflict at the cost of free will. Following your duty vs doing what you feel is right.I enjoyed it but understand why its polarizing
not your typical superhero/marvel story, no A-List heroes, not as fun & comedic as other marvel films and had some heavy themes (pre-destination, price of immortality, free-will, nature of man, etc)
I totally agree with you dude. Good movieJust got back from watching this...
I fucking loved this movie!
Just to get my self pat on the back out the way I nailed this:
Mid credit scene was unexpected who they brought out, but great!
End credit I knew what was coming but well done.
So they just should have made a 3 part movie then; I havent seen it yet but I will; just saying...I agree with him this should have been a series. I don't think you can deal with the Eternals, Celestials and the other cosmic entitiesin a 2 hour movie.
Just came back...
Well that was
Interesting
I give it an 8/10. The movie was slow in the beginning and very long for a origin film, so I can see why it got a low score from casuals. It's not a Marvel top tier classic like CATWS,A1, A3, A4, BP, IM1 and TGOTG.But, did you think it was a bad movie?

Audiences gave 'Eternals' the worst reviews of any Marvel movie, according to CinemaScore. Here’s how all 26 MCU films were graded.
"Eternals" received a B grade from CinemaScore, a company that surveys audiences on opening night. It's the worst CinemaScore grade for a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Here’s how “Eternals” compares to the rest of the MCU.
Yeah. It was very long. Shang Chi is the best origin film in the MCU so far, I have it a few percentage behind Ironman 1. It's behind because Ironman is the original and set off the MCU. But Shang Chi was a great movie, I would put it over Eternals.^
this is probably the most fair and balanced review I have read so far
