I've seen it before as have most of you, A Bronx Tale is a damn good movie. I want to say it's a story as old as time. A father mad that the neighborhood hoodlum has more influence over his son that he does which ultimately has the father scared for his son's life and Future

This was well done

This popped up in my tubi recommendations last month and I watched it last night.

The trailer sparked my interest, that’s why I watched it.

The film does not play out like you may expect. Without spoiling it, if you looking for a decent horror/thriller flick to watch with your girl, this film will do.

The ending becomes predictable mid-way.

Synopsis

A survivor of a worldwide epidemic must fight for her life when she encounters a mysterious creature in an apocalyptic wasteland.

Miller's Girl

Student Teacher Don'ts

PRAISE: Fourty five minutes into this movie about a creative writing assignment that yields complex results between a teacher and his talented student I saw what writer Jade Halley Bartlett was trying to say. The longing for life to have more meaning, for people to hear your voice and respect it. To find someone that believes in your writing, respects literature and you are more drawn to the person because of all of the aforementioned. But when it's a teacher and a student of course it's a big no no especially if it goes past the classroom and down Inappropriate paths. There's not really any bad performances in the movie. I actually felt the frustration of Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman). Jenna Ortega does well as Cairo Sweet definitely felt her longing for acceptance. As her friend Winnie Gideon Adlon steals every scene she's in. As Jonathan's wife Beatrice, Dagmara Dominczyk is very good even though I could see what she was truly thinking about him from a mile away. Comedian Bashir Sulahuddin as Jonathan’s best friend was good even though in the end I felt his character was a bit of a hypocrite.

PROBLEMS: There are far to many dull moments in this movie.Aside from one great taboo moment much of what is supposed to be erotic or sexy in this movie was unintentionally funny to me. Much has been said about a certain sex scene between Freeman and Ortega but I actually thought it was bland and not much to it. I guess people didn't even want the thought of something happening between the characters to enter their minds so they overhyped their shock over it. A lot of things are to on the nose as the movie attempts to be Lolita but is more like a lighter version of 1992's Poison Ivy.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 4½

I stumbled upon this Sci-Fi thriller while looking for something else on tubi. I watched it yesterday morning on tubi.

The trailer/description sparked my curiosity.

Before going further, if you seen the films “Inception” and “TENET” and you think the stories made no sense. Don’t waste your time with this one.

It’s a very slow burn film, so If you suffer from Movie ADHD, this film also is not for you.

The premise is similar to the “The Matrix” franchise but goes a different route.

The first 45 minutes will have you scratching your head, but it will be explained soon after that point. So bear with it and pay attention to what happens prior to the explanation.

The film ends for potential sequels.

Synopsis

When Daniel wakes up from a dream, he contemplates the possibility that life could be different from what he once thought.

This is a horror/comedy I watched last night on tubi. I mainly watched it cuz Krysten Ritter co-stars and I have been going thru her film catalog every now and then.

I had looked it up and this was originally a webisode series on the Crackle app. They eventually put all the 1st season episodes together to make one movie for its DVD release. It only had on season of 22 episodes that ran for about 3 to 7 minutes each.

It’s mainly a comedy with tongue in cheek humor, nothing to have you LOL.

For the Thirsty, Krysten’s character has her bouncing around like a stereotypical, bubbly “Valley Girl” White chick. She isn’t doing the moody “Jessica Jones” character. Her outfits are modest but cute.

As pointed out, this originally was a series, they left it off for a 2nd season but there isn’t one.

Synopsis

A young man documents the events around his flatmate apparently becoming one of the undead when he wakes up with no heartbeat.

Thanks for the review.

Speaking of Ritter’s catalogue, did you ever happen to see this series from just over 10 years ago?

I caught bits and pieces of it and found it funny / amusing.

Might go and look for old episodes of it online in the future.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I watched this last night on Netflix.

This is the classic film that put Jack Nicholson on the map and earned him first Academy Award for Best Actor. His performance in this flick shows him at the top his game.

The film mainly deals with how mental illness treatment was conducted during the time period this film was made. It touched on the political and societal views on the issues also.

Jack’s most powerful scene is when they take him in for electro shock therapy. It plays out like an execution.

One surprising thing about this film are the co-stars. It’s basically an All-Star cast of recognizable actors from famous and well known 1970s thru 1990s TV/Movie productions. Everyone’s performance of displaying mental illness in various forms along with the characters interacting with each other is highly well done.

Netflix plans on removing the film after February 29, 2024

Synopsis

When Randle Patrick McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) gets transferred for evaluation from a prison farm to a mental institution, he assumes it will be a less restrictive environment. But the martinet Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and the inflexible Ratched soon affects all the ward's patients.

Space Is the Place
1974

6.5/10

I watched this one earlier today while sitting at a dock on MAX.

It’s Black History Month so I gotta watch some films with our folks in it.

This is a AfroFuturist, Sci-Fi musical that does a different twist on providing a message on issues dealing with the Black community. This film came out in 1974 and everything they point out still applies today.

The film is mainly set in Oakland, CA. If you are from there, you should recognize some places.

The main character was actually a real person who toured giving lectures with his orchestra thru-out California in the 60s/70s. His music is played thruout the film in the background. His music is similar to what George Clinton was doing back in the 70s.

For the Thirsty, there is full frontal nudity of WW/BW with full hairy bush.

For the Militants, there is IR between BM/WW, White Women are portrayed in stereotypical sexual roles.

The film is full of good footage/imagery of Blacks during this time period. Lots of Ancient Egyptian imagery is used too.

The film is put together poorly unfortunately being it is low budget. Bad editing, acting and continuity with how it’s shown.

If you enjoy watching weird, way out in left field content, you will enjoy it.

Synopsis

Sun Ra the space age prophet lands his spaceship in Oakland, having been presumed lost in space for a few years.

I had a really cool 11th grade English teacher. This movie and Do the Right Thing were 2 movies we examined in class. Watched them and discussed the dialogue / scripts.

He also had a segment near the end of the semester wherein he invited us to bring in the lyric sheets (and music videos on VHS) for our fave songs so we could do a deeper dive on them.

Good memories from that class.

Breaking down scenes, verses, stuff that’s left unsaid, etc.

I was scrolling thru tubi last month and this popped up.

As soon as I saw it starred Joe Namath, I knew this film would be pure crap. I just watched it tonight for the comedy.

The opening scene is pure comedy and will have you cracking up. After that the film is basically garbage with lousy acting, poor editing and everything else that can make a movie bad.

Ann Margaret co-stars. She was definitely underused being she was still in her prime when this film was made. Legendary cult actor Sid Haig co-stars and he was underused also in the film.

There is musical number by this weird Ass White dude trying to do James Brown which is funny.

If you watch, just watch the opening scene with Joe Namath in the supermarket.

tubi has a unremastered grainy copy.

Synopsis

A motorcycle rebel (Joe Namath) rescues a woman (Ann-Margret) from his gang and fights an outlaw guru (William Smith) for supremacy.

I took an extended lunch break today and watched this flick. It’s nice having a job that gives you the privilege to Fuck Off and get paid while doing it. HaHa!!!

It’s an anthology horror flick on two stories done by Edgar Allan Poe.

The first story stars legendary cult actress Adrienne Barbeau. She was still in her prime when this flick was made. She definitely was underused in the 1980s and 90s before she crashed into the wall. Her story is about her being a gold digger.

The second story stars legendary actor Harvey Keitel as a crime scene photographer cursed by a Black cat.

Both stories played out well, no big surprises and they have predictable endings.

tubi has a good clean copy.

Synopsis

Dario Argento and George Romero adapt a pair of Edgar Allan Poe stories in this two-part tribute to the horror writer.

I watched this one this evening on MAX.

It’s a very slow burn Sci-Fi drama. There really isn’t anything for VFX/SFX or technology being shown in the film. Definitely not a film for those who suffer from Movie ADHD.

The film is mainly a character drama.

The first hour gets underway with the ship departing and main characters being introduced. About 50 minutes in the story begins doing a number of time jumps going forward and focuses on the psychological reaction of people dealing with the situation until the end of the movie.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, there is Lesbian sex scene action. There is also full frontal male nudity.

For the Pervs, there is a sex orgy depicted with men and women. Lots of nudity.

The film does a decent job showing the dangers of space travel along with time/distance of traveling thru space. It also clearly shows race/class with the passengers on the ship.

The film is from Sweden. MAX has it with sub-titles.

It has a interesting ending.

Synopsis

A spacecraft carries settlers to Mars after there is an apocalypse on Earth. When it strays off course, the consumption-obsessed passengers are prompted to consider their place in the universe.

I watched this film tonight on the road on tubi.

This is basically a character drama with a supernatural element to it.

It also falls into that “Way Out There In Left Field” category cuz this flick is weird and wild from start to finish.

There is just 2 characters thru-out the film, each one of them has serious mental issues that plays out thru the film. William Dafoe and Robert Patterson were cast perfectly for their roles.

If “Inception” and “TENET” left you scratching your head, this film will give you a migraine. There is a lot imagery thru-out that plays into the story that will get you thinking and gives insight to the main story.

The film looks great visually. Having it in B/W enhances the story.

Synopsis

Two lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
