The power of intermittent fasting

Im about to try it. Look forward to sharing results. Im at 250 now, want to get to 235-225 by end of Jan and maintain.

You can do it!

The first two weeks are horrible as your body gets use to eating -pretty much - one meal a day.

The key is that eating one meal a day creates a caloric deficit because unless you diet is complete shit- like a sleeve of cookie dough shit- it is hard to reach/max out you caloric intake in one sitting.

Add working out in the mix and you'll drop lbs steadily.

*two cents*

3rd week im down 14lbs back to having a more solid v taper.

Just left doctor pretty happy. Backstory is High BP runs in my family and on 3 meds for the last 3 years. Not over weight, bf% is 8-10%, it is just hereditary. Doctor was really impressed and BP is lower.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I work my upper body - arms, shoulders, chest. I don't lift heavy right now, I just do reps for exercise and muscle memory. I only move up in weight when the current weight I'm lifting becomes easier. Eventually I will lift more and harder for muscle mass. I am not trying to injure myself.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays I work my legs - (squats(4 variations), calves, hip inducters, knee lifts). I Don't lift heavy here either, I am only squating around 400 lbs max. Same concept here on avoiding over doing it and injuring myself. As I get stronger I add a little more weight. I feel like a wimp only squating 400 lbs. when some chicks at the gym are squating over 700-800 lbs :eek2:LOL:D.

On Sundays which is very flexible if I go to the gym but I do cardio only. Bike, elliptical, power walk on treadmill, jump rope, and punching the bag for five 3 minute intervals. But like I said that is if I go on Sundays. I would love to jog but my knees are somewhat weak and I'm having a hard time finding jogging shoes that lessen the shock impact on the ball of my feet.

Mon-Sat I always do a combined 5 miles of some type of cardio and work on my core(abs and back) before I lift either my upper body or legs depending on what day it is.

I am just enjoying the process. I am in no hurry to get to my ideal body. I do it for health and I know eventually the body I want will develop as long as I stay consistent and gradually get stronger. It be days I don't want to go to the gym but I force myself to go and always feel better that I did go. However like I said Sundays are iffy for me.
If all take this approach when starting a weight loss journey everyone would be successful in changing lives but we want it right now and that's just not possible

Nope I did not read 16 pages, so here's my questions:

If I do this, during my fasting periods the only thing I can drink is water, black coffee, and green tea right? And the tea can I put lemon it in, or will it break the fast?

Anything that can spike insulin you avoid. I just do Ginger water and coffee. Not 100% on the lemon and I am careful with teas unless it is 100% black tea with nothing added

Thank you, I'm going to try this and I don't it will be difficult for me because of how I eat now. I just have to really meal plan so I can stay at 1200 calories.
I had started working out, but took a hard fall before the holidays and fractured by ankle, so I can't do anything now but watch what I eat.

Go to my fitness pal dot com. I am currently doing 16/8. I eat my caloric deficit between the hours of 12 and 8pm. I was running 3 miles a day. Now I only do 1 mile and lift weights 3 times a week. I drink about 1 gallon of water a day. I don't do coffee but I drink green tea throughout the day. During the holiday, I didn't fast at all and I gained zero pounds. I ate, gumbo, etoufee, smoked and fried turkey. I kept my sweet tooth in check by only eating one generous slice of red velvet cake. My portions was way smaller than I normally eat. I was full as fuck so I didn't overeat.

I use my fitness pal already and log everything. I'm going to start tomorrow. I just hate I can't work out for a bit (ok not really lol)

I started Keto and Intermittent Fasting on July 17th. As of November 17th, I was down 46lbs. No exercise, all diet. This shit works, fam. By my 6 month mark, I should be at my goal weight. No more pre-diabetes and to reward my progress, I have one cheat meal on my anniversary dates.

Keto was difficult for me, because it was too difficult for me to keep up with what was high in fat and then I was messing up on the carbs like crazy.
And I was limited on what fruits I could eat and I LOVE fruit.

Appreciate it, bruh. I started out at 250lbs. My eating window is between 11am-7pm. I start out with eggs, cheese, onions and turkey sausage every day. Eat a few sunflower seeds after that during the day. For dinner, it is usually turkey burgers or keto pizza. The crust is made from mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and eggs. Throw some low sugar pizza sauce and turkey sausage or beef on there and man, you can not tell the difference between that and regular pizza.

I stay under 2,000 calories (usually way under). If I am out with the kids and getting fast food, I get a double quarter pounder with no bun and leaf lettuce as a bun substitute. very keto friendly from a carb and sugar standpoint. I don't have any cravings most days because the sunflower seeds suppress my appetite.

The key to the fasting and keto is to never eat outside your window and to stay under 20 carbs a day with no sugar. Eat lots of veggies(this is where your carbs should be coming from), and high fat foods. I cook with olive oil and coconut oil due to the fat content. On this diet, fat is your friend and much needed to trick your body off of the carbs. I drink water or San Pelligrino with a stevia or sucralose water enhancer (taste just like soda). The first couple of weeks starting out is rough. Your body is detoxing all of the sugar and glucose out of your body. Your body is craving hard for carbs as an energy source. But if you stick with it, your body will adjust and use fat for energy. And the weight pours off afterwards.

You can do it man! We as a people have to get healthier. Diabetes is no joke and killing us at very young ages.

Keto is definitely a lifestyle change. I have a sweet tooth and I love fries and chips. Not having grape juice or any fruit now sucks. I still steal a few fries from my little ones from time to time. I just had to make the choice that my health was more important than enjoying anything I wanted to eat. The struggle is real though, I definitely feel you on that.

I still eat a lot of fruit. I just cut waaaay back on sweets and alcohol. I even eat bread. The most important thing is when you eat and maintaining a caloric deficit.

Good shit. It is truly amazing. My only regret is I wish I would have done it as soon as I was done playing ball. Once you start it becomes second nature. Keep up the good work.

Exercise does not have to stop even with your ankle. You can still do upper body workouts that does not require legs. Also if you will not be in a cast you can do pool exercise. Good luck on your journey though. Just wish I could kiss your ankle to make it better, LOL!

I just eat clean and keep it simple. Baked chicken, baked fish, grilled ribeyes, sauteed shrimp/scallops, crab legs. Salads, collard greens, broccoli, spinach. Scrambled eggs and wright bacon for breakfast when I actually eat breakfast. Normally just weekends . I cook all of this myself . I will post pics if u like.

12 almonds. Lol. Seriously almonds and limited cashews.

Green tea and water. That is literally what I pretty much eat .

My window is 1pm to 9pm. I usually break my fast with 1/4 cup of almonds and a 1/4 cup of cashews between 1 and 3. I then eat my sole meal sometime between 6-9. In bed around 11.

I start my day at 6. Run 3-5 miles M-F fasted in the AM. Might lift on Th and Fr.

:flyingkiss: I'm glad you said that because I thought about that. Today is day 3, yesterday was a challenge on the fasting because I was out and forgot to eat. So my quick find was to eat a banana before 6pm. And all night I wanted to eat because I was starving, but I didn't.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Ok, cool. I'm about the same.

My palate is super plain, I've just been eating baked chicken, spinach, broccoli, sweet potatoes and lima beans, and that combo lets me hit most of my macros.

But now I'm switching to Keto, and I see I'm going to have to get rid of the beans and potatoes, and find replacements for those macros.

I had stopped eating almonds, but I'll get back on those. And I gotta figure out where I can throw some bacon and cheese. Maybe some ground turkey and turkey sausage.

appreciate. I was actually at 262 when I started - now down 10 lbs to 252.6. Was a challenge to start but second nature now. Have to eat cleaner though. Also started a bootcamp so I look forward to accelerating the progress. 10 down another 25-30 to go!

Anyone tried a colon cleanse before? any recommendations?

I am a few weeks in (week 6 or 7) and about to to get out of the 23olbs range with 4lbs left to go. I still drink and I watch what I eat during the week. I can not see going off of this way of living and being.
My next thing to go for will be a 10k, I used to do them every weekend or every other. Time to step things up again.

My first week of 20/4 IF with Keto went pretty good.

I'm fasting 7 days instead of 5, no cheat meals. Cheating is a bit more complicated on keto because cheating can knock you out of ketosis, then you have to keto for like 2 days to get back into ketosis. So if I cheated on weekends, I'd only end up in ketosis for like 3 days a week. I want to get full use of it, so I'll only cheat when absolutely necessary.

I hate Keto breath. I gotta keep mouthwash in the whip now.

Found out that I love eggs and salmon.

I'm eating one meal of brown eggs, sausage, bacon, spinach and broccoli a day. Pecans w/ Himalayan pink salt and sugar free Jello for snacks. Switched up to salmon and cauliflower rice on the weekend.

Also made some keto brownies this weekend, they were trash. 100% cacao chocolate and cocoa powder just can't be sweetened IMO. Overpaid for some little Keto cookies on Amazon.

Tried Erythritol. It makes my unsweetened vanilla almond milk taste decent, and I made some decent tea with it, so I might keep that.

I had plateaued on my original IF meal plan so I had to try something different. I didn't realize how many carbs I was eating until I had to start cutting shit out. I've reduced my carb intake to less than 10g of net carbs a day.
