Former WWE Star Giant Gonzalez Passes Away
Former WWE performer Jorge González (a/k/a Giant González) passed away Wednesday in San Martin, Argentina, reports Argentinian news outlet Impulso Baires. He was 44 years old.

Sources from González' hometown, El Colorado, confirm that he was taken to San Martin after "suffering a decompensation."

González had been suffering from poor health for years as he was confined to a wheelchair and used a dialysis machine to treat kidney failure. It was announced last year that González would return to the United States in May 2010 for an appearance at the "Legends of the Ring: wrestling convention in Monroe, New Jersey. Ultimately, he was forced to cancel the appearance due to ongoing health problems.

Originally a basketball player, González was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the third round of the 1988 NBA Draft. When his NBA career didn't pan out, Hawks owner Ted Turner offered González a job as a professional wrestler with another of his ventures, World Championship Wrestling. After a year of training, González was introduced to fans as "El Gigante" on May 19, 1990 at the WCW pay-per-view, Capital Combat. He enjoyed a lengthy run as a fan favorite before parting ways with the organization in 1992.

González' jumped ship to the World Wrestling Federation the very same year and debuted as "Giant González" at the 1993 Royal Rumble, where he eliminated The Undertaker from the Rumble match despite not being an official participant. The move laid the foundation for a rivalry that lasted the length of Gonzalez' WWE career as he parted ways with the organization shortly after being put to rest at the hands of "The Deadman" at the 1993 SummerSlam.

González wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling before retiring in 1995 due to ongoing health problems. His last match took place on February 8, 1995 against The Great Muta.

González is the fourth former WWE talent to pass away within the past seven weeks, following Lance Cade, Luna Vachon and Mike Shaw (a/k/a Bastion Booger).

Jack Evans does a double somersault with his SSP.

Jack's really gotten better since I first started seeing him in ROH. I'm a little surprised he hasn't gone back there or been picked up by TNA to fill out the X-Division, at least for a short run.

Thanks, chriss. I was going to post this the other day but never got around to it.
Gonzales was a horrible wrestler but he drew money with Ric Flair and his attack on Undertaker at the Royal Rumble was pretty shocking and memorable.

John Cena Heel Turn?

Word is that the John Cena vs. Randy Orton tables match on RAW several weeks ago where Orton turned the Attitude Adjustment into an RKO through the table was supposed to end differently. The plan was for both guys to go through the table at the same time but for Orton to come up first and hit the RKO, giving him the table win over Cena. The idea would have been that the referee was confused but after going to a replay, Orton would have been announced the winner.

-- While it hasn't been a week yet since Randy Orton won the WWE Title, there is already some people in the company who are second-guessing the decision to put the belt back on him. Some feel that they pushed Orton hard for weeks and then gave him the belt and nobody seemed to care about it once he won. Some people were pushing to put the belt back on John Cena while others feel that this is a sign that Cena needs to turn heel because his face run is over.

Even with the drop in merchandise sells, a Cena turn is whats best for the company imo.

Randy Orton Not Happy w/ Babyface Storyline

Randy Orton is not high on his current babyface character. The reigning WWE Champion feels he's a natural heel and would prefer to play that role.

There has only been a few guys who work great as a face and equally as a heel. ( Jericho, HBK, Taker, Rock, Angle,) Others are decent playing both roles but their sucess is more dependent on how over they are and how good their mic skills are. ( Flair, Macho, HHH, Hogan )

Vince McMahon 'Mortified' Over Nexus Sales

World Wrestling Entertainment's symbolic Nexus T-shirt has been a huge flop in terms of sales.

According to a company source, Vince McMahon was 'mortified' when he was shown the latest merchandising report on Nexus shirts.

You really can't expect for the Nexus faction to be a popular group with fans. Nobody in that group really stands out or has any personality. Everyone in the group is just vanilla in terms of character. I could see the season two guys getting over rather than the current guys. Percy Watson could be a good filler for someone and a mouth piece for the group. Barrett I can see being a world champ down the line but he and the rest of the group are just not cool enough to sell t-shirts. You're either Nexus or against us.:hmm:

Shelton Benjamin Comments On WWE Firing

Shelton Benjamin finally posted about his WWE release (http://twitter.com/Sheltyb803), here is what he had to say…

"WWE never made me any promises just gave me an opportunity to make money. And I made a lot of money, so (they) fulfilled their end. I am not bitter or scourned and I've got too much pride, passion, and confidence in myself to cry like a baby because i was released. Do I think I should have been a World Champion, HELL YES!, was I underutilized, without a doubt, do I have issue with WWE, NO! I NEED TO BE AWAY FROM WWE so I can grow are a performer. There are many things about that company that SUCK, but i got no time to be crying about it. I am enjoying a good life now and if history serves chances are you haven't seen the last on me in WWE even if I go elsewhere along the way."

His poor mic skill was the only thing holding him back.

Cena is a natural face but he's hamstrung by the poor writing. "Rocky Balboa" Cena would be more popular than "Superman"Cena.
Orton's natural heel and he's just not that exciting (to me) as "The Viper". That writhing on the mat before he attempts the RKO is just dull and overdone. Plus when he does that, he never hits it.
Have to disagree on with the assessment of Flair. Ric Flair was just as over as a face as a heel. The fact that people kind of liked him is what made him such a good heel in the first place. He practically invented the "cool heel" (with some love to Superstar Graham and Michael Hayes). Flair had them rioting and charging the ring as a face (to save him from Nikita Koloff) and as a heel (to save Jimmy Garvin from him).

When I say Vince McMahon's "genius" is highly overrated, stories like this back me up. How did he think people would like a heel group made up of guys that get beat far more often than they win. Cena just beat the whole group last week, except Wade Barrett. They can't talk, they can't wrestle (Barrett, Gabriel excepted) and they got run off by Mark Henry and Evan Bourne.
Drop Slater, bring in Husky Harris and they can, maybe, save this angle (I would have liked Riley too but that's not going to happen. He's good where he is.)

I just shit on Vinny Mac but it was his call for Michael Cole to plug Mick Foley's new book on Raw last night. That's cool.

His poor mic skill was the only thing holding him back.

He would have been even more successful in the WWF. A good long run as IC champ with a couple good, hard feuds would have given him and fans time to grow into him. He still probably would never have been World champ but he would have gotten some high profile shots (like Valentine, Muraco, HonkyTonk Man, Rude, etc).

I missed this. Damn. For a guy who is supposed to be in line for a title shot (whenever) that's not a good sign (they do remember that, don't they?).

Microsoft Teaming With Spike On Fire Pro Wrestling Game For Xbox 360

Microsoft Teaming With Spike On Fire Pro Wrestling Game For Xbox 360

BREAKING news out of the Tokyo Game Show, where Microsoft is holding its press conference. Spike, the developer of the Fire Pro Wrestling series, is teaming with Microsoft to produce a new game in the series for the Xbox 360. Details are scarce right now, but the game will let you use your own Avatars! Yes! Halo Workman is gonna break necks!

Look for more news on this game soon!

Fire Pro Wrestling Is All Avatars, No Beefy Men

500x_500x_fpwscreenshot2.jpg
Fire Pro Wrestling is returning, but this time it's coming to Xbox Live Arcade and it's way cuter. But does that mean the buff Fire Pro-Wrestling of days gone by have been passed over in favor of Xbox 360 Avatars?
"Our plan is that it is just Avatars," Microsoft Game Studios Vice President Phil Spencer tells Kotaku. "I guess there is the possibility for us to do celebrity Avatars if we wanted to."
The Fire Pro Wrestling series began under developer Human Entertainment in the late 1980s. Tokyo-based developer Spike picked up the baton and took the reigns of the series starting in 2000.
Fire Pro Wrestling features a timing-based grappling mechanic. While the beefy fighters appear to have changed for something, well, cuter, the deep gameplay looks like it is going to stay.
"This specifically was an idea Spike had around Avatar wrestling," Spencer continues. "But Fire Pro obviously has a mechanic and a depth, that people appreciate. And that's why we wanted to stay with the brand. So people could understand what our aspiration was. So that we could stay true to that franchise."
Spencer was quick to point out that Fire Pro Wrestling was a temporary title. "We don't know the final name, just to be completely honest."

WRESTLING NEWS
UNDERTAKER
WrestleZone has exclusively learned that there are several pitches for the Undertaker at Wrestlemania next year, including matches against Sheamus or even Kane.

WWE writers have been charged with coming up with as many scenarios for Undertaker as possible for the Wrestlemania show in Atlanta, and so far the two Vince McMahon has reportedly liked the most have been matches against Sheamus or current Smackdown World Champion Kane.

The decision to bring back Paul Bearer has a lot of people talking backstage, as The Undertaker has always said that when he does his "last run" as a full time wrestler, he wants to have that closure with the Paul Bearer character involved.

However, we've asked several insiders, and no one has heard any pitch for Wrestlemania to be Undertaker's farewell. The feud with Kane, however, is scheduled to continue.

If both Vince McMahon and Undertaker decide the Wrestlemania match will be with Kane, it is likely the two will be put in separate feuds to sidetrack their series, and then brought back together during Royal Rumble season to springboard the storyline into Wrestlemania.

DASHING CODY
PWTorch.com is reporting that the reason why Cody Rhodes hasn't received a major WWE push is because Vince McMahon is not confident in the superstars' abilities. "Cody Rhodes is capable of a breakout, but Vince McMahon just can't commit to him," said a WWE source. "He thinks he overacts."

Return of BOBBY LASHLEY?
WrestleZone has learned that while there has been no official contact between the parties, WWE is expected to discuss a possible return with Strikeforce fighter Bobby Lashley.
Lashley, who just returned to pro wrestling over the weekend in Japan, was the victim of dehydration and lost in his recent Strikeforce outing, putting a huge dent in Strikeforce's plans to match Lashley against fellow former WWE headliner Dave "Batista" Bautista.

Now Lashley finds himself without any leverage in Strikeforce, and as far away from a headline fight against either Fedor Emelianenko or Strikeforce Champion Alistair Overeem as he has ever been.

Lashley, who many dubbed the next Brock Lesnar in MMA, has seen his mixed martial arts career fizzle out since his crushing defeat, and is said to be entertaining the idea of going back to WWE or TNA, with WWE being his first choice due to the higher profile and bigger money paid by the organization.

Not saying that he is as good a fighter, but anyone else find it interesting how when Lesnar lost to Mir there wasn't this, "Oh my God, his MMA career is a fluke. It's over for him!" talk like there is with Lashley? Again, I'm not saying his is as good as Lesnar necessarily.

I see it. The fact that he came in with such fanfare hurts him and his development as a fighter.
Bobby Lashley is like any other young, strong guy that wants to fight except he already has a ton of money and can pick the best trainers available.

Not believing any talk of Taker-Kane at Mania. It's been done twice and they seem to be throwing everything at this one now, including bringing back Paul Bearer. With the possibility of this being the last Mania for Taker, I have a hard time seeing Vince doing a rehash of a overdone angle/feud. I like the idea of Sheamus and the Undertaker with Sheamus going over and Taker beating him in the rematch.

Yep, Sheamus. I think he leapfrogged guys that had put in a lot of work and deserved to be elevated (MVP for one) but since he's been on or near the top, he's been good, in the ring and on the mic.

I've said it before but "The Streak" should be broken. Taker's been great but wrestlers are in the business of putting people over. It's not like there's someone else who's going to break the record (Edge had a shot but but he lost to Taker). A win over Undertaker at Mania would put a heel (it could be a face) on a new level and an instant main eventer for years.
While his legendary status is unquestioned, he's worked no harder than quite a few A list guys, many of whom put him over at Mania to help build him up and he should do that for someone else.

Why would they schedule NXT to not pick a winner before the show ended on Syfy? There is no NXT on Syfy next week and we still don't have a winner and they didn't even have a match this week. WTF?

the streak is a sacred thing to me. it is the only sacred thing wwe has right now. U can't mess with that. What u can do is have him on a losing streak.. Matter of fact thats when they should have brought back Bearer. Undertaker getting the shit kicked out of him without his powers. Even people u wouldnt think of beating him take him down. Leading up to Wrestlemania, whoever is kicking the shit out of him worst gets the match. Have UT cut a promo saying while his powers have dwindled wrestlemania will 4ever be his yard, and he doesn't lose there. Then at WM he has an epic match, something drastic happens like a ladder fall through a table or some shit. It finally looks like its over, then the bell tolls, not being able to take what he has become, Shawn Michaels wheels the casket out(just figured it should be HHH in the match, with his standing in the company everyone thinks this will end the streak, plus with michaels coming out looks like him and his boy will bury the Undertaker) when the casket opens its PB urn in hand Lightning striking all that high level bs they are known for. power restored, taker beats HHH in his final match, bang boom over.

the new NXT shit is stupid. a few broads who actually seem to be able to wrestle and the have a wheel the midget around challenge. these chicks are better suited 4 TNA
